‘Climate Denial Crock’: Video Compiles Extreme Weather Events to Show Environment Under Global Warming

Some consider the recent heat wave, wildfires and wild derecho storm evidence of the extreme weather events that will be common place in the warming environment projected by climate scientists.

Peter Sinclair, an environmental advocate who maintains the YouTube series “Climate Denial Crock of the Week,“ released a new video entitled ”Welcome to the Rest of Our Lives.” Think Progress points out this title is a play on a quote by Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson.

The video compiles news clips on the Dallas hail storm, the derecho event, the heat wave, the Colorado wildfires, and experts calling what we see out the window “climate change in action.”

Last week, The Blaze reported that scientists were calling the extreme weather events indicative of global warming as well. Still, it is acknowledged that linking weather events and global climate change isn’t necessarily a best practice as weather is variable whereas climate change would represents a trend.

A recent study though has done just that — linked global warming to extreme weather events seen in present day. Although, scientists can’t blame any single weather event on global warming, they can assess how climate change has altered the odds of such events happening, Tom Peterson of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration told reporters in a briefing. He’s an editor of a report that includes the analyses published by the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society.

In analysis of the Texas drought last year, researchers at Oregon State University and in England noted that the state suffered through record heat last year. It happened during a La Nina weather pattern, the flip side of El Nino. Caused by the cooling of the central Pacific Ocean, La Nina generally cools global temperatures but would be expected to make the southern United States warmer and drier than usual. But beyond that, the scientists wondered, would global warming affect the chances of such an event happening?

To find out, they ran a lot of computer simulations of Texas climate during La Nina years. They compared the outcome of three such years in the 1960s with that of 2008, which was used as a stand-in for 2011 because they were unable to simulate last year. The idea, they said, was to check the likelihood of such a heat wave both before and after there was a lot of man-made climate change, which is primarily from burning fossil fuels like coal and oil.

Their conclusion: Global warming has made such a Texas heat wave about 20 times more likely to happen during a La Nina year.

Kevin Trenberth, of the National Center for Atmospheric Research’s climate analysis section, said that he found the Britain study to be reasonable, given what he called a flawed climate model. As for the Texas result, he said that given how the study was done, the calculated increase in likelihood “could well be an underestimate.”

Last year was the coolest since 2008 in terms of global average temperature, which was about 57.9 degrees Fahrenheit (14.4 degrees Celsius.). But it still remained among the 15 warmest years since records began in the late 1800s, the agency said. It was also above average for the period 1980-2010.

      We always hear about extreme hot weather, but we never hear about how north North America, northern Europe and Russia had a devastatingly cold winter in Jan and Feb of 2012. Over 600 people died this last winter in Europe and Russia as chronicled by this video:

      Didn’t these same groups argue against using the extreme blizzards of 2009,2010 as an argument against global warming? Now they want to use extreme weather to support global warming.

      From 1958 to 1960 when I was 9 YRS old(1958) I chopped cotten for $.40 an HR in 100+ temps. One year, I think it was 1959 we had over 100+ for 3 weeks and one week we hit 110 to 113 all week and it was on the news. I lived in the northern part of Texas near Sherman. About 1962 while raking hay it hit 115 one day and I saw it on the 6 o’clock news on one of our 2 channels. We just got used to those temps with no AC and just a couple of fans.

      Well they are climate scientists discussing the climate (experts discussing their field) and you are…? What? What are you? Who are you to weigh in on the topic of climate change? Are you even a scientist at all?

      If you’re house is on fire you can plug ears, cover your eyes, and insist it’s not; crying, “I don‘t believe in ’fires’”. You can ignore your neighbors telling you. You can denounce the expertise of the fire department trying to save you. But at the end of the day you’re going to burn.

      I don’t know about Scrudge, but I can tell you that yes, I am a scientist with a PhD in chemical engineering. Chemical composition is my life, and the effects of changes in composition is extremely important to know accurately. When a trace gas increases very slightly, the effect on the heat capacity of the overall mixture is so slight to not be detectable. Furthermore, any change that does occur is doomed to be masked in entirety by the actual dominating factors on global climate. What are these factors?

