Viral Chick-fil-A Picture Claims Christians Don’t Feed the Poor — But We Have Proof to the Contrary

This week, hundreds of thousands of Americans rallied to support Chick-fil-A amidst a firestorm of controversy over the fast-food chain’s views on gay marriage. As Christians and free-speech advocates rose to defend the company’s right to stand in support of “traditional marriage,” some critics waged attacks on those lining up for the so-called Chick-fil-A buy-ins.
(Related: Here Are 5 Christian Companies That Join Chick-fil-A in Publicly-Proclaiming Their Bible-Based Views)
An image that was making its rounds on social media had a strong and condemning message for the mass number of Christians lining up at the restaurant.
“You’d never see that many Christians lined up to help at a food bank or homeless shelter,” it read. “And that’s something Jesus actually said to do.”

While it’s not immediately clear where the image originated, the aforementioned quote makes a plethora of assumptions — the first of which is that Bible-believing Christians are not overtly involved in feeding the poor and helping those in need. But reality paints a very different picture.

Americans "lining up" to help out at the "Restoring Love" Day of Service (Image Credit: George Lange/Lange Studios)
Just days before the Chick-fil-A controversy hit a fever-pitch, Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Love” brought tens of thousands of Americans — many of them Christians — to Dallas, Texas, to worship, serve and restore. Through the “Day of Service,” these individuals rebuilt homes, renovated churches, fed the poor and engaged in other activities that “Jesus actually said to do.”
Despite the mainstream medias’ refusal to report about the astounding events that unfolded, many lives were changed as a result of the “Day of Service” initiative. Embracing the ideology present in the aforementioned image ignores the hard-work and dedication of tens of thousands of Americans who braved the heat in Texas to “line up” and serve their fellow man.

TheBlaze was on-site to witness some of the inspirational stories of volunteers reaching out to help “the least of these.” We published numerous examples of these stories of people “lining up” to help those in need. Among the many stories resulting from “Restoring Love” is an effort to bring food to New Mexico’s depressed Navajo Nation.

Terra, a staff member on Beck’s Mercury One charity staff, appeared on the air on Wednesday to speak further about the project.
“There were approximately 500 individuals there waiting to receive food. Pastor Robert gave a blessing. During that time he specifically wanted to thank both your organization, Glenn, and also Mercury One. He said they’ve not seen this kind of outreach before.
The local media came out to cover it and they shared with us that the local media does not come out to the reservation unless there is a shooting or a death. He said that in the 12 years that he has been there on the reservation, he has not seen them come out for anything other than a shooting or a death. So, that was pretty moving.”
Considering that tens of thousands of volunteers from across America worked at 305 service projects across Dallas, the size and scope of the event was massive to say the least. In the end, in addition to the projects, 14 tractor trailers filled with food went out to 11 cities across the country.

Certainly, non-Christians opposed to the Chick-fil-A ban are entitled to their opinions on the matter. But dismissing the work that Christians do on a daily basis defies reality. In the end, organizations like Here’s Life Inner City and Teen Mother Choices International — both Christian-run and operated — showcase the hard work that goes on in the trenches. They are, of course, only two of the many examples.

While “Restoring Love” serves as a perfect anecdotal example that proves that tens of thousands of Americans who are willing to give of themselves, these non-profits prove that there are so many Bible-believing Christians who regularly show up at food pantries, homeless shelters and wherever else they may be needed.

Even as many Christians live out their faith and help those in need, this isn’t to say that everyone is pulling his or her weight. The needs are massive and many do, indeed, fail to live up to the Bible’s commands to help the poor. Still, the narrative that Christians care more about Chick-fil-A than serving others seems somewhat unfounded, especially days after the historic “Restoring Love” volunteer initiative.

Go coast to coast in the U.S. and see who runs most of the charitable soup kitchens, and homeless shelters. See who runs the Reformers Unanimous programs across our country. I got news for you. It is not liberal atheists doing most of the charity in this country, it is Christians. American Christians do more to feed the poor worldwide, than all other nations combined. America sends more missionaries worldwide, than all other nations combined.
Libs are so used to being able to use the tools of political correctness to get their way. they either scream “racist”, “sexist”, or “homophobe” to get their way, but it is no longer working like it used to. People are wising up to it, and are starting to apply truth, logic, and history.
Jerry Sandusky is a homosexual. He is also typical of what comes out of the homosexual community. Check the stats up in Vermont, where they were some of the first to start allowing same sex couples to adopt children. Check the stats, and see how the boys are doing that were adopted by gay males. It is sick and evil what is being done to these kids.

