VP Biden’s Office Apologizes for Confining Reporter in Storage Closet During Fundraiser

This is one of the more bizarre snippets to come out of the political/media axis in awhile.
The vice president’s press secretary has apologized to a local political reporter after he was kept in a storage closet during a Florida fundraiser.
Scott Powers, a reporter with the Orlando Sentinel, was relegated to the storage space during a fundraiser Wednesday for Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., apparently to prevent him from speaking to people before Vice President Biden showed up.
The Sentinel did not make a big deal about the incident when it first happened, publishing a somewhat lighthearted account on their political blog:
Not looking for sympathy here, but the life of a political reporter isn’t all champagne and canapes. Consider our man Scott Powers…
But the story took on more extended life when the Drudge Report featured it prominently with in a “flash” report:
Reporter Scott Powers was the designated “pool reporter” for the vice president’s Wednesday visit to the massive Winter Park, Fla., home of developer and philanthropist Alan Ginsburg. The veep hadn’t arrived yet but most of the 150 guests (minimum $500 donation) had. They were busy noshing on caprese crostini with oven-dried mozzarella and basil, rosemary flatbread with grapes honey and gorgonzola cheese and bacon deviled eggs, before a lunch of grilled chicken Caesar and garden vegetable wraps.
Not so for Powers. A “low-level staffer” put Powers in a storage closet and then stood guard outside the door, Powers told the DRUDGE REPORT. “When I’d stick my head out, they’d say, ‘Not yet. We’ll let you know when you can come out.’”
Biden spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander said in a statement Sunday that the decision to put Powers in the storage room was a “mistake” and that the reporter accepted her apology on Wednesday.
She said that reporters often gather in “hold rooms” when the Vice President makes appearances, but she acknowledged that the cluttered storage room wasn’t an appropriate place for Powers to wait.
“This was the unfortunate mistake of an inexperienced staffer and the vice president’s office has made sure it will never happen again,” she said.
She explained that “hold rooms” are typically provided for pool reporters covering the vice president when he speaks at private homes. In this case, Biden was speaking at the home of a wealthy developer and the reporter was told to wait in a storage closet — which Alexander said contained open space, as well as a table and chair where the reporter could work. She said the space was chosen because of its “close proximity” to the room where Biden was speaking.

Posted on March 28, 2011 at 1:16amBULLSHYT – holding reporters hostage – is a regular event – with the Obama/Soetoro THUGOCRACY.
During the 2008 presidential campaign, in June 2008, the Obama campaign set up an interview – with a POOL of reporters – to meet up with Obama on an airplane – at Dulles International Airport.
But after a TWO-HOUR wait – and a no-show, the pilot announced the doors were locked and the plane was taking off.
There is a video on YOU TUBE about it – with Robert Gibbs smirking – being entertained – with holding the reporters hostage – appeared shell-shocked – while asking questions where they were being taken – and why were they not informed about the change of plans – if obama did not want to be interviewed – and why were they not given the opportunity to get off the plane before it took off.
When there was a media frenzy over what occurred, US Senator Diane Feinstein chose to give a lame ALIBI – to obama – (phony alibi rewarded later with US taxpayer money) – by Feinstein FRAUDULENTLY claiming that Obama was at her house with Hillary Clinton having a private meeting – although the MASS of Photographs outside of Feinstein’s house – did not acquire one picture of Obozo and Clinton going in or out of Feinstein’s house – bc they were not at Feinstein’s house. Obama and Clinton were at the Bilderberg Conference.
Feinstein acquired a $25 MILLION government contract – for her husband’s company – and when her husband was caught in a “house-flipping” SCAM – w a clerk falsifying documents – as the same criminal activities that caused the housing and banking meltdowns – US Senator Diane Feinstein created another DISTRACTION – w House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – screaming about “waterboarding” – using their influence to have their lies and deceit appear as truths – by fraudulently claiming they knew nothing about enhanced interrogation techniques – waterboarding – being used on the Radical Muslim Terrorists responsible for the terrorist attacks on US soil on 9-11. It is well documented by the CIA that both Pelosi and Feinstein attended several CIA briefings wherein waterboarding was discussed.

that is why the obama/soetoro administration is still pulling these nasty games – holding a reporter hostage in a closet – to keep him from interviewing people at the fundraiser.

