ZAPATA, Texas (AP) — Authorities in Mexico say the search has intensified for a missing American tourist presumably shot and killed by Mexican pirates on a border lake.
That news came after U.S. officials said threats of an ambush from drug gangs temporarily thwarted efforts.
Tiffany Hartley said her husband, David, was shot to death by Mexican pirates chasing them on speedboats across Falcon Lake on Sept. 30 as they returned on Jet Skis from a trip to photograph a historic Mexican church. Neither his body nor the Jet Ski has been recovered.
Mexican officials say hundreds of people using speedboats, helicopters and all-terrain vehicles are searching for David Hartley.
Blaze updates:
CNN says video shows the missing man’s watercraft hours before reported incident:
However Michelle Malkins is VERY skeptical:
You also know that I have long called out fishy hoax crimes however the political/ideological chips fall.
Which brings me to why I did not jump all over the alleged Mexico lake shooting last week involving Tiffany Hartley and her husband, David.
At this point, there are way too many unanswered questions and inconsistencies in Mrs. Hartley’s story/stories.

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 6:16pmI may be wrong but if anyone wants to make a bet. I’ll take it that this is all fake. The drug lords in Mexico are as ruthless as the ones in the middle east. They are killing innocent people and anyone who even thinks or has a thought about going against them. They will cut and dismember them and send pictures to everyone around so they know what they are dealing with. There is no way in Heck that they would ever let a blonde girl go. there is no way they would leave a witness and let a good ski that go, She would have been passed around those boats and killed just for laughs also her ski would have been taken so they could use it to run drugs. The girl did not think this through. I just hope the husband is in on it and they both go to jail and that she did not have him killed. Does anyone know if they had insurance? Too much of her story does not make sense.

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 4:12pmAll I know is that from most of the murders that take place where the spouse is involved. They usually don’t talk to press, police or anyone else about the matter. So I believe her story, now as far as her making mistakes about the way it happened. When you are being shot at by people things can get really mixed up in the process. I believe that she is trying to remember everything but might be second guessing her memory. As far as crossing the border to look at a partially submerged church that is totally believable. A lot of people will break the law if they think they can get away with it. It’s just the thrill of getting away with something. What gets me is that Obama and that Napoltanieos woman say that the borders are secure. Yeah, go tell that to her. I bet she would argue the point with you. Any other president would be howling about this story. But I haven’t heard a peep out our learless feeder (oh, I mean our fearless leader).

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 3:53pmJust so people remember it is very common for some people who live on the boarder to cross back and forth almost every day. Lots of very good people live in South Texas. Them riding Jet Ski’s is no different than bass fisherman fishing on the Mexican side. It is no shock that the Mexican government is not lifting a finger. Just about every government official in Mexico is corrupt.

I hope they find him! now it is time for the US goverment to protect us there, stop the nonsense in DC and stop invading our lives and protect them from enemies abroad——NO wait the goverment is becoming an enemy within the boarders why should they protect us? They want this kind of thing to happen and they have no intention of protecting us.

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 3:00pmShe reminds me of Susan Smith. And this is what I don’t understand….why is she out there giving television interviews every day and night? You would think she’d be home grieving. Odd behavior. And, yes, I know people grieve in many different ways. But this whole scene seems incongruent.

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 2:43pmI can’t believe how quickly people turned on this woman and think she murdered him. I think if she were guilty they would have found the body and the jet ski. I think if this was a drug related incident with drug cartel members, they may NEVER FIND EITHER. No one knows all the facts yet and should not jump to conclusions. If I were that witness, I would NEVER want anyone to know my name. Imagine being a witness against THOSE people if this is true? They murder anyone who crosses them. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 2:41pmI also wonder. Why doesn’t she go ahead and take the lie detector test? She keeps saying he was shot in the back of the head but then pointing to the dead center of her forehead and saying “he was shot right here”! There are never any tears in her eyes. Why would they have shot him and let her go?
Also I saw an interview with the reliable witness last night, who stays in the shadows and won’t let his face be seen, and he kept switching back and forth between saying that she said this or that about how her husband was shot and then going into how it looked with blood gushing from his forehead and down his face. How could he possibly know how it looked when he supposedly only witnessed her on the jet ski with the boats chasing her? Why were the boats chasing her after they had already according been within 10 feet of her pointing a gun at her and then turned their boat and left? There are a lot of unanswered questions right here in the U.S. on this entire matter.
That being said I would never even think of visiting Mexico right now.

