Violent New Film ‘Toddlers’ Features Harlem Teens Brandishing Guns, Shooting Man in Head

A new independent film depicts young, “baby-faced” teens and pre-teens roaming the streets of Harlem, guns in tow, while leaving a bloody trail of bodies in their wake.
According to the NY Daily News, shoot-outs, drugs and sex are front-and-center in “Toddlers” — made in Harlem using local kids reportedly as young as 12-years old.
The Daily News reports that anti-violence activists are now poised to boycott the video store selling the DVD but the film‘s director insists he’s merely telling the truth about his neighborhood:
Director Termaine (M5) Brown insisted he’s not promoting gun violence, just showing a harsh reality.
“That‘s what’s going on, I’m just showing it,” Brown told the Daily News. “You hear about these murders, but people don’t see how it happens. I show how these incidents happen. These are real life situations.
“The parents don’t get to see what these kids are really doing,” said Brown, 29, who was raised in Harlem and shot many scenes on W. 147th St. between Broadway and Amsterdam two summers ago.
The DVD cover features a chubby-cheeked kid holding a gun. In the one-minute trailer, posted on YouTube, kids are brandishing guns; a girl is kidnapped by thugs and a man is shot in the head.
The plot of the movie reportedly centers around the lead character, Pito, played by 14-year-old Jordan Pena. Pena turns to a life of crime after his drug-dealing father is killed.
Pito, once a promising baseball player, purchases guns with his newfound drug money. He and his friends gun down anyone who gets in their way.
Pena, who said his first-time in front of the camera was a “great experience,” insisted the movie doesn’t promote violence.
“It promotes how to turn into a man; how to take care of a family,” said Pena, now 16. “It promotes how life is out here. It’s definitely reality.”
Disturbingly, Pena said that playing the role of Pito wasn’t difficult at all as it was “like playing my life.”
“It was basically me acting like myself. It wasn’t hard at all. This was like playing my life,” said Pena. “I was proud of myself for finishing the movie.”
Pena added that his parents and grandmother were also proud of him for doing something “positive.”

His personal story is a good one about getting out and being successful. And though they are being judged harshly and justly by most, they still have the ability to change. But it takes a terrible series of mistakes to really see the other side that’s missing from the street life that overwhelms them. I can’t apologize for their violence and stupidity but while they live they have the chance we all share to become humbled by that last misstep into near oblivion. But the movie is unnecessary and an angry indictment of the lifestyle of miscreants. Punks without a cause. Two-bits tossed and losing every time. Gamblers without game. Quickly drowning themselves in blood in foretaste of a black eternity.

The “hood” is a place of preditor and prey, and that choice must be made very early in life which you shall be. No matter how wonderful you parents/ parent are, they can not cover the evil that pervades the “hood”, they can’t protect you much as they might like too. The “hood” is kids on corners playing lookout for kids with pockets stuffed with cash and drugs, the king drives the caddy with spinners and all pack heat. The school is but a collective of self serving liberal indoctrinators thinking they are doing something good, the children run in fear from or towards trouble, the school offers no zone of safety. Streets littered, with the souls of the dead and decaying, urban blight long since morphed into hells advertisements. I walked those streets in my youth, though they were kinder back then, the love long gone, hope rhymes with dope and the latter sells far better to those who won’t seek a way out.

All those out-of-step clergy and other christians back in the 50′s who told us that Hollywood, TV, and worldly music was an evil trap of the devil were absolutely correct. Any young people (adults too) who watch this movie, and all other violent movies, are submitting themselves to desensitization of suffering and death. It gradually becomes the norm…just ask any gun toting gangbanger what’s normal and acceptable.

On the one hand, I can see how the director wanted to call attention to these “children” (using the term very, very loosely) killing and raping in the streets. On the other hand, I can see how the anti-violence people find this “film” appalling and want to remove it.
I shall remain indifferent, apathetic, and thankful I live in Pennsylvania.

It sounds like the kids are bring up the parents. The article said The parents aren’t getting to see what these kids do??? WHAT, if u live in this atmosphere, u better know everything ur kid is doing LACK OF PARENTING is what this movie should be called. His parents & grandmother were also PROUD of him for doing something positive. WTF. I blame this on the parents and all the ENTITLEMENT programs that have taught them NO VALUE. In the article his dad dies, but when mention about being Proud he did this, parent had an (s) . I blame this inter city crap on the PARENTS not being a parent plus being able to rely on entitlements that don’t allow them to learn self respect for themselves or others. These kids take the easy way out and don’t work, don’t go to church and plans to take from others what they should be doing for themselves.These parents in these neighborhoods need to unite together and find out what they are doing and put the fear of god in them if they don’t get a job, have good grades etc. I would go so far as to find a state agency to send them away if they did not obey the laws of being a human. I would find civilized programs for my kids to join and go with them and support them etc… WHERE IS THE PARENTING IN THIS?? Do they feel this is ok to live like this???? Like I have said before , criminals will always have guns. Obviously these kids know who and where to get them from. They are influenced by not only their surroundings, but their famlies, rap music, video games and Hollywood. A child does not come into the world like this. Allot of this is caused by generation after generation of government dependency. There is no incentive for them. No one to teach them any different.. Yet we have a president and a progressive movement that calls for violence? It breaks nmy heart that any child becomes a victim of such a lifestyle, but it has to come from the parents of these children. When the only hope you see is the hope to find someone to steal from, rape or kill then somewhere along the way you loose any innocense of your childhood. Where does the encouragement come from? What about inspirations and dreams? The culture has to change in order to help these children. I am not being racist, I am being realistic because I want that for these young people.I want every child to be wanted and loved. To have food, water, and shelter.I want them to have hope and laughter, a normal childhood. It has to come from within the black community. I am not saying all of the black population , but a big enough portion that needs to have pride. Not only in their color but in their accomplishments, their contributions and in their childrens future.