      Easy: the sun. WHO KNEW?! Yes, the sun, the source of heat for our planet, is the dominant source of climate. Secondary to the sun is….wait for it….THE UNIVERSE! Cosmic rays from supernovae across the galaxies of the universe enter our atmosphere, and these very high-energy particle bombard supersaturated water molecules, knocking them out of their pseudo-equilibirum (due to lack of high-energy nucleation sites) and instating cloud formation. The sun’s solar wind intensity determines the number of cosmic rays that reach the earth. The cloud coverage (and subsequently solar intensity) is the best and only correlation to global temperatures. CO2 is a very, very poor correlation, suggesting it is a byproduct of climate rather than a cause.

      Climatology is science, but attributing a poor correlation as causality – simply because it’s the popular thing to do – is not scientific. In fact, it’s more like the behavior of a wicked religion.

    I am sure glad and happy The Creator God is in charge of this world and not the media. The weather man is in movie stage, they are on top of the list of news of the day not just a “filler.” Can you imagine the movies that will probably come out of hollywood? Fewer remakes of lethargic imagination, hollywood has a gold mine with the heat wave movies. I can’t wait, even tho I don’t find but one or two movies today that are worth my time.

    The “global warming” promoters grasp any weather event, either hot, cold, or stormy, and blow it up out of all proportion in order to scare the world‘s population so badly that they will support the UN’s climate control solution.

    This solution is to implement a carbon tax, free of any restraint by the western countries which currently pay almost all of their bills, directly apon the world’s population . From there they intend to implement a world government based on socialist principles.

    This is not a conspiracy theory. They have stated this strategy explicitly and publically.

    They suffered a major setback with the publication of those emails which demonstrated the jaw-dropping duplicity of the lead scientists, but they have not given up. Nor will they.

    At least not until, in the improbable event that western nations find some backbone, the UN is defunded.

    I’d say the Dust-Bowl of the early part in the 20th Century was ‘Extreme’ also. Was the Dust Bowl part of Climate Change? It seems to me the climate changes slightly every 100 years anyways and there isn’t anything people can do about it, and the problem is that there is probably way too many billions of people in the world to adjust without a lot of pain. Now on the other hand, if the world had always been a place of liberty for all, then there wouldn’t be so many billions of people in the world thus the issue would not be.

    Once more the weather nuts are out there screaming he sky is falling without any actual data to support their claims. I say this because, they have assumed that certain numbers would be appropriate when they use one years numbers to fill in of data they don’t have. What a crock! You can make numbers say anything when you assume they would add up to this and don’t actually add them up.Plus the author iof the article is absolutely right when he said its not a good idea to link weather with the over all trend of globe warming because we don’t know a great about weather. Predicting weather is still mostly guessing so anything that you claim to have studied using data from the weather is automatically faulty because it was guessed at to begin with. Only a hundred year study can show a trend and only a five hundred year study can determine if the trend is changing. Without hard facts, no assuming anything all you have is wasted time and money which is a fact.

      Does anyone realize that the temp had ACTUALLY BEEN DECREASING since 2000, and now that coal plants have been closed at a record pace and windfarms and solar panels have been installed, there has suddenly been a temp increase? They told you the truth that windmills have warmed the ground, but they haven’t told you yet that Solar panels ACTUALLY TRAP OUTSIDE ENERGY from the sun and ADD BIT TO EARTHS ATMOSPHERE.

    When it’s cool or calm, that’s weather. When it’s hot or stormy, that’s climate. This is total B.S. Climate is measured in tens of thousands of years and we have been warming for about 12,000 years (remember the ice age?). Remember the claim that we were going to have killer hurricanes after Katrina, then nothing? Doesn’t matter to these leftist marxists phony scientists.
    And by the way liberals, you better pray to gia (I know you don’t believe in God) that it doesn’t get cold again. Remember the little ice age in the 1700′s? Thousands of people died from massive crop failures.

    They always go back “JUST” far enough to support their views. Dear Mr. Peter Sinclair, explain why and how the mid-1800′s, the Early 1900′s, 1901, and 1936 had far worse and longer heat waves than we are having since the 1960′s.

    They really need to stop just comparing a couple or few decades on this research, go back and compare ALL data that has been recorded in history. Then release the data and we’ll figure it out.

    A couple of years ago during the winter all sorts of records were being broken because of blizzards and the cold. When that happened the global warming crowd kept saying that people who said that the weather disproved global warming didn’t understand the difference between weather and climate. Funny how it isn’t significant when the weather works against global warming but is very significant when it warms up.
