Voter Confronts Romney With ‘Quotes’ From the Book of Mormon During WI Town Hall

Campaign events hold the potential to offer up some pretty uncomfortable scenarios. This is especially true when more power is given to audience members and hecklers work their way up to the microphone.
This morning, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney had an awkward encounter with a man in Green Bay, Wisconsin, when the individual started listing what CBN’s David Brody referred to as controversial “quotes” from the Book of Mormon.
As Brody notes, in a video captured of the incident it appears as though one of Romney’s staffers is trying to get the man to stop. Then, the presidential candidate tells the man he’s not at the political event to have a conversation about religion.
Here’s how the dialogue between Romney and the man unfolded:
Man: Okay, well, in the Mormon Book it says there was a blackness came upon all the children of Canaan
Romney: I’m sorry, we’re just not going to have a discussion about religion in my view, but I can, if you have a question, I’d be happy to answer your question.
(inaudible from man)
Man: (difficult to hear) Do you believe it is a sin for a white man to marry and pro-create with a black woman?
Romney: No. Next question.
Watch the awkward scenario unfold, below:

What gets me is that the media (Fox included) is all over Romney over a small thing and Bill Ayers parents former mailman says that bill’s mom told him (sworn affidavit) that they were paying for barry’s (foreign student) harvard education and an hollywood producer (major) bettina viviano is now on record stating that bill clinton told her that barry was in-eligible to be potus.
These people could take their clothes off in times square in front of the Today Show yelling the truth through bullhorns and there would STILL be a media blackout on barry’s ineligibility.

Rick Perry is a very big spender of our money here in Texas. We pay for him to live in a house every month: $10,000.00. Can‘t he afford a home of his own while the Gov’s mansion is being redone? Now he will give Apple over 21million dollars to move to Austin, what if I don‘t wan’t Apple here? I have no say. What if I don’t want my money supporting Apple? I have no say in that either.

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 8:07pmFirst, define “cult”. Secondly, the Mormons actually try to practice the system of morality that they preach, quite unlike the mainstream Protestants and Catholics. Third, how can people like this heckler in Romney‘s audience try to pin a ’racist‘ label on Mitt without simultaneously pinning a much more realistic ’religious bigot’ label upon themselves?
Report Post »By the way, Zoro51, were you aware that Rick Perry has been exposed as a promiscuous bisexual? (While Governor, Perry was making dates with other bisexual men and even having his state bodyguards along for protection. What do you think of Gov. Perry‘s ’born-again morality’?)

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 8:53pmI wonder if most of you know that in the beginning that what we affectionately call Christianity today was a “Cult” of Jewish Religious Belief. They called themselves Followers of “THE WAY” since Jesus preached a process of “belief/FAITH[Greek term]“in the Atonement of the Blood Sacrifice of the Lamb at the day of Atonement.
It was not until 70 AD in the town of Antioch that the word Christian would be attached to the new Cult. And it would not become universally accepted until a Roman Emperor in 315 AD called all the Bishops of the Mediterranean Churches to Nicea to deal with controversy in the beliefs of the Church. That is part of the history of the Roman Catholic Church which most of the world sees as the basis for Christianity

If God is giving us Romney to defeat obama and fix the economy, you are fighting Him, and a losing battle. It Anita Perry was right when said God told her Rick should run, He isn’t being very helpful along that line is he. If God wants obama to win it is because we deserve it.
Romney does not wear his religion on his sleeve but in his heart and the Mormons did not invent racism. The agitator/hater dog whistling to get all the Rick Supporters in a religious frenzy?
Another Romney sin is that he believes all the Bible literally if a practicing Mormon and that includes James and being doers not just sayers of the word. Pure religion helping the widows and orphans and you care if the BoM says God marked a people now long dead to distinguish rival tribes? Maybe they just married darker skinned people like Ham and Egyptus, the traditional Christians Hammitic tribes during their slaver days and their Biblical rationale for doing so/
There were slaves in the BoM but ones I read about were whites by the browns or red/browns–no blacks. Utah and Mormons were not slave holders, one of the resons slave holding Missourians did not like them.