If homosexuality is normal, why do they have 64% of the nations syphilis, why did they make up 70% of new HIV cases last year, why do they commit a third of the nations child molestations, why do they have off the chart suicide rates, why do they have a much shorter life span, why do lesbians have much higher rates of breast cancer and STD, why do the suffer from gay bowel syndrome, why do they have such high drug and alcohol abuse rates?
I serve with soldiers of every race. They are soldiers, and I view us all as being green. Race is not a choice, it is genetic. As advanced as our science is, and as hard as they have tried to prove it, gay is not genetic. Homosexuality is from environment and a series of choices. It is like being a heroin addict. No one wakes up one day, and said “I think I will shoot smack in my arm today”. Being a heroin addict is from environment that one places themselves, and a series of bad choices.

You see, you may not agree with someone’s decision to get divorced, but you recognize their right to it.
And this is not to say that divorce and homosexuality are the same thing. One is a choice (divorce) the other is most clearly not (homosexuality). So imagine denying someone a right you hold dear because of factors completely out of their control…

Report Post »Both are a choice! It is genetically impossible for people to be “born gay”. Genes are passed down by your parents, ie. generations of white people can not spontaneouly have a black child. In my family everyone has blue eyes, I married a man who has blue eyes through generations of his family, nothing but blue eyes. Our children have blue eyes, it is genetically impossible for them to have eyes any other color. Since homosexuals do not generally reproduce, if there was a “gay gene” it would become extinct in a couple of generations. Just like if all but 2% of blacks stopped having babies, there numbers would progressively fall until there were none left. So the only way there could possibly be a “gay gene” is if it were some kind of birth defect or genetic mutation that occured spontaneously in the womb (like downsyndrome). But if this was the case it would be easily identified as a deviation from the genetic makeup of the parents. Thus the “gay gene” would be identified. You are entitled to your own opinion, not your own science. And I would love for the government to make it harder to legally get a divorce by getting rid of “no-fault” divorce. You run out on your family, you should not be able to come back and take the house and the kids. And I would love for judges to rule that parents couldn’t get a divorce unless they could prove they can support two households and the costs of their kids. I am tired of picking up the tab for people’s choices.

It is funny reading your genetic theories, they are completely false but funny. Many genetic diseases kill their victims before they have a chance to reach puberty, yet thousands of children are born with these killers year after year. They will never have the chance to pass on their genetic information to future generations.
I guess your home school/bible based education didn’t do a good enough job with science.

Which makes my point valid. If the “gay gene” was a genetic aborition like downsyndrome, it would stand out like a sore thumb in your genetic code and be easily identified. Read past the headlines of that study and you will find that male primates who exhibit homosexual behavior do so to demonstrate dominant and submissive behavior. You are missing something really important here. There doesn’t have to be a “gene” for something to be congenial and therefore not chosen.
Type I Diabetes, for instance. There is an abnormality that causes this at birth, but it may not genetic.
Homosexuality probably isn’t a gene, but that doesn’t make it a choice. I say probably because we don’t have every gene mapped yet. Contrary to what you seem to think, genes are not singular letters as they are represented in a Punnett Square. They are a complex mixing and mingling of many hundreds of million individual genetic sequences.
While we can largely guess the outward appearance of an individual based on their parents, there is really no guarantee and we certainly haven’t mastered the craft. For instance, if 20 generations back you had a black person in your family, there is a very real chance that one of your offspring could have been dark-skinned. It’s not common, but it’s certainly not unheard of.
Anyway. All of this is to say homosexuality is not a CHOICE. As a heterosexual male, my attraction to women is something I literally cannot explain – I just have it – and there is no amount of money on earth that would ever allow me or convince me to “choose” to like men. I just literally cannot do it, I don’t have it in me.
If you think it’s a choice and can envision yourself making that choice then, in all honesty, you’re probably bisexual.

I was able to find your source, thank you for that.
You may want to read this
http://aje.oxfordjournals.org/content/112/6/836.abstract
Which explains that, while there is a higher occurrence of some STDs in Homosexual males (such as Syphilis as you’ve indicated), heterosexuals males have higher rates with other STDs (such as nongonococcal urethritis or Genital Herpes – among others).
So I caution you, when providing “evidence” towards a claim, you should really provide the entire picture or you will have done your readers a disservice. A half truth is really just a lie.

It’s even worse than you say. The sad reality is they are the biggest hypocrits in the world. They’ve given themselves a special dispensation from those things they accuse others. They are the racist, bigots, murderers. They denigrate and show intollerance to Christians for a number of reasons. One reason is in order to support the gay voting block, whom they’d turn on if gays overwhelmingly voted conservative. The other is Christians tend to vote conservative.
They are muderers. They killing unborn and newly born babys with impunity and justifiy it with sactimonious slogans such as ‘women’s rights’. They beat up black and latino people that don’t hold their view of things. A good expample is how they are going after some latino guy (Zimmerman) calling him a ‘white Mexcan’ to create a narative which is to impune white people as muderers at the Latinos expense . Theyve turned him into a sacrifical dude. Get a clue Latinos. They call conservatives racist and bigots. As I said before, they are the racist, bigots, and murderers. The proof is in the putting. And if you can, then you are probably bisexual.
But lets even say people choose to be gay; lets assume you are right. What does that mean?

