Video Surfaces: Radical Egyptian Preacher Says If A Man Leaves Islam ‘the Ruling Upon Him Is Death’

Blaze readers may remember Shaykh Abu-Ishaq al-Huwayni, an Islamist preacher who often appears on Egyptian television to call for violence against anyone who converts from Islam. Now, Translating Jihad has deciphered yet another one of al-Huwayni’s disturbing sermons.

The clip, which appears to have been posted back in 2009, features the faith leader saying that, “Islam is a religion which has limitations and rulings.” Once again, he goes on to say that anyone who leaves Islam should be killed.

While he says that it is not permissible to kill someone simply because he or she is an “infidel” (i.e. not an adherent of Islam), he claims that whoever enters Islam voluntarily, then leaves — “the ruling upon him is death.”

Here is a complete transcript of al-Huwayni’s words:

“They say that freedom of conscience should be provided to every human being…. because Allah Almighty says, ‘There is no compulsion in religion’.” So it is like a druggie interpreting the Qur’an.

“There is no compulsion in religion?” True. “Whoever will may believe, and whoever will may disbelieve?” True. However, this is on the condition that you do not enter the Islamic faith. You are free. No one is compelled to believe in, or convert to, Islam. You’re Christian? Be a Christian. You’re Jewish? Be a Jew. You’re in any other religion? Be whatever you like.

But you should know that Islam is a religion that has limitations and rulings. One of its established rulings, upon which all scholars unanimously agree, is that whoever enters Islam voluntarily, not forcibly–it is not permissible for him to apostatize from Islam. If he does that, the ruling upon him is death. You still want to enter the faith with this punishment? Fine. You don’t want to enter? Fine? We don’t need a curse. We don’t want you either. This is the ruling in Islam. “There is no compulsion in religion”? Ah.

If your Lord willed it, everyone on earth would believe. Then will you yet compel people to become believers? I don’t know anyone who has been compelled to enter into Islam. The offer was left to the early Muslims. They were courageous peoples. They were distinguished by the strength of their hearts, of their will, and their firmness in making decisions. Islam was offered to them, and they believed.

We don’t know of anyone who has been killed simply for being an infidel. Nor is it permissible for anyone to kill someone simply because he is an infidel. Islam is a religion which was established on persuasion. No one is ever compelled to enter Islam. However, if he enters Islam, there are rulings. There are those who want to have freedom to reject Islam (kufr). If a Muslim disbelieves, there is a penalty.

But some say “There is no compulsion in religion.” He doesn’t pray? “There is no compulsion in religion.” He doesn’t pay alms, or perform the hajj, or fast? “There is no compulsion in religion!” What Muslim scholar has ever approved this? No one ever has, and no one ever should speak this nonsense. The only ones who advocate this are druggies and boozers. At a time when people are reaffirming the Islamic doctrine in every corner on earth, such advocates want to get rid of Islam.

You may recall another al-Huwayni video that we posted back in July. The clip showed him, in an interview with the Egyptian satellite television station al-Hikma, saying that anyone who insults the prophet Muhammad, even if he or she later repents, must be put to death. And who can forget his other shining moment, depicted in a video and controversy that the Blaze covered back in June. The radical preacher purportedly called for selling captives “like groceries,” then offered a bizarre clarification following the coverage of his statements.

Al-Huwayni has also found himself in the news of late. A few weeks ago, the San Francisco Chronicle offered more details about the increasingly disturbing developments in Egypt’s sociopolitical landscape.

Naguib Sawiris, Egypt’s most well-known billionaire and the country’s most prominent Christian, has received death threats after posting a controversial image on Twitter. The Chronicle reports:

The death threats started in late June after Sawiris, 57, posted an image on his Twitter account of Mickey Mouse in a beard and Minnie Mouse in a niqab, or full veil. The cartoon, sent to him by a Muslim friend after circulating in the blogosphere, was titled “Mickey and Minnie after …” — meaning after Egypt’s November parliamentary elections, in which a September poll suggested Islamist parties would win the biggest share of the vote.

Following the post on the social media platform, al-Huwayni allegedly took to television on July 7 to say that people like Sawiris are insulting the Prophet Mohammed. The radical preacher shouted, “We will kill him even if he repents,” which seems to be in line with most of his past statements and pledges.

Considering the recent violence against Coptic Christians in Egypt and the increasing fears that Islamists will overtake the nation, the prominence of al-Huwayni and others like him is disturbing.

      You are correct, the Old Testiment is full of killing. However, Jesus tells us in the New Testament that He came to “complete the law” of the Old Testiment, and that we are to LOVE God and LOVE NEIGHBOR as self. If you LOVE everyone as self, you will not harm them. But, few humans, on their own, understand LOVE to that degree!