Posted on April 3, 2012 at 1:17amMormons are the only ones that practice the church of the bible, ask your Christian friends what happened to baptism by Immersion or in some instances baptism at all. Or how about tithing one tenth, or twelve apostles, laying on of hands, missionary work, fasting, revelation, sacrament, these r just a few to get you started. Ask them to describe God to you and listen how complex it is, this is to make you believe that you have to go begging to a pastor or priest. When the truth is everyone is entitled to call upon the powers of heaven. The answer you will get is “that this all ended with the death of the apostles. The Mormon reply is yes it did. In the bible it is called the falling away. If this is not a example of falling away then I don’t really no what is. I mean do you think u can really torture people to join and somehow call yourselves of God. Not to mention the fascination of little boy’s butts, then not even kick them out, so they won’t lose their retirement I mean come on. I have always wondered if Christians don’t believe in revelation how do you know that the decisions your organization are correct. Without revelation you come up with stupid crap like the father and the son are the same person. Sounds like socialism to me even God and Jesus can’t be individuals they have to be mushed together as a unit this little vid explains it better. NO WAY do Christians believe in 3 heavens and no hell
NO WAY do Christians believe Satan was Jesus’s brother

NO WAY do Christians believe in anything but the bible as the ONLY UN-CHANGING TRUE word of Jesus. (Mormons use other books written by their leaders doctrines and convanents and the Book of Mormon.

freedompurveyor – you said “You believe that Jesus Christ and God are the same thing. Mormons do not believe that; they believe that Jesus and Satan are both creations of God” If Mormons do not believe that Jesus is God, then they should be considered a cult. Posted on April 5, 2012 at 3:33amdeeberj – Does your list defining beliefs include belief in the literal resurrection of Jesus?
If you do not believe he was literally raised again with a body of flesh and bone which he continues to have to this day then how can you call yourself a Christian? Ironically you accuse those that do believe in the literal and physical resurrection of Christ of belonging to a cult. How can you reconcile that?
By the way we “Mormons” do believe that Jesus is God and a perfected man. God the Father is also a perfected man. Is that what you mean by “fully man”? If not please define that? Jesus is one of the three distinct members of the Godhead and worthy of our worship. No one can approach the Father except through Christ and in his name. For that reason it is not inconsistent to say we worship one God even though there are three distinct members of the Godhead all of which are Gods but with the Father as the head and director (Jesus said he could do nothing of himself).
We believe as Paul said there are Gods many and Lords many but to us there is but one God. I know the syntax causes confusion but to say we worship two or three Gods implies a division. On the other hand all descriptions I’ve ever heard of an incomprehensible three in one trinity is enough to make my head explode.

Posted on April 14, 2012 at 4:53amPlease I beg of you to learn about Mormonism from Mormons prior to writing them (us) off as cultists or non-christians. Do you like it when people demean what you believe in without really knowing what you believe? Shouldn‘t the only qualification of the moniker of ’Christian’ be you absolutely believe that your salvation is in and through Jesus Christ? That he lived and died to save us from our sins? Tack on additional qualifications and you’re no longer talking about Christ. Also, many of the qualifications listed by some of the comments here are not explicitly stated in the bible so technically they aren’t valid (by the reasoning that only the bible is the true word of God).
Take the comment that we aren’t christian because we believe Christ and Satan are brothers. First, nowhere in the bible does it say they aren’t brothers. Second, is it so hard to believe? It’s explicitly stated that Lucifer is a fallen angel, “the son of the morning”. His name even means “Light-Bearer”. Also, isn’t it stated that God created everything? And that we are all sons and daughters of Him? It’s not so out of this world to think that Christ and Satan are brothers when you take this into account. There are two issues people will take with this logic that I can think of and I’ll give my take on those issues of people say something about it…only have a certain amount of characters to write here after all.

Personally, I am more interested in what he is going to do to help turn our economy around.

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 6:18pm@SOY – it‘s because Romney’s religion is a non-issue. The media will try to distract from the true issues no matter who the candidate is. If the candidate was Ron Paul they would talk about nothing but 20 year old newsletters. Should Ron Paul have talked about those newsletter more? If Santorum was the candidate they would talk about nothing but contraception… should he talk about contraception more? If Newt was the nominee they would talk about his affairs – should he talk about them as well?
Romney has addressed the question on his religion numerous times – he made clear that it would not effect the way he governs in his great “Faith in America” speech. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16969460. Thus it is a non-issue.
He has also stated that if anyone wants to know what his religion teaches, that they should ask the representatives (missionaries) from his church.
That answer is just as sufficient at Ron Paul stating numerous times that he did not author the newsletters and doesn’t know everything that was ever printed in them. Then he moved on, just like Romney has.

