Viral Video: Chicago Teen Knocks Out Homeless Man While Friends Laugh

Viral Video of Chicago Teen Punching Homeless ManThe video is from April, but it’s starting to go viral. And now it has officials scrambling to figure out who’s involved.

The disturbing video surfaced on the site Worldstarhiphop.com over the weekend (link contains unedited language) and shows a teen’s encounter with a homeless man at a Chicago train stop. In it, it’s unclear what the homeless man is saying, but young people in the background can be heard referencing change. As the man waddles around, the teen can be seen wandering behind him, eventually asking the man a question. When the man turns to the teen, they exchange words. That’s when the teen delivers a closed-fist punch to the side of the man’s head, sending him to the ground immediately and appearing to render him unconscious.

But the most disturbing part of the video may be what happens after the punch: the teen’s friends can be heard laughing and boasting about the incident as they board the train, and only one person rushes to the man’s aid.

The station reports on the attacker and what is being done:

FOX Chicago News spoke to the attacker’s mother on Sunday. She refused to give her name, but admitted that it was her son in the video. She said he had been “going through some things” at the time of the attack. The mother had not seen the video until we showed it to her; his father saw it for the first time on Saturday.

A CTA sign flashing in the video indicates the attack happened in April 2011. FOX Chicago News contacted the CTA on Sunday; we were told that the agency had not heard of the attack until now, and investigators would look into it.

But according to the video report above, police say they will not get involved until the victim comes forward.

“Did you have a spiritually rejuvenating weekend during which your loving family members and random kindly strangers helped to restore some of your dwindling faith in humanity?” asks Gawker. “This video of a Chicago teenager punching an elderly homeless man should eliminate that new-found faith.”

Or at least call us to restore honor and courage.

      However, I am glad to see someone come to the aid of the man that was knocked out. There are decent people left in this world.

      Back in the day, a bystander would have stepped in and scolded or punished the teen. With our society today, people are afraid to get involved due to retaliation or lack of community / legal support for doing the right thing. That’s what bothers me more than anything. It takes a village…so we should stop prosecuting / vilifying those that try to help set people on the straight and narrow.

      Before the Civil Rights Act a black on white murder or assault was almost unheard of.. It rarely ever happened. Today we are losing thousands a year to interracial crime yet no one dares to speak openly of it for fear of the word.

      Yet 3k were killed on 9-11 and we are suppose to surrender all of our constitutional rights to the feds.. Interesting is it.

      By the way, my (half-black) daughter and (half-black) son both said that they would help a homeless person if they saw him get punched in the face. Additionally, over this summer we went on a road trip: my (half-black) daughter gave money when she saw homeless people, and we also gave some of our food to some hungry people sitting at rest stops.

      Oh, and we also have a friend who is currently homeless. When he stopped by our house, my (half-black) daughter gave him her Bible because he lost his (and he’s a Christian). We also let him borrow our car and put him up in a hotel for the night while he was here to get some court stuff taken away from him (our friend is white).

      What these people did was horrible, but I’ve seen videos of white people attacking the homeless as well – and I think that it’s despicable either way.

      You spelled my name wrong, for one, but it was not uncalled for at all. It’s called sarcasm. I obviously don’t agree with the top statement. Do you honestly think I want my husband, kids, mother-in-law (who I think is awesome), nephew, etc. all shipped off to Africa?

      I may be mistaken, but aren’t you black? Then I don’t see why you would agree with all the above commenters that are basically saying that all black people are hoodlums and we need to segregate everybody. That was what my sarcasm was for.

      Every single black person that I know is a conservative Christian. Many of the black adults that I know have college degrees. True, most of the black people that I know are either in my family or go to my church, so my perspective is a little skewed. I still think that racism is wrong. The above posters can try to hide it by saying that they’re not racist; they’re just pointing out the fact that all of the people you see on the news doing bad things just happen to be black, but the fact is that black people (and white people) brought up in a family that teaches you to accept handouts and take what you want, no matter what the consequences are to others, are more likely to turn out poorly, and black people (and white people) who are brought up by parents that tell them to respect others and work for what they need are more likely to turn out well.