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 3:04pmPTSD.
The most likely reason behind the ‘holes’ in her story is guilt and PTSD. I don’t believe she tried to rescue her husband, I DO believe she THINKS she tried. Most likely they were tooling along enjoying the day and saw her husband shot, panicked and ran like a rabbit. Shooting someone on a jet ski doing 20 – 30 mph is believable. Trying to shoot someone on a jet ski doing 70 mph while you are in a boat skipping along at 70 mph ain’t gonna happen.
She gets away, nobody on the Mexican side is willing to cross the cartel and plenty of people on this side are willing to blame her. Sorry, I’m not willing to throw her under the bus because others have tried to pull scams and got caught.
Mexico should give us permission to enter their territory on the lake to conduct our own search. Just make sure we have some gunships flying cover while we are over there.

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 3:04pmI already know how I would react to a violent crime committed in front of me. It’s happened. I would be in total tearless shock and then focused on getting my story out to help my family until I got TOTAL JUSTICE. — — the media CAN help, I know this for a fact. not everyone falls apart in to a helpless pitiful yuppie blob of tears under shock and stress.
I applaud her for standing and trying to keep his murder in the news, for how quickly we forget someone ELSE’s tragedy.
chances are what she saw is he had an entry wound and the exit wound.

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 2:09pmLike a lot of people, I speculate that it was drug related. Apparently, most people in the area know that Mexican drug gangs control the area of the lake on the Mexican side of the border. The USA needs to post signs several feet from the border, if they have not already done so.

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 2:01pmPeople argue that this is a hoax because they haven’t found a body or the jet ski. If these guys are pirates, doesn’t it make sense that they would take the jet ski rather than let it float around out there? As for the body, if you murdered someone in a public area, would you leave the body floating there for authorities to find? If this story is indeed true, I’m sure the pirates did at least a little work to make sure nothing was found. If it’s a hoax, this jet ski will surely turn up soon.

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 2:49pmI agree. It’s a rather sad commentary that we apparently have so little confidence in the Mexican authorities to even act like they should find and prosecute the killers. Posted on October 9, 2010 at 5:11pmDid I miss something? It sounded like the Mexican government is AFRAID to search because the have been threatened? Who is in charge….the government or the bandits? If lawlessness is the rule of the land, then the UN (like they would suddenly grow a backbone when ther is REAL trouble) needs to step in. They have taken up expensive real estate in NY, and used an lot of sanctions that hurt the common citizen and do nothing to those in power, and a lot of lip service, drawing line after line after line in the sand, without really making an enforcement. If force is all they understand, then force it should be. America has been used as the world’s police force long enough. It is not a role that we were EAGER to take on….it is just that no one else would step up. Are we going to have to clean up this mess in order to protect our own citizens, too?

Posted on October 9, 2010 at 9:08pmone has to wonder what the police on either side of the border are thinking when they are using the excuse that they couldn’t find the other jet ski.. My first thought why would the shooters not have picked up the jet ski and taken it..? they go in a circle around the person who fell off (or they run out of gas).. so getting the body on board of the jet ski and riding off would have been simple enough.. and dumping of both even easier since the MEXICAN police and government are SCARED to even go on the lake where the missing man was.. Even if they found anything I highly doubt if they would have enough b***s to even go in and get the body or jet ski..

There is only one way of doing this and that’s by legally moving the drug business to the American free market. It will obviously have to be regulated to some degree, but it’s the only way.