Wise Jesus did not get caught in the religion/politics trap but said “Render unto Caesar” Romney has not denied his faith, says he isn’t a cafeteria Mormon. Restoration Christianity is every bit as Biblically valid as popular or traditional Christianity.
Fear is the opposite of faith and if you fear Romney and Mormonism for your validation or God’s preference or for the nations sake, help Romney keep it low key and off the table for the democrats to demogogue. The Mormon leadership on the flaps going on and specifically on the Book of Mormon musical didn’t march or get het up, but ignored saying the more bashing, the more people investigate and the more people join. Good reason for us all to tone down on the Mormon flak iMO. Mormon churches do not allow political speeches to invade our houses of worship. It is against the non-profit law on being tax exempt.
Mitt is a remarkable man, and the man for this season and Mormons aren’t interested in secular power, not even secular power to carry a sword for Jesus–he never told us that was his way.
In a secularizing world, we conservatives on social issues should find common ground in order to find common ground with our real enemies IMO. They own the media and the media will not allow our side the dictatorial powers that it i

He knows that letting the conversation descend into a bible contest would cause most of the people listening to him to become lost, because they dont care.
Furthermore, he knows that when it comes to religion, as Jesus said, peoples ears and eyes are either open, or they are closed. If people have closed off their hearts to considering that they are wrong about mormonism, then there is no point in arguing with them as answering their quesitons will amount to nothing. Those people are just trying to throw out gotcha questions, they have no desire to create a legitimate discussion about mormonism or they would do their own research before asking those questions. In doing such research they would realize that the things they criticize our religion for are baseless.

The presidential campaign is not about Mormonism but where Obama and Romney stand on political issues. Will some of his religion come out as issues are talked about, sure. Anyone who has a belief system of any type will have that belief system come out in there stance on the issues. Let it be exposed by talking about his stance on issues rather than any other subject.
If Obama is a Muslim it has no bearing on if he can be president or not. It only has bearing when his policies are to destroy American individualism from the inside rather than capitalize and expand American Individualism within this country. We find out through his stance on the issues we face and his position on those issues, not by discussion of his religion

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 7:08pmWhen mormons talks about “Jesus” they do not mean the Jesus of the scriptures. They might as well be saying Dr. Seus is the only way to salvation. Their Jesus is a mere created being, a product of the sexual union of a god who was once a man and some celestial mother (one of many of this god’s wives). They do not believe Jesus to be the one true, eternal God of the scriptures. Mormonism is simply counterfeit Christianity.

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 7:23pmI try not to be an elitist, but some times people are sloppy with their arguments. They say “You should be happy that Mormons believe in Jesus, too.” They reduce the Mormon Jesus and the Christian Jesus to the same name and think Christians and Mormons are in agreement. They fail to do the hard work of actually studying the tenets of Christianity and Mormonism. If they would take the time they would see that Christians believe Jesus is the eternal God and Mormons believe Jesus to be the spirit brother of Lucifer. To Mormons, Jesus is simply a man who attained godhood, just like god the father (who has many wives). That belief, “you will become like god”, as I argued in Counterfeit Christianity, is an ancient lie.

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 7:35pm@dogtags – I’m sorry you feel such discontent towards my religion that you would take the time to castigate it so. I just want to give you a quote from our Bible Dictionary:
“Christ. The anointed (Gk.) or Messiah (Heb.). Jesus, who is called Christ, is the firstborn of the Father in the spirit and the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh. He is Jehovah, and was foreordained to his great calling in the Grand Councils before the world was. He was born of Mary at Bethlehem, lived a sinless life, and wrought out a perfect atonement for all mankind by the shedding of his blood and his death on the cross. He rose from the grave and brought to pass the bodily resurrection of every living thing and the salvation and exaltation of the faithful.
He is the greatest Being to be born on this earth—the perfect example—and all religious things should be done in his name. He is Lord of lords, King of kings, the Creator, the Savior, the God of the whole earth, the Captain of our salvation, the Bright and Morning Star. He is in all things, above all things, through all things, and round about all things; he is Alpha and Omega, the first and the last; his name is above every name, and is the only name under heaven by which we can be saved.
He will come again in power and glory to dwell on the earth, and will stand as Judge of all mankind at the last day.”
That is the Christ I know.