The religious conservative has to convince himself that homosexuality is a choice because it messes up their delusions if it is genetic (which it most certainly is).
There is absolutely that could make me sexually attracted to another man. I respond that way only to the female of our species. I’m 100% convinced that there is a genetic component.
You see, homosexuality can’t be genetic to a conservative because their phantom in the sky (‘god’) would NEVER ‘create’ a homosexual, you know.

Posted on August 3, 2012 at 10:13pmReally, conservatives don’t help the poor? The difference between the conservative approach to charity and the liberal approach is that liberals think they’re Robin Hood, robbing the rich to give to the poor. Because of this, they give LESS to charity than the ones who pay all the taxes. Case in point…Joe Biden. He pays less than $1,000 per year to charity. Yet, he considers himself one of the most charitable men on earth. Conservatives believe charity is a moral imperative, no matter what the government thieves do to them. So, on top of taxes they give FAR more from their own time and pockets than does the left. Those of you who claim that the service rendered by Restoring Love didn’t happen and the photos are doctored..are you kidding?! Liberals do more for charity than churches and conservatives? Not according to all the studies that have addressed this contention. Even when we are being taxed to death, we continue to feed the poor. The biggest difference is that the conservative approach leaves people with their dignity.

I could also not be a pedophile, but people choose to be. Or do you believe people are born attracted to children? Could you ever be attracted to children? If you think that is a choice and they are not born that way, perhaps you are a pedophile? Your argument lacks merit.
Please understand the push back, I could care less if gays marry. Hire a band, bake a cake, go right ahead. The reasons Christian’s opose GOVERNMENT SANCTIONED gay marriage is because under current anti-discrimination laws, if the government decrees that gay marriage is the same as regular marriage than my freedom of religion is GONE! Gays can force churches to marry them. If a Christian wedding photographer declines to take pictures at a gay wedding, their business will be shut down. The first step is put out the propaganda that it is not a choice and they are born that way, the next step is to force Christians to “accept them” in violation of their beliefs. And who cares if the government recognizes homosexual marriage. That does not REQUIRE churches to marry them, the church ceremony is not needed for a legal marriage. All homosexuals want is equal rights in terms of distribution of property, visitation in hospitals, tax benefits, etc. The many benefits that heterosexual married couples get under the law should be available to homosexual couples… This does NOT infringe on your religious freedoms. First of all, knowing one person that “chose” to engage in homosexual acts does not therefore prove all homosexuals made a choice. I can choose to burn my eyes out, but does that mean all blind people chose to be blind? Think about what you are saying!
I am going to assume you are a heterosexual male (like me). We like women, we never CHOSE to like women, we just always have and always will.
I like women so much that even the thought of being intimate with a man disgusts me; almost to the point of nausea. There is no way I would ever choose, or even be able to consider choosing, to like men. Even under penalty of death I would be hard pressed to engage in homosexual acts.
You think other men, who were presumably born the same as you, ARE able to make that choice? They are programmed the same as you, but are able to wake up one day and decide they are going to be attracted to men – you think that’s possible?
If you could ever see yourself making the choice to like men then, in all honesty, you are PROBABLY homosexual; at the very least bisexual. I can assure you, as a heterosexual, there is NO WAY I would EVER be able to do that. If you CAN then – rather than suggest you are heterosexual and gays are making the choice you haven’t yet made – maybe you should consider the chance that you aren’t actually heterosexual.
Not your fault, you were just born that way.

I am not trying to insult you – I don’t consider homosexuality an insult – but I feel obligated to inform you that, if what you say is true, then you are definitely not exclusively heterosexual. No way.
You can think I am lying and that I also have the ability to “flip a switch”, but I can’t. I literally cannot explain it, but there is just no way. It would be like asking me to see out the back of my head. In this case from the majority to the minority – be it race or traditional values like respect for authority, or marriage , or religion. The real problem with this is that this transfer of POWER means increasing friction between the groups and causing civil unrest when this issue of who is driving the bus , the majority or the minority . Another problem is when this “ transfer” is done with such disrespect and hate by the minority groups. Apparently , according to Saul and the Lefties, the minority has more right to POWER than the majority and this POWER can be gained in methods which only heighten civil unrest . A very dangerous , dysfunctional , undemocratic way to gain POWER. Since one of the traditional values is ” law and order,” these minority groups will use the opposite to gain their POWER. If they can’t win at the ballot box, the minority seems to prefer to resort to the street .

