Video Catches L.A. Cop Punching Unruly Female Bus Passenger in the Face

LA Deputy punches special needs women (NBC)

We’ve all been warned about talking back to police officers, but one Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy was caught on camera silencing an unruly bus passenger by a means some will find shocking — especially considering reports now point to the the unruly passenger having special needs

Jermaine Green explained to NBC Southern California the violent exchange that took place on a Metro Bus Monday night:

‘The lady got on the bus with a stroller full of pillows, she was very polite, said hello to everyone and sat down,’Green said.

At the next stop, two LA County sheriff’s deputies, one male and one female, boarded the bus and called the passenger by name.

‘They said get off the bus. She then started cursing at (the female deputy). You could tell she had special needs. After that they grab her, she curses him out, calls him a big shot, next thing you know he gives her a big shot,’ Green said.”

Green captured video of the shocking confrontation:

Green claims that the deputies noticed him filming, and tried to intimidate him when he refused to hand over his cell phone.

“He comes to me and says you can be under arrest if you don’t give me that video,” Green told NBC. A recently-returned veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Green refused to comply.

LA Weekly reports that Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore has responded to the now-viral video:

“We got a 911 call of a violent woman on a bus, [saying] she almost attacked an elderly man. Lakewood deputies responded. And we know this woman by the way — she has 4 previous arrests and convictions for assault on a police officer. … She’s a large woman with some mental challenges, and she became aggressive toward our deputies.”

Whitmore told LA Weekly that both Internal Affairs and the Office of Independent review are monitoring a use-of-force investigation “as we speak.”

2 healthy policemen against 1 mentally handicapped person. Absolutely no cause to punch the person in the face. It is the reason the policeman wanted the video. Sick, sick. People don’t become a policeman unless they desire power. A license to abuse.

I can’t punch my wife in the face if she spits at me. I can’t punch my own children in the face if they spit at me. I would get arrested because a MAN is supposed to control his strength and power. But a policeman can punch anyone they want in the face if they get spit at (and there wasn’t even spitting on the video)? And a woman no less.
Nah, homey don’t play that. No person being paid with the taxpayer dollars is going to live by a different set of rules that they believe they are entitled to.
If you can’t handle these situations, don’t become a cop. This guy probably punches a person a day or more.

There was absolutely no reason to punch this woman. A couple of the posts referred to her spitting, but I didn’t see it if it occurred. But it doesn’t matter. It still wouldn’t justify a sucker punch.

Incidentally, this little fat cop must be a powder puff puncher, because he reared back and let go with a straight punch and it barely fazed the lady. Anybody but a creampuff would have decked her at least, no matter how fat she is.

Just as bad as the abuse against the woman is the Gestapo demands to stop filming as they attempt to take the camera.

What goes around, comes around. We’re not into lawlessness yet, as a result of the plummeting economy, but we’re getting close. And when it gets here there will be attacks and ambushes against the police that will make them understand that they are not the supreme authority they think they are.

I can’t release a dog on a suspect that will chase him down and bite him repeatedly, I can’t do many of the things we ask our police officers to do. We give our police officers the power to do the things we want done. Now I don’t condone hitting a woman in the face but lets please remember that we need the police, and they (the majority) do their job well.

I do not usually judge events that I have not personally experienced. I have noted that what everyone is calling a punch in the face is in fact not true. I reviewed the video, especially the 1/10th of a second the contact is seen. I noted that in the initial contact with the police, they were very reserved. The passanger was being held by the arms and directed to follow a police command. After the passanger became agitated ( but professionally restrained ) her level of violence was beginning to escalate. To be spit on in the face by anyone in today’s environment can actually become a death sentence in the event a virus is transmitted into an officers eyes, etc. After close review I observe that the woman was hit/pushed to the side of her face by the officers elbow-you can see that he isn’t even making a fist. As soon as the womans spitting was acknowledged it became important to move her head to the side. It was, and then without any rage the officers passively controlled her and did not attempt to assault her in any way. That is why two additional officers were dispached. With all the muscle, the officers did not need to strike the woman in any way. I noticed no one else helped!
In our society, I am bothered that when a person is given a direct command by a law enforcement officer it is deemed as ” BRUITALITY! “. If the woman followed a simple directive, this would nort be a story. The officers needed to protect themselves, and all other citizens on the bus