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 4:51pmTired of the misinformation and revision of history. Nubians (where black people are descended from) are SHEMITES. Hamites are NOT BLACK and were compelled to live (before the meteor in 3123 BCE) in southwestern Turkey, in a region surrounded by 4 rivers with only a narrow entrance/exit point. Per Noah dictate to his son’s Shem and Japeth to surround the descendants of Ham as they will be “a great Canaan” (meaning harm) in the land. So Ham names his son Canaan. Think about the quote from Genesis “Cursed be Canaan” which means descendants of Cain. Noah‘s family were all descendants of Seth though Noah’s wife, Naamah, was a half sister to a half brother of Cain. Ham was proof that the psychopathic behavior of Cain’s descendants was loosed again in the world and had to be kept in check.
Its time people understood the accurate history of the world so, for example, Romney would be able to properly answer questions like this.

Believing in the name of Jesus Christ and missing the whole point of Jesus Christ is what separates Mormons from being Christian.
1. If you believe God was once a man. You are not worshiping the same God from the Bible. The God in the Bible is the one true God. It says it pretty clearly in the Bible.
2. If you believe you can become a god, you are not worshiping the same God from the Bible. There is no other God. No one created God, you will not become like God.
3. The Mormon religion has changed its views on many subject to become more main stream or PC(blacks priests and polygamy). I dont believe in any type of living prophet or Pope telling men what to do. Jesus Christ left us with the Holy Spirit to guide us.
On to the point of this whole thread, Romney is going to get hammered by Obama. Obama doesnt even need to point out the weird Mormon things because his record is so bad. Romney has agreed with Obama on almost every issue in the past 10 years. There is audio and video of this that Obama’s billion dollar campaign will point out every flip flop he has had.
Romney will not get the support to beat Obama and the Mormons will blame the Christians for not supporting Romney because he is a Mormon. No most of us arent supporting Romney because he is a bad candidate. He is McCain Jr. that will lose by more than McCain did the last election.

Let me quote the Prophet Joseph Smith in what he declared we believe:
We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.
We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Is this something that must be explained to you. I‘d rather be dealing with a mormon who’s genuine in his faith than Obama who supposedly slept in the pews for 20 years in the “church” of a race baiter and anti-semite. Tell me…how does Rev. Posted on April 2, 2012 at 4:42pm@JROOK – That’s a great question; the Book of Mormon does not vary from the teaching of Christ in ANY way. As printed right on the cover – the Book of Mormon is ANOTHER testament of Jesus Christ. It does not replace, it supplements.
Here is a paragraph from the introduction of the Book of Mormon in which speaks of my favorite part of the Book of Mormon:
“The crowning event recorded in the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ among the Nephites soon after his resurrection. It puts forth the doctrines of the gospel, outlines the plan of salvation, and tells men what they must do to gain peace in this life and eternal salvation in the life to come.”
Where do we differ from other Christian denominations? Another great question! I believe the best answer is one from the above text (referred to as the Articles of Faith)…
“We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.”
This “authority” is the Priesthoods of Aaron and Melchizedek. On May 15, 1829, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery knelt in prayer to ask God how they were to be baptized when an angel appeared to them.

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 4:44pmNo, there‘s absolutely no validity to the question and that’s why Romney wasn’t going to waste time with it. Perhaps people should actually do some history seeking into their own Christian religion and see that it was actually a protestant belief brought over from Europe that taught that blacks are black because they were cursed by God. This was NEVER a “Mormon” belief. Some converts to the “Mormon” church in the early days of the church still unfortunately held this cultural belief because it had been taught to them by their parents and their former church.

The angel introduced himself as John, the same that is called John the Baptist in the New Testament. He laid his hands upon the heads of Joseph and Oliver and said:
“Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness.”
A short time later, the Apostles Peter, James, and John appeared, placed their hands on the heads of these two fellow servants, and conferred the Melchizedek Priesthood.
Thus, if I was to sum up how we deviate from other Christian religions – we believe that God has not ceased to communicate to us through revelation and once again guides us through a living Prophet.
The living Prophet actually just address us all yesterday. Click here to read or watch his message.