I’m beginning to consider the possibility that the Progressives have secretly gotten everyone in the MSM addicted to some new designer-drug “tingle-crack” that has, as exhibited by Chris Matthews, the side-effect of creating random tingling sensations in the lower extremities when anti-Capitalists speak, as well as marked docility toward Progressive ideological authority & extreme suggestibility.
Note to the MSM: Put the “tingle-crack” pipe & lighter down and step away. Just step away.
For all my fellow-Blazers that express wonder at how a reporter would allow themselves to be treated that way, you have to remember Progressives believe that Government *IS* God, so to this reporter, it would be like if a Catholic tourist at the Vatican would be told by a Bishop that he had to wait in a closet and not ask questions if he wanted an audience with the Pope.
Except that in the case of the MSM and Progressive politicians, there’s a LOT more than rings being kissed!

Posted on March 28, 2011 at 3:38pmho-hum:Scott Powers, the Florida Sun-Sentinel reporter who’s reported confinement in what was described as a closet during a fundraising event attended by Vice-President Biden, seems to be a bit surprised that he ended up at the center of a cause celebre:
I was kidnapped.
That was news to me.
My paper and I conspired to cover this up, to protect Vice President Joe Biden and his staff from charges they had imprisoned me at a fundraiser last week.
That was news to me too.
In fact, a lot of details circulating through the blogosphere — and into some mainstream media — about my coverage of Biden’s fundraising visit to a Winter Park home last Wednesday were news to me.
Here’s what Powers said actually happened:
Here’s what happened. I showed up at the private home of developer, philanthropist and political contributor Alan Ginsburg Wednesday morning to file a pool report on the visit there by Biden and U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Orlando. When I arrived I was told I would not be able to speak with any of the people at the party, and that I was to wait in a room until Biden and Nelson arrived. I went in willingly, with the understanding that I was free to leave — but if I left I’d probably have to leave the house entirely, and not get to cover the speeches.
I called it a closet, because it was stuffed with shelves, boxes, baskets and other items in storage, and it felt like a closet. The vice president’s office called it a room used for storage. It had a light, a window somewhere in the back behind the shelves full of boxes, and a few square feet of open space in the front. They set up a small table and a chair for me. They offered me food, which I declined, and brought me a bottle of water. They closed the door. I sat to wait, mistakenly thinking it would be only a few minutes. The door wasn’t locked, though every time I opened it and stepped out to see what was going on a staffer told me I couldn’t come out yet. He’d let me know.
It was more than an hour, and when I was finally led out, Ginsburg, Nelson and Biden were just getting ready to talk. I listened, recorded the speeches and took notes, then was led back to the little room to wait until they left, about 15 more minutes, before they led me to my car.
While I was in the closet, getting impatient and annoyed, I snapped a picture with my cell phone and e-mailed it to my editor, Bob Shaw, explaining that this is where I was at, and this is why I wouldn’t be filing anything about the party before the speeches. He wrote up an item and posted it, with the picture, on this blog. His post was a bit snarky. He likes snarky. So do I. I thought it was funny. The post and picture also ran in the Orlando Sentinel newspaper the next morning, along with my write-up of Biden’s speech. People told me they thought it was funny.
Then, the story got picked up by the internet, and specifically the Drudge Report, and suddenly Powers was a star and his account of the event didn’t seem to matter to anyone:
Bloggers around the country, it seems, had determined that either we had published a story on-line luridly detailing the alleged kidnapping, then later removed it, or we chose to not write about it at all. Either way, we were shilling for Biden and the Democrats.
So I talked to Joe, and he posted a decent account on Drudge. I thought that would end it, but it only opened flood gates, from other media. Some I talked to, hoping to clarify the matter. But I discovered that whatever I said was irrelevant to other bloggers and posters who concluded that I was spin-controlling, continuing the cover-up. Some called me a liar and worse. But the real vile was naturally aimed at Biden. enof said.
