Victim of Anti-Semitic Occupy Wall Street Attack Responds: ‘Poison’

Jewish Man Attacked at Occupy Wall Street RespondsEarlier this month, the Blaze began reporting on some disturbing developments down at Occupy Wall Street. While potentially anecdotal, we have examined a number of verbal attacks that were waged against Jews and Israel.

One of the most bizarre incidents was when a young man named “Danny Cline” (also known as “lotion man”) verbally attacked a Jewish man, calling him a “bum” and attacking him for his ethnicity.

Last week, video blogger “Joey Boots” caught up with the victim of this horrid attack — a man named “Ari.” In a taped, on-the-street interview, Joey Boots and Ari discuss the incident as well as the Occupy Wall Street movement.

First and foremost, Ari admits that Wall Street isn’t perfect, but he seems to believe that there are more positive ways to handle dissatisfaction than by occupying the financial district. He says:

“Not everything in Wall Street is good. Not everything in the government is good. But if you want to change something, I think you gotta go and vote for the right people to be there. Change the system and do the right thing.

But being here and doing all this noise when you have 10 people doing 10 different things…I dont‘ think it’s going to bring…a change, especially with the poison of anti-Semitism…”

While Ari said he doesn’t think that the movement as a whole is anti-Semitic, he claims to have seen a number of examples of anti-Jewish sentiment during his time down at Wall Street.

Ari seems particularly disturbed that people would go after Jews, claiming that they “have all the money.“ He explains that such a statement is ”ridiculous.”

One of the most intriguing pieces of information that comes from the discussion, though, is his current occupation. Ari tells Joey Boots that he’s a cab (limousine) driver. Then, he claims that he once had a limousine business, but that he lost it. He says:

“I did [have] a company and I made the wrong moves and I lost it. I sold it and I sold at the wrong time. And I can‘t expect to go to Wall Street and say ’come and bail me out.’”

See, despite his business failure, Ari takes full responsibility and doesn’t expect to be bailed out. This paints a starkly different picture than the one created when Cline attacked him for having money (while we don‘t know Ari’s personal finances, he at least claims to have faced some business hurdles).

    Danny cline was a male massuse in 2007 advertising on the internet to male clientel his lotion massage was listed along with his hourly rates. So he wasn’t a plumber in a union making $7 his hourly rates of hundreds as a massuse show him to be a slimeball.

      There is no union in this country with workers making $7/hr, so that argument is idiotic anyway. Union jobs are some of the best paying jobs around with the best benefits. People really need to stop using union jobs as an example of struggling people, it couldn’t be further from the truth and only serves to make them look like morons.

      One need not hear what this young spouter of ignorance is saying to know he is an air-head. Look at his expression and body language. It is typical liberal mannerisms. Watch them as they respond to any comment on a news program that does not fall in line with the chosen talking points of their handlers. Even before the discussion begins, they will have a supercilious smirk on their faces and a disdainful stance. I know them before they open their mouths. I tried to check my typing so that critical commenters can follow the argument without being distracted by a typo.

      I’m sorry to see kids like this living in America. They know so little of life. He got off of drugs but it certainly affected his ability to think and reason. He went to college – that explains a lot. These kids haven’t lived long enough to actually know what it takes in life to be a good, informed individual. He has a web site, lol, using technology from corporations. Glad he had the money to buy a computer. Put them on a farm in the middle of nowhere, no heat, no electricity, no running water. They have to grow food, find and cut wood, haul water from a well, and then see if they appreciate all the services that are provided to them through banks, stores, and grocery shops.       Look at money as a surrogate for hunting and gathering. Instead of spending the entire day combing the grass lands for grubs and roots or game animals we work in air conditioned offices and factories, making products or compiling information or helping other consumers. Every week we take one or two days off from that, something hunter gathers never could do, and we ‘relax’. Sometimes we take weeks off. Then when we are too old or we have stored away enough money we quit and we spend the rest of our days doing those things we couldn‘t or didn’t have time to do. Is it really that bad? I mean really? With the most trivial amount of planning one can insure that thier retirement is fairly secure, with the most trivial of effort one can enjoy a reasonalby good standard of living. Its really not that hard. And it not about money. Its about life.

Never once have they addressed the claims that Jews control Wall Street and the Fed Reserve with a “Yes” or “Hell No”. We know Greenspan, Geithner, Bernanke, Summers, and Orszag are Jewish. I’m so tired of hearing “anti-semitic”. Most normal people see every group as equal; but if a group acts up,they must be held accountable. I don’t understand how people can constantly attack blacks and Muslims, and Mexicans, for valid reasons, but we can’t do that with our Jewish co-citizens in the USA?