As for your question regarding a child’s ability to become like their father – here’s a starting point.
man is become as one of us, Gen. 3:22
Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High, Ps. 82:6
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father, Matt. 5:48
spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have, Luke 24:39
Is it not written in your law … Ye are gods, John 10:34 (Ps. 82:1–8).
we are the offspring of God, Acts 17:29
heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ, Rom. 8:17
changed into the same image from glory to glory, 2 Cor. 3:18
if a son, then an heir of God through Christ, Gal. 4:7
Till we all come … unto a perfect man, Eph. 4:13
Again, I’ll quote Joseph Smith from my original post –
“We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.”

John clearly qualifies his warning to ONLY the Book of Revelation.
Otherwise, the entire New Testament would also be false as a similar warning is given in Deuteronomy 4:2 (A warning given by Moses not to add to or take away from what he was commanding – obviously written prior to the New Testament).

Another great question. The changes to the Book of Mormon have been those of grammar, not substance. Although Joseph Smith was the translator of the Book of Mormon, the spelling in the first edition was Oliver Cowdery’s, and the punctuation was John H. Gilbert’s.
Over the years, many deletions have been made, primarily to improve the book grammatically. The most commonly eliminated have been the words that (188 times), the (48 times), it came to pass (46 times), a and and (40 times), and had (29 times).
Additions have been less numerous, probably less than one hundred. For example, of was added 12 times, and, is, and the 7 times. Some additions simply result from rearranging parts of a sentence or returning words inadvertently dropped in earlier editions.
In a few places, however, Joseph Smith did intentionally add to the text to clarify a point. The text would be correct with or without the additional words, but the addition helps the reader avoid misunderstanding.
Such changes are allowable in the translation process of any text. I highly doubt the original authors of the the different books found in the Bible, wrote with perfect grammar in their original text (especially perfect English grammar).

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 5:57pm@NHWINTER – The Bible was not written as a book. The Bible is a collection of writings that were compiled centuries after they had been written. John’s Revelation was actually written BEFORE John ever wrote the Book of St. John or his epistles. So, to say the Bible says “no one shall add unto or take away from”, John himself violated that by penning his later writings that were included in the compilation IF that’s what it truly meant. The Bible also references/mentions other prophetical writings that are nowhere to be found in the Bible: The Book of Jasher, The Book of the Wars of the Lord, The Chronicles of the Kings of Israel, Chronicles of the Kings of Judah, The Book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the Seer, The Manner of the Kingdom, The Acts of Solomon, The Annals of King David, The Book of Samuel the Seer, The Book of Nathan the Prophet, The Book of Gad the Seer, The Prophecy of Ahijah, The Vision of Isaiah, The Sayings of the Seers, etc. So, just because these writings are nowhere to be found in the canonized Bible as we have it today, does that automatically invalidate the writings that were referenced in these missing books? Absolutely not. Apparently they were used and considered sacred enough to be mentioned by the original Biblical writers. Again, the Bible was not written as a book bound by one spine. It’s a collection of many writings and clearly does not contain the writings of all revelations and dealings of God with His people and His prophets of

In my earlier reply, I was trying to answer your question, but as you know, there is a limited amount of space here.
I absolutely believe that since we are the literal spirit sons and daughters of God, that we can one day become like Him (heirs of God, even joint heirs with Christ). We do not believe however, that we will become equals to God; we will always worship and obey Him. As for your question regarding where God came from, just as in the Bible teaches, God has always been and always will be. We have NO official doctrine teaching that God was created by parents or the like. Granted, there are some who assume that if we can become like Him, then maybe he was once like us… but again, this is speculation rather than doctrine. Does this answer your question?

Having a discussion in this forum on such a subject is difficult. If you want an honest answer to your question, I recommend going to http://www.mormon.org. If you want to have a discussion, I recommend talking with the missionaries about it or even some your “Mormon” friends.
The short answer is we really don’t know… there have been some people who have speculated on the subject.. and their words have been deemed doctrine by many people who don’t like our church and want to tear it down… most anti-mormon sentiment starts that way. It’s not taught in our church, it’s not part of our doctrine. We don‘t have lessons on such subjects because it’s not pertinant to someone’s salvation.
We don’t worry about it. What are the logistics and events that will happen after we die? What will do for the rest of eternity? The bible doesn’t really tell us, either does the book of mormon… it doesn’t really matter, we’ll know when we need to know. But as far as worshipping God on this earth and exersizing faith in him now… that is very pertinant to our Salvation. That is where you’ll find the meat of our doctrine.

