Wacky & Wild: Man Hijacks Fire Dept. SUV and Chases Police Around Airport

The video you’re about to see is as nutty as the headline. Yes, you will actually see a man in a hijacked SUV chasing police around an airport. It all happened at Ireland’s Cork Airport, and yes, it does look like something out of a “Dukes of Hazard” episode.
According to the automobile website Jalopnik, the culprit is 37-year-old Edmond Stapleton, who stole two fire department vehicles at knifepoint at different points throughout the day. The video below shows his second hijacking. It also shows him multiple times narrowly missing police as he does figure eights and other driving-school-dropout maneuvers. Jalopnik explains the end result:
The chase picks up a few minutes into the encounter as police start chasing the SUV and then he starts chasing them. Eventually, a fire truck tries to help. It takes a few more minutes but eventually every police vehicle in all of Cork arrives to put him in jail.
By the way, there is a mild CONTENT WARNING for language — but that might not be surprising considering people thought that at different times throughout the chase they were going to witness someone’s death:
The Irish Times has more here.

Posted on May 27, 2011 at 4:10pmwhen a miscreant (especially here in the US) takes his escape atempt to “public danger, possible serious injury or death”, it should be legalized to use DEADLY FORCE to end it. and these 5 mph pursuits make the cops look like the fools that stupid regulations make them.

Posted on May 27, 2011 at 3:45pmI realize this happened in Ireland, but I guess this means that TSA will now have to do mandatory cavity searches of EVERYONE here in the states to make sure we don‘t have the keys to the airport’s fire department SUVs stuck up our rear end.
Wait for it. The DHS and DoJ will be making the announcement in

Posted on May 27, 2011 at 3:35pmI’m surprised none of those cops had the sense to get right in front of that car immediately. Poor police work if you ask me. Cops here in Tempe, AZ would have had those guys face down on the concrete about 2 minutes after this started…

Posted on May 27, 2011 at 3:52pmNope! Not your ex-husband! BHO ditched “the beast” and went back to Ireland to hi-jack a couple of their SUVs. Payback for his “beast” getting hung up on that Irish road. BHO, still hung-over from all that Irish Guinness, just couldn’t find his way out of the airport. :)

Posted on May 27, 2011 at 7:49pmThere needs to be some type of knife control. If I lived there I would be suing the pants off of the manufacturer of the knife, the people who made the steel for the blade, and of course the company responsible for making the handle. It couldn‘t be this guys fault cause I’m sure he had a bad childhood and never got to play in the sandbox with the other kids.