    On Sunday, October 16th, I talked to Danny Cline. He was standing outside Zuccoti Park talking to the Chabad students who had come with the “Mobile Sukkah” to help Jews celebrate Sukkot. He told me is half-Jewish, the child of a Christian mother and a Jewish father who was raised without a formal religion but who has chosen to identify as Jewish. He also confessed that he is ADHD. Danny actually defended me against a rather sweet young Hasid. We were talking and Danny talked to the young man who was offering people the chance to shake the Lulav and say the prayers. He offered me the Lulav, but I said I was not Jewish, true, since I am a Catholic, but I said my husband was Jewish, also true. The young man rolled his eyes, because to him, a Jew marrying outside the faith is wrong and allowing a non-Jew to take part in the rituals of a holiday is also wrong. Danny told him that I was a nice lady and he should be nice to me. The young man then went off trying to recall all seven Noahide Laws, which would not allow me to participate. Now, as I said, the Hasidic boy was sweet and well intentioned, but so was Danny Cline. Cline doesn’t like rules and orthodoxy. The Hasidic community lives by rules and orthodoxy.

    I was not insulted by the Hasidic boy, all of about 20, I’d say, nor was I offended by Mr. Cline who knows that this website has made him into some kind of anti-Semitic monster. He told me that it was very hard to be rejected by his father’s people and

      Danny Cline’s behavior is what is being condemned. I have never met the boy and I am SURE he is a nice boy. His actions , and those of many others in NYC, have the best of intentions.       @Stoic, Speak for yourself. My moral compass is just fine. And I in no way want to live in an American Theocracy run by Fundamentalist Protestants. And the only religious law that I worry about it being placed under Conservative Protestants. I believe in Social and Economic Justice. We haven’t lost our moral compass, we’ve spent the three decades rewriting American tax laws and creating conditions that keep most of us down. I am not asking for free things, but I would like to see the rich taxed at a more progressive rate. Right now, under current law, most of the top 2% are paying taxes at a lower rate than you or I. They pay at the 15% Capital Gains rate, or the corporate rate, and they’ve convinced a bunch of people like you that immigration, Gay marriage, Sharia, and English only are more important than raising their taxes to what they were under Ronald Reagan. Yep, they’d leap up a whole 3-4% to 39% on “income” and “Capital Gains” would be taxed at the income rate, just as it was under Reagan. Wall Street has convinced a whole bunch of people that pensions are wrong, but 401Ks are great, 401Ks are just another source of gambling income for investors. They gamble and lose and your life savings and retirement fund are wiped out! Oops! OWS is trying to draw your attention to a very real redistribution of wealth. Wall Street took the money out of your pocket and put in theirs and you didn’t even notice.

      Hasidim don’t care if a non-Jew wants to shake a lulav or etrog (a branch, and a fruit, for the harvest). There are no laws forbidding you from partaking. The kid was just disinterested in you because his mandate was to find secular Jews and bring them some Jewish culture on their way to and from work, merely asking for a moment of their time and offering them this ritual. They will do that all day long. For you to turn that into a negative thing is sick and twisted. They don’t card you at the door of a synagogue, you fraud. You’re the one who wants to partake in Jewish rituals while proclaiming “I’m not Jewish”. You don‘t see the conflict there just like you don’t see Danny Cline’s antisemitism. How crazy.

      @Wordsworth, You seem to have anger and judgement problems. I’m sorry. You may not be a Christian, but as a devout Catholic, I am. I’ll say a prayer for you. No, I don’t wish to convert to Judaism. I spent years going to Synagogue with my husband so I could raise our children as Jews. I was always in small communities where people did notice, and I was told I was not to do some things because of it. Most folks were nice about it, and I understand such rules. You say I am a fraud, but most people remark about my sincerity and honesty.

      Danny Cline has been demonized on this website by people like you, who have made all sorts of statements about him without ever meeting him or hearing his side of the story. He was also made the poster child for the whole Occupy Wall Street movement to make it appear anti-Semitic, when it isn’t. But, that gets in the way of you dumping your hatred on to me.

      I was in Zuccotti Park when this blog printed the thread and when I went to the Press table, they were a bit shocked but said that they were above replying to such garbage. I went to the end of the park to see how they dealth with the “Google Jewish Millionaires” guy. They sang at him and held up signs to show their disagreement. No name calling, no pushing, no shoving. But he also appeared as proof that OWS is anti-Semitic. Things are not always as they seem, videos lie, especially here. You should know that.

      @Wordsworth, In case you didn’t notice, Danny Cline is Jewish and Ari called him a bum, first. Danny was reacting angrily to him. You don’t know what happened between them either before or after the video was shot, and given the Conservative penchant for editing video footage, you don‘t know everything you’re seeing, just what the poster wanted you to see. Danny has some issues, he probably needs medication; I took this into account in dealing with him. He isn’t a leader of OWS, he isn’t even in the inner circle, he’s a fringe element. Yet, here, he has been made proof positve that the OWS movement is anti-Semitic. You know if you say bad things about him, by your logic, aren’t you being anti-Semitic? And the only denigration that has gone on here, is what you’ve done to me. I was respectful of the young Hasidic boy, I was respectful of his traditions. I listened very carefully to what he was saying and sought a fuller explanation of the Noahide Laws, which was a new concept for me. I treated both men fairly, and ended the conversation on a neutral if not pleasant note. On the other hand, you have been nothing but nasty and judgemental towards me, assuming thoughts, motivations, and actions to me that were not there. What does this tell me about TeaCons? What do your descriptions of me tell me about you? You can think what ever you like about me, but please know that I will remember and apply those descriptions to my image of YOU. Peace be with you.
