ISSAQUAH, Wash. – A gunman was shot dead by police Saturday after he opened fire near Issaquah High School, sending passers-by fleeing in terror and throwing a junior football game into chaos, officials and witnesses said.
Sgt. John Urquhart of the King County Sheriff’s Office said officers had no choice but to shoot the gunman after he refused to put down his weapons and fired them at police.
Later, officers searched the gunman’s abandoned vehicle on Front Street. There was no immediate word on what they had found, but traffic was being routed away from the vehicle during the search.
No one else was injured in the incident, which terrified residents of the normally quiet neighborhood and sent many of them running for cover.
Urquhart said it’s a miracle that no one else was hit by the gunfire.
“There were lots of people up there, lots of kids – this could have been a lot worse,” he said.
The man pointed his weapons “menacingly” at pedestrians, but did not fire, as he walked about ½ mile to Clark Elementary School, Urquhart said.
Witnesses reportedly saw him trying to break into an unoccupied parked car in the school parking lot, where he fired his first shot, according to Urquhart. The gunman also fired more shots during or after an unsuccessful attempt to enter the cab of a parked backhoe.
Urquhart did not indicate whether the gunman was shooting at anyone.
When Issaquah police confronted him on a service road at the school, he reportedly dropped to the ground and began shooting.
Some shots were aimed at officers, but others appeared to be random, Urquhart said.
Four Issaquah officers returned fire, striking the man more than once. He died at the scene.

Well, sure….you never need a gun to defend yourself or your house until you do……..

The police did exactly what they should have done, KILLED him. Would you ask for him to be shot in the leg if you knew he was coming straight for YOUR family? I don’t think so what if he was chasing your daughter, you would be the 1st to sue the cops because they tried to end it peacefully.

Posted on September 25, 2011 at 9:55pmSounds like a suicide by cop. Think about it, the man was shooting and never shot anyone. How many rounds did he expend and what from? If he had any kind of a rifle, whether or not it had a scope or open sights, and whether it was a bolt action or semi-auto with a 100 round drum, he could’ve easily shot someone out to 300 yards without having any kind of training. It he had a pistol, he could have easily shot someone with in 100 feet. It seems almost obvious to me that he dust wanted to die and was too afraid to shoot himself.

Posted on September 25, 2011 at 4:31pmYou are harder to hit when your laying prone on the ground. Think about it, how wide is your body and how tall are you standing up… That’s why the military uses grenades and other explosive devices when fighting wars, they get you whether you stand or lay down… What makes this so shocking is that listening to the video the person talks about a “Range” he was working at. Were there no heroes with scoped weapons that could have stopped him??? This shows the fear law abiding gun owners have and how just the fear of being accused of a crime is… If we don‘t stand up for the citizens rights to own fire arms to prevent a bad Government take over like the founding fathers anticipated then we don’t deserve to live free for a generation at least…

I don’t know the full story yet, but I’m sure the media is already trying to concoct a story about the evil Tea Party.
But as is the case 99% of the time, it will be a disgruntled liberal.
Just like the case of the man that shot the National Guard members, the kid who was denied access to the military, Jared Loughner who shot the demoncrat in Arizona, the man who went into the Discovery Channel and shot people, the Muslims who are on a rampage all over America, and the list goes on and on.
Damn.. the media is always let down. Where are those violent Tea Partiers?

Posted on September 25, 2011 at 1:37pmI won’t judge anyone but I will say and I mean this devoid of personal opinion: What would each of us do when we are being fired on or looking down the face of a gun and we are also armed? Each person must decide this.
Personally speaking, I am a civilian so if even if I had a gun on my side, I would clear the area and myself and call the cops.
But if I were a police officer, I would try to take the shot on a leg or arm if the crowd were still threatened and there was no way to move out the civilians. IF the man was running fast at the crowd, well, I would aim elsewhere. If I was behind him and he responded to me, I would give him a chance to disarm and lay down.
What situation was it?

Posted on September 25, 2011 at 1:47pmThat’s not always the option as well as not how you are trained. I’m sure LEO have the same training, aim for the biggest target. Shooting someone in the leg is a hopeful, wishy washy thing you see in hollywood movies and not practical in the real world. The legs are slender appendages that move with ease. The torso, regardless of what a person is doing, is a more consistent target and a bigger target. With possibility of innocent people behind the target, you don’t want to risk missing. You aim for the biggest target that will have a higher chance of bringing the guy down. When your life, and other’s life, is on the line, you don’t take the time to wound the gunman. A gun is not an “aim to wound” if you intend on pulling that trigger, you do so only if you have intent to hit and kill your target.

Posted on September 26, 2011 at 7:10amTretka; What you have stated is fine for the movies but in real life it is a pipe dream. First off if you have never been in that type of situation you don’t know how you are going to react, second if you ever do get into that type situation thing move so fast you won’t exactly know what and how it happened until you calm down and think about it. You also have to remember that the bad guy doesn’t care where or who he shoots but you still have to try to keep in mind that there are innocent people around. There is no officer (that I know) that wants to take a life and live with that for the rest of his life but they have to make a choice and that is to shoot the suspect or have innocent people get shot by him. To understand what these men and women go through you try riding with them and get to know them.