Give me a break with this worn-out, incompatible comparison you muslim apologists love to throw out. Note that there is no “New Testament” equivalent for the Koran. It’s stilll the same backwards-a$$ 15th century barbaric doctrine that it has always been, mainly because trying to revise or change it is specifically forbidden and punishable by death.

      @Smackdown, the old testament is full of genocide as was the entire world back then and all people groups had very violent systems of government. The thing is the israelites asked for God to give them all the strict laws thinking it would make them closer to God and more righteous, the old testament was an exercise in showing mankind that it is impossible to follow such laws. We live now under a period of grace after Christ came. The fact that there are current muslims that would like to continue living in their dark past is not o.k. with the majority of people on this planet.

      This is why it is hard for the rest of us to trust the muslims that reside here. It would be easier if they would speak out as citizens of the United States but they remain silent. Maybe they fear for their lives if they do, but it makes it hard when we hear these comments. Especially with so many homegrown terrorist that keep popping up. I hate it that we have to be so suspicious but sometimes we have to be out of necessity. With groups like CAIR and with all of theses recent incidents of law suits,honor killings, and demands to remove Christian crosses and nativity scenes, using the word Christmas, allowing the mosque by ground zero, and on and on, it just causes such chaos and fear among us. I do try not to judge and try not to be narrow minded. I have to admit that it can be a struggle at times. I don’t want to be that person that judges all muslims by the ones who wish us harm.

    I’ve been telling people this for years (studied Islam for my religious studies major), especially in relationship to Obama. His father was a Muslim (lapsed?), so through “inheritance,” Obama is a Muslim whether or not he chooses to practice it!

    How about the idea of a “religion of compunction”? One-world religion anyone? No religious tolerance in the end, heads chopped off, the “mark on the head” from bowing and rubbing on a prayer rug?

      It’s true. Though Obama says he is a Christian, our Lord and Savior said that to come to him you must be born again. Obama has never stated being born again or having that experience with the Lord. He thinks because he’s sat in a church and showed up to hear his pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright preaching for years that it makes him a Christian. That’s like thinking that all your “good works” will lead you to Heaven.

    Didn’t know that….. please sign me up for this all-hopeful chance to renew Thyself through a human-projection of an unforgiving vengeful god. Boy I better read the Koran so I can understand my limitations?! I feel like I just dropped in on a garden, full of flowers, Quartet playing Mozart, and rose pedals falling from the sky against a beautiful backdrop of a yellow-red sky, and a gentle sway in the lake before me. That, I think, is a Monet painting?

    I thank God that I have forgiveness in Him through His Son Yeshua, and that I have a helper each day, IF I let Him (which I do – I need as much Wisdom as I can get!!!!!), the Holy Spirit to guide me in my walk, and if I don’t cleave to Him and wander a bit, I may be tested, I maybe disaplined(sp), but I know, I KNOW, that If I call to Him….. He will be there, with open arms, and will forgive me. In all this, it doesn’t mean I seek to sin – that’s not good. BUT, it allows us a bit of latitude to make mistakes and to right wrongs.

    I think there’s a difference between a physicall “Or ELSE” and a Spiritual one. I’ll take the LOving, Forgiving, Spiritual one EVERYTIME!!

    Oh…. I feel the wave of hope and change coming…. its going to be fantastic!!

      Absolutely correct, though the original Koran says nothing of the death penalty for apostates. Of course, throw in a few Hadiths, and the picture changes with nuts like this preaching stuff that was never in the Koran.

      As an aside, a case can be made for the death penalty for simply cursing your mother or father. Check out Exodus Chapter 21 & 22. Now I’m of the New Testament, so I tend to reject much of the old law. Still, it’s in the Bible too, so some could conceivably off their siblings for dissing Mom and Dad and use the Bible as justification. They’d be crazy, but they might do that.

      There’s all sorts of crazy people in the world.

This Islamic preacher said if you enter into Islam voluntarily…no one of Isam who was born of Islam has voluntarily entered into it. It is the religion of death.. their is no hope except of hell..in Islam.. if you are one of God’s true chosen..He will provide a way out for you..Islam lives under the law..Christians live within the law.       Obama is indeed a muslim. Many explained this during the whole “who is Obama” fad but were labeled racists and told to shut up.

      Obama parades about in the garb of the Christian West just as Allah parades about in the garb of God.

      Obama engages in Jihad in praise of Allah.

      No one has been Forced to enter Islam? What does the Koran say? — Convert or be Killed! The Islamic practice was to Highly Tax the Heathens, accepting Debtors as Slaves… and this how Christian Slaves became Warriors for Islam: the Janissarys!

      I would never leave the Muslim faith because it would be a cold day in hell that I would ever except it – I am however, looking forward to the day when I am asked to choose Islam over Christianity. I am going to take out as many of these rag heads as I can.