Hey you idiots that support her, she was resisting arrest. Put yourself in those deputies shoes. You get a call that some “large” woman is out of control. You ask her to calm down and she starts freaking out spitting in your face and threatening you. You calmly ask her to be cool and sit down and she tries to take off on you. We as a society grant certain rights to our police to “control” the crazies. GOOD JOB OFFICER YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOCKED HER OUT SO SHE WOULD SHUT UP!!! Just because your female doesn’t grant you the right to resist arrest. Females today are more and more out of line because they think they get special treatment because your a female. Guess what, ever since the 60′s and true “equal rights” woman are considered equals in every way under the law. So next time you think about doing something stupid because your a female, think again. Sweet Justice :) PS their is no evidence she was mentally handicapped,… none.

Actually, a lot of us become police officers because we enjoy protecting the defenseless, and are willing to go places and do things most people don’t have the courage to do. People like you have no idea what its like to be a cop, and having a desire for power was not one of my reasons for becoming one. To be a cop today means that every action you take is evaluated – we live under a microscope, and must live up to a higher standard, while a good percentage of people like you are willing to denounce and condemn all of us for any perceived transgression. I don’t know what exactly happened in this situation, but I would like the officer to have the same opportunity you would want – let him tell his side of the story. It is your unreasoning hatred of those who risk their lives to protect your health and property that I find sickening.

For years, every LAPD car had a bumper sticker that read, “There’s No Excuse For Domestic Violence.” Of course, all women batterers were excused and even falsely accused men were often framed and held accountable, thanks to feminist training through taxpayer funded STOP grants. When the feminist ideologues who train L.A’s police and Sheriffs see this, I suspect this guys career will be over, but then again, L.A.‘s police and Sheriff’s have historically had a pretty long leash to do as they liked, and be exempt from the laws they expect others to obey.

We don’t NEED the police. If people starting looking out for themselves and their neighbors, like we used to, there would not be need for armies of police thugs to keep the peace. A sheriff, elected by the people and maybe a deputy or two. If the Sheriff becomes abusive, he gets tossed on his rear. There are way to many police with the mindset of predators, we are the prey. They wait in ambush on our highways and in the cities. When they get bored they drive around and hassle people until they provoke someone to arrest, but they do not take care of the crime. I will never call the police for anything.

They cant use a stun gun or pepper spray because of the other passengers. God knows what would set this women truly off so they have to get her off that bus fast so not a lot of time for more back up! I don‘t condone him punching her but little options are left and he wasn’t going to pull his side arm. Maybe he should have. Clearly, there’s more than enough information here for you to make an informed opinion. Great job.

The woman could have been violent with someone before she got on the bus. The police knew who they were after when they showed up. It seems unlikely they hunted this woman down just for something to do.

Did the cop have to get violent with her? That’s a tough call. If she spit in his face, that’s assault. I’d deck someone for spitting on me.

Should the cop have come after the film? No, that’s tyrrany and facism.

So, to sum up, many of the commenters are douchey for assuming too much and assigning blame in a situation none of us fully understand. The cops could have been at the right place at the right time. The cop who punched the woman might have been less violent, but might also have been justified. That same cop was wrong later for sure.

Sometimes, the same person can be perfectly right and turn right around and be perfectly wrong. It’s called being human.

I’m not for that, but they were in a tight space and she is a big girl. If they tased her she would of banged her head pretty good on those seats. Bottom line is, when your asked by an officer to stop what your doing and you don’t comply then they take harsh measures.

It’s also strange how they think they can take peoples personal property [ in this case cell phone]. Maybe she was threatening the cop with a pillow. I guess he should have shot her instead. We all know it would be “justified” in the end. The cops showed up to a family-initiated schizo call in a town I used to live in. I bet they wished they would not have called after those cops shot the guy to death over a two-inch pen knife. It was ruled “justified.” Really? I say BS. And if you are some cop reading this I don’t want to hear your justification. That either makes you one of them or an accessory. The officer is human force vs force, it’s a basic survival reaction. Liberals always scream and attack then whine and complain if the lose the fight. Grow up and be real. You reap what you sew.