I’ll try to explain: hen Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, Satan presented them with a challenge. He tempted each of them one at a time to eat of the fruit that had been taken from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Adam stood firm during the first test. Eve, on the other hand, was more easily deceived. Satan himself stated the following to justify her eating of the fruit, “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (see Genesis 3:5) Was this a lie? (Note the plurality of the word. She would not become as God, but instead she would become as gods.) Would she really become as “gods” if she did eat? After both Adam and Eve had eaten of the fruit, God said the following, “And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil:…” (see Genesis 3:22) This clearly shows that they had become as “gods”. Even God Himself said that they had. (It is interesting to note that if to know good and evil is to become as gods, who was God talking to when he said, “the man is become as one of us”?) So, we can see from this that there are in fact “gods”. God uttered this fact directly from His mouth. So why the confusion? This same book (the Bible) also says this, “And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:”. (see Mark 12:32)

Does the Bible contradict itself regarding this important doctrine? No. Notice the way the word is used. When Satan spoke with Eve, he used the word “gods”. Notice the lower-case “g”. But in Mark’s writings, it is shown as “there is one God”. This is true. There is only one God to us… but there are
Report Post »also beings known as “gods”. In John 10, Jesus went to the temple in Solomon’s porch. He was then
approached by Jews and asked various questions. Mainly, they wanted him to clearly say that he was the Christ. Christ responded by saying that his works testify of him and of the Father also. He then stated that he and the Father are one. This severely offended the Jews who in turn took up stones to cast at him. Christ then asked them why they were going to stone him. They responded by saying that it wasn’t because of his good works, but for speaking blasphemy and making himself equal with God. Jesus then responded with this, “Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;” (see John
10:34-35) The Jews believed heavily on the Old Testament teachings (known as “the law & the prophets”). In Psalms 82:6, it states that “Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High”. Christ quoted this scripture to show that those who received the word of God were called gods. This proved that what he said was not blasphemous because “the sc

God stated that “Ye are gods” and Christ reaffirmed this fact to show that they have chosen the term “gods” to refer to those who gain eternal life. So we see from this that even the Bible shows that those who know both good and evil are like gods but to those unto whom the word of God comes are gods. Also, in 1 Corinthians 8, Paul is talking about earthly idols and how there is only one God. But in verses 5-6, Paul states “For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all

Idols are only on earth – you won’t find any in heaven. Those that are called “gods” on earth are probably just pagan idols. But what of those that are called “gods” in heaven? There are such beings – in fact, many, as Paul says, along with many lords – but Paul explains that they have nothing to do with us, at least as far as worship is concerned, for to us there is but one God, and one Lord, Jesus Christ. There are several other references in the Bible that state what we are to become, but does not use the term “gods”:

Romans 8:17 states that since we are the children of God, we are “heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” If we become heirs of God and joint-heirs of Christ and are glorified together, what do we inherit? Revelations 21:7 says “He that overcometh shall inherit all things”. In Revelations 3:21 Jesus says, “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his

Christ then states that since he overcame, he is now sitting with God in His throne. So, if we overcome, we will sit with Christ in the throne of God and be gods, having inherited “all things” and
are “partakers of the divine nature”. (see 2 Peter 1:4) We cannot comprehend how great this blessing is but as 1 John 3:2 says, “it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him”. It is important to note that we will never be equal to God because we
will always be subject to the Father and He will always be our God and we His children. (see Revelations 21:7)

Liberals aren’t very religious: Liberals are overwhelmingly either atheists or agnostics, people who don’t take their religious beliefs very seriously in the first place, or people who allow their ideology to completely subvert their religious beliefs. This is no small matter because religion is one of the great civilizing forces. That’s not to say that even sincere practitioners of a religion always do the right thing because as Rick Warren has noted, “The church is a hospital for sinners, not a hotel for saints.” However, if you take human beings with open minds, put them in a pew and expose them to “Love thy neighbour as thyself” and “Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them” long enough, it will curb their nature and make them into much better people than they otherwise would have been.