Posted on August 3, 2012 at 9:46am*********, it’s not expensive to eat healthy, it takes time to cook healthy food, but it’s not really that much more expensive than crap. Go look at welfare people’s baskets, they are full of tv dinners, pizza, twinkles, bacon, crab legs, crap they don’t have to prepare themselves, the junk they buy is more expensive than healthy alternatives, just not as quick, heaven forbid they waste time cooking, when they can be watching Montel, smoking a fatty, or having sex.

Posted on August 3, 2012 at 9:55amdlc137 – I disagree. Vegatables are cheaper than processed food. You can eat a very healthy diet on a very reasonable amount of money. No pizza, beer, and less meat will make shopping much more affordable. Have a small home garden. I do all the above. I am not on food stamps, just find it healthier.

Posted on August 3, 2012 at 10:01amdlc, ive been poor too. when i was poor i lived without gas for a year (no heat, no hotwater in the winter!), without a phone for 6 months, and with out electricity for 3 months (until my stepdad saw one day that i had no electric and paid my bill) all i had money for was rent. i lived off of chicken breasts, mayo and saltine crackers. once in awhile id go over to my dads and hed have a box of macaroni and cheese for me (id have to borrow his milk and butter). i had no cell phone (still dont, cant afford one!!) and no car insurance. i would buy gas in 8 dollar increments and that was to get me to job interviews. so i kinda know what it is to be poor. i also know how much it costs to shop. ive lost 75 pounds within the last few years via eating health and exercise so i can assure you that when you eat healthy your bill is in noooooo way more expensive than eating pre packaged junk food. in addition fast food is not cheap anymore. so that myth of junk food being cheap is just that, a myth. control your portions, shop in season, shop on sale…..if you do those you can eat healthy for cheap, but cheap junk food is an EXCUSE to eat like ****.

Posted on August 3, 2012 at 10:09amHaving been poor and currently working full time but still with a limited budget it is a MYTH that one cannot eat healthy on what is given to them. Beans remain one of the cheapest sources of healthy protein available, chicken is available for about 6 dollars for a 10 lb bag of leg quarters. If not stuck in a rented apartment gardening can be an option and there are community gardens in MANY areas these days. People have planted fruit trees in parks and recreation areas and there are olive groves on public land in California where people go and pick them up to process at home as a TRADITION. Soda is zero nutrition and high calorie and available on food assistance. The problem isn’t a lack of funds but a short supply of knowledge and actual gumption to fix the problem. Grandma raised 15 kids, and the only day they got desserts that wasn’t canned fruit was Sunday…her children were NEVER obese and she did it without government assistance and they were NOT rich. They simply had the knowledge and learned how to take care of themselves. Mom learned how to co-plant sweet corn and beans from HER MOTHER.

They deliver daily lunches to school children over the summer- THOUSANDS of them. They have a kitchen that serves ANYONE who enters- this kitchen serves breakfast, lunch AND dinner every day of the year. EVERY meal is donated, and prepared and served by volunteers. There is a homeless shelter that houses men, women and children. They have a career center, counselors, etc. They have a food bank and clothing. They open the showers for the homeless that live on the streets, help them with services to eat, be clothed, and get work. for every ONE hour of paid staff, there is OVER THREE HOURS OF VOLUNTEER HOURS.
It is the left that takes from some, then pays others to “help” the poor. It is the folks with American values who use their own treasure, time, and hearts to love the poor. I never leave Must without hugs and thank yous. Sadly, it is they who save me……..

The husband of this family has been out of real work since 2008 (at or about). I then wait more than an hour longer for my 9 dinners.
All of this because I am a gay hater that cares about no one but my political ideals. It absolutely is not because I think a person has a right to express an opinion without having “the screamers that cannot take dissenting opinion” try to ruin the guy.
I will be going today to get lunch and watch a bunch of homosexuals make a fool of themselves and let them see their behavior cannot stop me from doing what I want and expressing my opinion.
I only wish I had the foresight to organize a bunch of “old fat men” like me to walk amidst the “kissing bandits” and remove our shirts with bulging bellies and man boobs, “release beans” and state “I hope you do not find this offensive. Its my natural right and hurts no one.”

Breakfast Lunch Dinner (3 square meals… take that)
A ticket for meat/protein as mooboma see fit
a ticket for starch/carb as mooboma see fit
a ticket for vegetables and/or fruit as mooboma see fit
they do not need a drink so water from city filtered water.
I BET they’d eat better then left to their own demise
And yes, a nutrionist could be easily hired to evaluate the families so that there is no ethenic insults based on food options (No pork on the list of coupons for Mooslums)
Dont like it? Get a job and crawl your way back up or get up for the first time and do something about it

A number of other gay and lesbian groups hold fundraisers for local charities to support the community STRAIGHT & GAY.
Charity isn’t preformed by Christians only… You say you want civility and genuine dialog to debate the issues, but you make derogatory and misinformed comments about the other side, just as you feel that they make derogatory and misinformed comments about you and Christianity.