The police were nice in my opinion. When she attacks the wrong stranger she’ll get far worse than she got. Unless she only picks on smaller and weaker people.

Dead on. I am a former prosecutor and now a defense attorney. Prosecutors want their officers to be above reproach. When you put that you uniform on you loose your ability to be just another person. You must hold to a higher standard. Many people would have been arrested for hitting someone for spitting on them. We are not a lawless society and police must use restraint. No, psychosis, I am not a Huff Post Liberal, but I know officer demand respect and want to be seen as above the fray. They better act the part then. From what I saw, he should be fired for disrespecting the uniform and lacking self control. If he wants to punch people for spitting on him, take the uniform off and go become a bouncer.

Blaze readers are to often ready to back figures of authority despite clear evidence of abuse of power. Especially if that abuse s aimed at a group or class that the Blaze reader disagrees with or despises (minorities, the poor, union members, OWS, etc.).

@ Encinom There are people who do blindly support law enforcement in their belief that the overwhelming majority of officers live up to high standards while doing their job. But then that’s largely due to “the other side” screaming police brutality in the face of each and every law enforcement situation that turns violent, without distinction. Personally, I believe the officer portrayed in this video was wrong and should face the consequences of his actions, whatever they may be.

That said, I doubt anybody who comments on this site “despises” minorities or the poor… That’s just plain ignorance (I hope) on your part. Also, it’s difficult to despise union members who can’t help but be useful idiots; Some are volitionally blinded thugs who will do and tout anything as long as they’re on the payroll; Others believe in a false sense of security and have a misplaced gratitude towards the union bosses who are actually duping and taking advantage of their members. As for OWS… they’ve revealed themselves as parasites and lawless animals whose reputations are so far down the drain (as a result of their own actions) that it would be arrogant to believe any comment on this site could bring them lower.

A badge doesn’t make you anything special.

Most cops are such crybabies, this is how they handle conflict. And they think they are aways right. So when I hear of a another cop getting shot. I smile. Cause any man who thinks he should have authority over another man is just asking to get shot. Badges mean nothing.

There are good cops and bad cops. But the good cops that don’t turn in and stop the bad cops are just as guilty. They cover up the corruption in their precincts until something happens and it gets out to the public. I am willing to bet a majority of experienced police officers have witnessed a fellow officer violate the law and have done nothing about it. They protect their own and it is them against everybody else.

Surprised you know that. Maybe you’re at the beginning of your training. I won‘t go into any details of my training but I’ve taught and trained with some of the best fighters in the world. We don’t fight in cages either. I’ve experienced the underground fight scene, where some friends from brazil were taking their students. If you can’t see that was a strike to control not to knockout you know absolutely nothing about fighting or controlling an opponent.

The police are very limited in what they are allowed to be trained. I applaud the officers restraint, that is my opinion you are entitled to yours.

I have been training a long, long time. If you are into underground fights you are a lawbreaker and a thug. The cops should be busting you in the head. If any of your fighters punch the way this cop did and stayed in the piss poor position he was in, I don’t think they will make you much money in the ring, legit or underground. If she had a knife both those cops would be dead. Combat is combat, it is not a game.

I have handled opponents much larger than this mental woman in legal situations. Opponents who were much more agitated and already in fight mode. I was able to remove and restrain them without punching them in the face, and without exposing myself to their blades. These police are clearly poorly trained and not in the physical condition to be restraining anybody. And you are right, you have your opinion and I have mine. My training has kept me breathing, and has kept others alive as well. In real combat, not sports legal or the not-so legal as you claim.

Our view are obviously different. You sound like a thug to me. Rather than training officers preaching rebellion. Your method sounds cowardly to me. I don‘t know what your fighting system is I won’t ask and not will I speak of my system. I will just say the system I train in is designed to fight multiple people in combat situations. I don’t fight for sport. I know the military is teaching a watered down version of what I’ve learned since elementary school to special forces personnel.

Maybe you should volunteer and teach some cadets as opposed to whining about what an officer occasionally does.
