Eyebrows have been raised and a U.S. Marshal’s probe launched following the posting of a video on the official website of Rep. Peter King.
The Long Island Republican is chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security and has been a steadfast supporter of increased national security measures to monitor radicalization. The video in question, which has since been removed by Rep. King’s official Youtube account, featured the 67-year-old Congressman participating in a ride-along with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force during a Monday raid of a high-risk and believed-to-be-armed fugitive in Brooklyn. The raid took place coincidentally just a few blocks away from where Rep. King went to high school, and the video included the logo for the TV show “Manhunters.”
The Wall Street Journal reports that the U.S. Marshals Service is now investigating the raid to see if the video taken with and posted by Rep. King during the arrest violates any federal policy.

The video reveals the fugitive’s face, name and charges, identifies several task force officials during the arrest, features the storming of the fugitive’s walk-up apartment, breaking down of a door in chase of the fugitive, and the fugitive subdued by the task force officials who held the him handcuffed, face-down and pinned to the ground by an officials knee.

At the end of the video the congressman recaps the take down, and the weapon and narcotics found on the fugitive at the time of arrest.

Talking Points Memo reports that after inquiries to Rep. King’s office in regards to the video, which he also tweeted, it was marked “private” and no longer available to the public on YouTube. The video was later removed and replaced by a shorter version, which TPM notes cut almost a minute of footage, including clips of an officer kicking in a door, a joke about how Rep. King “got” a suspect, and an officer describing to the congressman how he kicked someone, perhaps the suspect, off a ladder. That video has also now been removed by the user.
“The policy restrictions which prohibit individuals who are not U.S. Marshals employees or Task Force Officers from filming inside a private residence are intended to be in place during all ride-alongs,” U.S. Marshals spokesman Jeff Carter told TPM in a statement. “We are currently investigating this matter to determine exactly what happened in this instance.”
Rep. King’s spokesman Kevin Fogarty told the Wall Street Journal; “Congressman King was invited by the US Marshals to accompany them in a series of raids and everything was done in compliance with their procedures.”
Before removal, TPM was able to capture the original video:

Posted on March 15, 2012 at 8:50amHey folks, I like Pete King. He stands up for what is right. I think he deserves a cabinet post in the next administration…perhaps Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS). We long islanders support him 1000%!!!! I think he did nothing wrong, perhaps a staffer rushed to post…nothing truly wrong.

Posted on March 15, 2012 at 4:38pmYeah – it is great that are law enforcement officials are able to storm into anyone’s property at any time for any reason that they deem necessary, and that some schmuck like Rep. King is allowed to take part in these law enforcement activities with no training at all! The war on drugs is a war on the american people – we don’t need Rep. King in charge of the DHS, we need DHS to be disbanded. Making drugs illegal makes criminals out of good citizens – you need to wake up and help stop the violation of our rights by this oppressive government, whether it is D‘s or R’s in charge makes no difference.

Posted on March 15, 2012 at 12:42amKing screwed up posting that video showing the alleged suspect. They should have carefully edited the video before posting it, or run it past the U.S. Marshals, first.
King didn’t do anything else wrong, but he might have just possibly made an innocent man a pariah in his community. Sure, it’s likely they caught a bad guy, but what if he was just a dope head with a gun (’cause he lives in the city and he’s an American, too) and he really wasn‘t the guy they’re seeking and he really isn’t a hard criminal? King should appologize, stand up and take whatever minor fines are thrown at him, and make sure he doesn’t make that mistake again.
Oh, and he should convince other Representatives to go on ride-a-longs.

Posted on March 14, 2012 at 5:18pmI watched this particular show and I watch “Manhunters” as much as I can. It’s a great show, all the officers involved treat criminals with respect. I also have great respect for King. His hearings on “Extreme” Muslims showed me there are MANY regular Muslims that have lost children to extremism and some have even died. The extremists are imbedded in our prisons.
Report Post »Now DOJ is going after our own NYPD for following some of these extremists. It does not suprise me that they are going after Congressman King.

Posted on March 14, 2012 at 3:53pmMaybe they can take THIS HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION to the U.N. along with the requirement of showing a VOTER ID? This administration INFURIATES me. I will give EVERYTHING I HAVE to defeat as MANY OF THESE COMMIES as possible next election! I hope you are all with me on that! It’s now or never and our only weapon needed is enough VOTES..hence the phony accusations.

Posted on March 14, 2012 at 2:49pmSounds like the Dems are trying to drum up bs charges. I did plenty of ride-alongs through the Boy Scout Explorer program. Ended up in a few wooly situations. Learned a lot. And had a lot more respect for the police than my peers at the time. If your local police force offers ride-alongs or a citizens program of anykind I recommend. Besides such opportunities being interesting and enlightening, shouldn’t right wing tea party people be getting more involved in their local government?

Just for those of you who didn’t have their glasses with them while reading, I wanted to just point out a couple of small important items. High-risk and believed-to-be-armed fugitive and the fact it was just a few blocks from a high school (it does not matter who’s high school, just that it is a highschool, should draw concern). People; this guy’s photo should be posted along with any of his convicted associates photo’s on billboards on every street corner!!

Posted on March 14, 2012 at 2:46pmRaids are made with a warrant meaning they had probable cause, the raid also yielded drugs and guns which I’m betting were not legal. You Pault@rds hate law enforcement because, just like your Marxist brothers in the OWS movement, you are nothing but anarchist criminals and you know the next door that comes down could be yours sending you to jail where you belong for your crimes.

Posted on March 14, 2012 at 12:39pmwhy do they need to investigate this how ridiculous. have they nothing better to do. thank you peter king for actually taking the time to meet with and participate in the things you legislate. if more politicians spent less time in their offices and more time seeing what is actually going on in wars, law enforcement, schools, etc they would all get a better perspective.