      Most of the black people I know didn’t vote for Obama. Like I said, I don’t know many black people outside of my family (husband, kids, mil (who comes to us for advice on who to vote for), bil, nephew, and then my husband’s cousins) or go to my church (which is an independent, fundamental, KJV Baptist church that pretty much preaches against everything that Barack Obama stands for). I am most likely an anomaly. Obviously, I know that there are black people that listen to rap music and are all for social justice and all that; I just don’t hang around those people. I hang around with fundamental Baptists, homeschoolers, and people that take their kids to gymnastics (generally not welfare-mom types).

      My point is not that there aren‘t some black people that don’t know how to behave, just that there is a segment of the black population that is fundamentalist Christian, conservative politically, and aren’t out there protesting and asking for handouts. I know they exist, because I see them on a daily basis. You don‘t demonize an entire population when it’s only a segment of the population that’s causing the problems.

      Well, hopefully you don’t live in a nice neighborhood in Texas, or perhaps Arizona, because when my husband graduates from law school we’re going to have to find a new place to live, and it would be a shame (for you) if we ended up moving next door, wouldn’t it? We’re certainly not going to live in a ghetto, especially since my husband generally gets along better with the “white culture” than that which would traditionally be thought of as “black”. Especially since my kids are homeschooled, which means that if we’re not at gymnastics, church, or some other event, we’re home all day. LOL.

      Personally, I don’t have any use for anybody that hits a homeless person. I don’t care what color they are. I can think of quite a few (white) people that either were homeless at one point or currently are – while some heartless people think of the homeless as non-humans, I do not.

They’ve NO self-respect. Their little baby boy has none. So how can any of these fools be expected to have respect for others? Since we’re losing all of our rights anyway, when China officially occupies this toppling nation, they’ll cane the punk.       My dad would have beaten the breaks off of me. And my mom would have done it again. Since they were divorced I would have caught hell twice. What that say about the morality and mantality of that youing man and his freinds. First off in a civil society you respect your elders or walk away if you can’t. Secondly in a civil society you should show compasion for the homeless or mentally ill with usually goes hand and hand.

      I would have never ever thought of behaving like this. Not because I feared punishment but because I was raised right. I’m forever thankful to my parents & grandparents for teaching me to be a decent, respectful, honest, responsible person. And I’ve raised my kids the same way.

      Nor do I recognize my country, its government or its people. There has always been violence and some lawlessness in this country, but youth on the elders? For no real reasons! Not even self defense. This is where we have lost our souls. We have put so much focus on these kids to make them better citizens but we’ve got the exact opposite in return.

      I also believe that we are all truly frustrated. There is no common sense in our country any more. I personally think the protestors are fakes. They have no real jobs, they don’t want real jobs..and they are going after the wrong people.

      Some one…unions, administration etc is supporting them..oh and ACORN…they are not wanting constructive or they would go after the government that provides the loopholes in all the tax laws.
      All the comments here, and other places, seem to be fruitless and out of frustration.

      Things will not change until we get someone in our government that truly cares about all of us..a big order…something we have not seen yet.
      No Welfare checks for the habitual slacker, no student loans to expensive colleges etc..If you have no honor and cannot pay back what you borrowed, what good are you to society. i cannot help the fact that some of the public is on the public dole for years and years, expecting the other guy to pick up your bills,
      or the people that father chldren and leave them behind while they are doing things to go to prison, leaving a family without a direction…..men that have several children all by different men, where are your morals????
      And those that chose a college that the cost was outrageous because of the name etc…Go to a city college….get a job and put yourself through like many of us did..yeah, it’s hard, but very doable..

      I believe frustration reigns at this point.
