Videos Show Syrian Protesters Under Fire and the Gruesome Consequences

BEIRUT (AP) — The death toll in a government security crackdown in northern Syrian town has risen to 25, a human rights group said on Sunday.

Rami Abdul-Rahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the deaths in the town of Jisr al-Shughour included four policemen. The operation is part of a crackdown that began Saturday and was continuing Sunday.

He and other activists said the Syrian military, meanwhile, pulled back tanks from the outskirts of the tense central city of Hama and in southern villages.

A resident of the city, where least 65 anti-government protesters were killed Friday, said the tanks retreated from the outskirts of Hama overnight.

He said the situation in Hama remained “very tense.” Residents were conducting a general strike in memory of those previously killed when security forces opened fire on anti-government protesters Friday.

“Most of the shops here are closed, people are grieving and worried,” he said by telephone on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.

The deaths in Hama and reports of tanks headed there had caused new alarm. The city rose up against Assad’s father in 1982, only to be crushed in a three-week bombing campaign that killed thousands. Memories of those days are still raw.

Activists said the army also withdrew from the villages of Dael and Hirak near the city of Daraa where the uprising against President Bashar Assad’s regime began in mid-March.

The military had been conducting military operations in the area for days.

The Local Coordination Committees, which helps organize and document the protests calling for an end to the Assad regime, said a total of 18 people died in Hirak and 12 in Dael since the start of the operations.

The activists reports could not be independently confirmed. The Syrian government has severely restricted the media and expelled foreign reporters, making it nearly impossible to independently verify events there.

Details of the operations in Jisr al-Shughour were also sketchy and attempts to reach residents of the town were unsuccessful, possibly because communications have been cut.

State-run news agency SANA said Sunday four policemen were killed and more than 20 wounded in the area when “armed terrorist” groups attacked government buildings and police stations.

It said the groups have been launching attacks against government buildings since Saturday, setting fire to a nmber of public and private buildings, cutting off roads and intimidating residents.

    The Syrian regime is trying to cover up their slaughter of their own population by starting up trouble on the Isralei border, knowing that the world press will give trouble with the Israelis more coverage and take away attention from what they are doing at home.

    That is the norm for the world press who are anti-Jewish, anti-Israel and will find any excuse to bash Israel. Deception is the norm for these Communist reporters. They will give 5 munutes of coverage to a bunch of people paid (By the Assad regime) to try to crash the Israeli border but say almost nothing about this.

    Obummer actually wanted Israel to return to the 1967 borders? What a COMPLETE DOOFUS! When dealing with these lunatics, there is and never will be any compromise. Israel should have never given up Gaza. Now, these camel drivers want more and if given more, they will want more yet.

    Obummer should get another medal alright: THE NOBELLY PUKE PRIZE!

    obama will stand as long as possible to protect his friend Assad. Syria just opened the border to Israel to take the focus off what is happening in Syria. Assad is far worse than Gadaffi but he will join Iran and the Islamic terrorists where Gadaffi would not. This administration is supporting a regime change in the middle east that is not good for America. They are taking out the leaders who would not join in an Islamic caliphate and turning the countries over to the Muslim Brotherhood. We have NO REASON to be spending millions of borrowed money on Libya and we certainly have NO REASON for AMERICANS to be KILLED IN LIBYA. Contact your Senator and Congressman and tell them NO MORE $$$ on Libya.     I really do not care what happens in a Country where Islam is the major religion of that Country. These freaks murdered thousands of Americans because the majority of us reject their stupid religion where women are subjugated to males.

      That would be an American Black, I assume. Some of them dress that way for the attention, and some to shoplift, or both. Those black women in Muslim garb have are girlfriends of incarcerated black males who have been radicalized while in prison. The garb makes it easier to lift. Try to stop me and I’ll cry, “racial profiling” and/or “religious persecution.”
      We’re fighting not only those with radical, racist hatred fueled by pimps like Jackson, Farrakan, Wright, V Jones, but the Anglo White and American Jew Left for some reason unknown to me believe in this one-world nonsense.
      All people are not alike and all men are not created equal either intellectually or physically. The only hope was our Constitutional Republic, which unfortunately has become unraveled due to the very own freedoms only it can provide.
      I‘m afraid that we are headed for violent chaos if we don’t stand for our founding principles no matter what the cost. It may well be too late to stop it.
      Thank a co-ordinated effort by Communists/Marxist’s/Black radicals for where we are. They have been able to use the very freedoms our system gives to take us down.

      We created an insurgency by invading iraq .the people never asked us to topple him.had we not invaded ,there likely would have been an uprising from the educated, secular iraqis ,like there now is in syria and was in egypt.that we have the right to invade by shock and awe a country that is oppressive when the people themselves are not behind it ,is wrong.How many bombs are you allowed to drop on people simply by using the word democracy in your sentance? That people themselves are rising up and in need of aid in their uprisings is different then our invading and bombing a country where the people themselves have not asked for liberation.And of course we supported saddam when he killed iranians and only went there because we needed a military base when osama showed us that his people in arabia who were fundamentalists did not approve of our bases there[a reason for the creation of alquada]. iraq with its oil and non fundamentalist popultions became a preferable location for our oil and military bases- interests. that is why we then [after 9-11] resurected this moral indignation at his having gassed his own people.it didn’t bother us at the time [he was our friend then] even as the rest of the world was outraged.

      I don’t defend the syrian regime.had we not gotten involved in iraq when the people never assked us to, we could now be helping the people overthrow the brutal syrian regime.instead of making enemies we would be seen as heroes for helping the syrian people.That we invaded these countries before the arab spring , we created enemies and those people died in vain since the arabs themselves are now struggling to over throw brutal regimes.The syrian regime is evil and brutal but so too the istraelis who kill syrian protesters.Those borders should be openbecause the creation of the israeli state was an imposition created by a white man’s club that negated the reality on the ground-that that land[greater syria it was called] was arab inhabitied and they have a natural right to be there.

      And you completely ignore the the Butcher of Baghdad again.
      YOU said that we should not have not been in Iraq. True or not he was slaughtering hundreds of thousands of his own people.
      So in history or modern day, who do we go after? Hitler, Sadaam, Kadaffi, Mubarak who? None? Saddams Baath Party which was aligned with Nazi Germany in WW2 killed a lot of people. In more recent times Sadaam killed many of his own people Ex: rape rooms , death by torture, slaughtering the children of his political opponents, machine gunning of protestors, and he was a genocidal rascist. These are just the things we know about. Did you forget we saved many of your beloved people at that time.
      We shouldnt be the world police, we should pack it in, seal our borders , and protect ourselves before it is too late. IMO

Certainly had to be military. I’m appauled at the smile on the one guys face over the dead body. Why are they dispensing this film? Why do they want to show the world their crimes against their own people who were peacefully protesting? Lots of questions here that seem odd to me they would want to control media, but not their own murderous actions?
