Video Captures Hiker’s Dramatic Rescue from 500-Foot Cliff

Video Captures Hikers Dramatic Rescue from 500 Foot Cliff

One hiker is thanking her lucky stars, and the brave rescue workers who saved her life, after she spent more than two grueling hours clinging to the side of vertical cliff some 500 feet above a canyon.

The 24-year-old woman reportedly became trapped while hiking with a friend in Topanga State Park in Malibu, California.

Her hiking partner was somehow able to climb back up to the top of the cliff but the woman remained where she was, paralyzed by fear.

ABC News adds:

The woman’s hiking partner turned yellow string into a makeshift safety line for her to hold onto, while trying to reach authorities for help on his cell phone. Rescuers from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department finally arrived nearly two hours later, just as nightfall began to descend.

After convincing the terrified hiker she was safe to let go, sheriff officials lifted her to safety in their helicopter, just around 6:30 p.m.

Footage of the dramatic rescue was caught-on-tape by a rescue helmet-cam worn by one of the rescuers, and released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The identities of the two hikers have not been released.

Fox News provides the chilling footage:

I reciently had to escort a construction worker down from the top of a structure in a power plant. The man was absolutely petrified. Must have been the ride up in a cage riding on rails that freaked him out.
Fear of heights is an awful thing. Once it takes over your head there is no chance of regaining sanity.

How the $&%@ did she get down in that nook to begin with? No way she slipped and slid down there. She would have gone completely off the cliff, it’s a straight drop and there is no way she could have popped into the nook while falling and with nothing to grab.

Gotta love some of these liberal buttheads, “people would worry about having to pay for their rescues, and might die trying to save themselves!”

    1. I take responsibility for me, anytime I get in a jam, I look to God first, Me second, family third….government help is not on my radar, but I have ridden the ambulance once or twice and…IT AIN’T FREE!!!

    2. It is not nor was it ever the governments responsibility or perogative to take away my freedom to fail. I learn from my mistakes and reserve the right to make them, and make up for them.

They get up on a mountain and get stuck there, that’s mine and your problems all of a sudden? Idiots. It’s usually leftists who are the ones that get stuck too, just like the idiot hikers who were held in Iran for 3 years. Leftists there protesting the war although no one will print that and they end up getting it in the backside from the very people they’re there protecting.

Exactly, to reiterate what I just said: to hold the threat of having to pay for ones own rescue may result in greater number of deaths due to people trying to get themselves out of a bad situation if they are afraid they couldn’t afford the rescue. We can’t expect the world to stop being adventurous out of fear of not being rescued if they get themselves into a bad situation. Tea baggers need more common sense. The adventurous spirit laid the foundation for the US. Danger is inherit in adventure….

Probably that girl and her boyfriend are Muslim loving progressives. They thought they could climb down a vertical face of crumbling rock, that‘s because most progressives don’t even exist in the physical world. They live in a make believe world of leeching off of others, of slothful milk tit sucking, of crying and temper tantrums. They have never done one days of physical work thus they do not even comprehend gravity.

I was a member of high angle rescue back in the 90′s. We made them pay for their rescue. Most of us were volunteers with a few paid just enough for their expenses. They made it illegal for anyone to explore the cliffs including the high angle rescue volunteers. We disburst as a group and everyone live happily ever after because no one would ever go back out on the cliffs. If you believe that you must also believe that making guns illegal will keep people from getting shot. The fact is when we disburst people still needed to be rescued and we were no longer in practice or organized to help after people died. A new group 100 miles away took over. They were real pro’s for sure. The problem is that they do not know the land and they are to far away. Most of the time if you were in trouble on the cliffs you could yell and we could hear you and rescue you in minutes. Five years ago I checked the numbers and more people die out there now that it is illegal.
