Video Shows Garbage Truck Driver Sprint to the Aid of Baby in a Stroller After it Rolls into Intersection

Jeff Blackburn Uses Garbage Truck to Save Infant in Stroller in Busy Intersection

Jeff Blackburn was driving a CleanScapes truck in Seattle on Thursday when he saw a baby in a stroller glide unaccompanied through the intersection in front of him.

Without hesitating, Blackburn maneuvered his car so that it blocked traffic– honking his horn to alert a nearby FedEx driver– before sprinting out of his car to save the infant.

“I pulled my airbrake and jumped out of my truck as fast as I could to stop the stroller ’cause the stroller was either going to go down the hill or cut into the curb,” he told KING 5 News. “Luckily it cut into the curb…because at the bottom of the hill was a busy intersection,” he continued.

Watch the heartwarming video, below:

Reports indicate the mother had been jogging with the baby, and briefly turned her back to talk to friends.  It wasn’t long before the stroller started rolling down the hill, into the intersection.

Blackburn recalled: “She came running in, she was freaked out and was shaking…I don’t even think she said anything, she just grabbed the kid and ran away.  She was just really, really shook up.”

Thankfully, the baby was unharmed and smiling at the end of the event, as Blackburn, an unidentified woman, and the mother all rushed to the child’s aid.

Dont strollers have a wrist safety strap, to prevent such a situation. They do in my part of the woods.
I know at least that they have a brake, and it should be used.
Shame on you mom.. just a moment’s inattention, and it could have been all over.

It doesn’t matter who got there first. Whoeever had a part in trying to keep that baby safe is a “hero”. All of them responded in a positive way and did the best they could from where they were at that moment in time. Kudos to ALL of them!

I‘m just glad the Progressive government didn’t do what would be normal of them and throw the mom in jail for neglect and take her kid away. I thought for sure I was going to see (man save baby in intersection, mom goes to jail for neglect) Post.

Seattle has hills that would be mountains in some parts of the county. A jogging stroller is made for joggers to use. So if the mother let go for just a moment the stroller could easily take off and gain speed on a hill. I am sure she is thankful that others were there to stop the stroller and protect her baby. She must have been frantic. For the critics it is easy to blame someone rather than look at the positive outcome. Use this as a teaching moment and try to do one act of kindness it may change your whole life.

I can’t help to think that there were probably at lot of people that saw this story on local news and thought it had a great outcome. Yet the legal killing of children goes on daily and no one bats an eye…..

Mr Blackburn is a hero. The woman who also ran to this baby’s rescue is a hero. Had he not honked his horn the UPS driver may not have seen the stroller. In addition he stopped oncoming traffic by blocking the road. Seattle has people that care and that is the important thing.

Things happen fast when it comes to our kids. Thank God for this man and women coming to the aid of the baby. I do believe the mom will pay closer attention next time. It was a careless accident. But the baby is alright.

Thank God the baby is safe! Good for the truck driver, the UPS guy, the woman who stopped the stroller. I feel sorry for the mom. She must have been terrified (& p/o’d at herself) when she realized what she had done. Lesson learned. No harm done.

No…the driver saved the babies life by not running over it with his truck you moron and honking his horn to alert other drivers.

Your post shows how little you care about anything else other than your own satisfaction.

If the guy is a hero for not running over a baby in stroller then I’m a hero one thousand times over for not shooting every moron I come across each day. Not killing/harming someone doesn’t make you a hero. Putting others above your own safety and risking your own life for the life someone else makes you a hero. Soldiers on the front line are heroes. Firefighters who make the decision to walk into a burning building to save a life are heroes. Police officers who stand between the public and an armed assailant are heroes.

I hate to be picky too, but the woman got to the kid before he did…and the stroller had already stopped when she got there…I suppose his horn honking helped, but he really didn’t do anything else.

Snow…I have a great appreciation for your past posts. For this case, yes, the guy did great…as a single dad now who fought for his kids this is another reason why. Dad’s care for their kids as much as a mom. I find it amazing that no one has a clue that MOM was so preocupied that she forgot her number one responsibilty. Seriously?
