Wait. Did Chris Matthews Just Take Credit for Michele Bachmann’s Success?

Welcome to the delusional mind of Chris Matthews.
On Hardball today, Matthews said that if Michele Bachmann runs for president, she has a good shot at winning the Iowa caucus. She could even go all the way to win the GOP nomination, Matthews suggested. After all, he notes smugly, Bachmann will appeal to the people “in the yahoo wing of the Republican party” who are “anti-intellectual.”
He also observed, “We created her here. Michele Bachmann,” referring to an older Bachmann appearance on Hardball.

The lefty elites only think that people who go to the Ivy League colleges – probably preferably Harvard in the Northeast– and are Democrats/liberals are the only ones with any brains and able to run the country (their way). They have much hatred for the rest of us..that‘s why they believe in Big Govn’t because it’s needed to take care & control all the stupid people.
Report Post »Yes, I wouldn’t be surprised if she does run — but I also like Palin and I wouldn’t want them both running at the same time. They’re both cut from the same cloth & both are praying about it and won’t do it unless they think God wants them to & no one else they think would be as good. So….we’ll see…but I do think our first woman President is on the way in the next couple of elections & I also won‘t be surprised if Obama doesn’t end up running as planned & Hillary does.

She is going to have to try a little bit harder than that.

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 9:19pmUG Man, I would give her a pass on the Lexington and Concord thing. All politicians (actually, all people) mis-speak occasionally. You can find plenty of examples from both parties. It’s a non-issue and she did correct herself the next day. However, I did not know about the deficit/debt thing. That is pretty basic and the debt is her issue. No way she, or any congressman, should get that wrong. (Again, maybe a mis-speak, but not consistently)
I think the commentators are wrong. No way she wins Iowa. I am an Iowa Republican and I just don’t see it. I do like her, but as a presidential candidate, the problem I see with her is she just sticks to talking points. Iowa voters want a lot more than that. The candidates are here long enough that we get to see beyond the national news reporting. We get to see their temperament. I could see Howard Dean imploding weeks before the scream. I saw the support growing for Obama over Secretary Clinton when the national media was still coronating Hillary.
Report Post »Snidely
Posted on April 5, 2011 at 9:35pmOK, UG, I found that segment an watched it. She correctly spoke about the deficit early in the interview, and then used the term deficit when she should have said debt later in the interview. I don’t think that amounts to a lack of knowledge, it was mis-speaking. (You know, like 57 states. I gave BHO a pass on that one, too.)

Posted on April 5, 2011 at 10:29pm@ 82dAirborne, I’d like for you reflect some.
I’m a liberal and I think Chris Matthews is an idiot. But I point something out in your thinking. First you say, “Chris and those like him actually believe their own hallucinations.” Frankly I doubt Chris Matthews is hallucinating. but okay, that’s hyperbole. That’s fair, or at least accepted in political conversation.
But at that point you go over the edge of objectivity and into paranoia. You say “they” will do anything for power and “they” view us as “the enemy.”
At this point in your post, who does “they” refer to? Chris Matthews viewers? It can”t be that because you don‘t don’t know how many viewers agree with him. No, at that point airborne, you’ve gone into the world into Overgeneralization World. “All of THEM blame Bush.“ ”They” believe this, or that. “They” won’t do this or that.
82airborne, when you start talking about “they” as a monolithic group whose goal is to deprive you in some way, you need think a little more deeply. Really, “they” aren’t out to get you. You’re defining “they” in your own mind.

The “they” & “the us” I referred to is the liberals and conservatives. Of course not ALL of either group. I should have been more specific. But I am not sure how to do that. All I have to go on is what I see, hear, read and have experienced. As a whole I believe liberalism is dangerous. There are great liberals I’m sure. Just as there are some evil conservatives.
I absolutely define “they” in my own mind. You too must define some things in your own mind. I’m not so much paranoid as I am a realist & pragmatic. I think Chris and folks who believe as he does are “they” and antithetical to the spirit of our country. I don’t think you are a zombie nor do you drink the Kool-Aid. Neither do I. You & I just really, really, really disagree on most things. At least that’s what I gather from your posts.
I want the country to go back to the constitution as it was written and adopted. There is no mention of health care, education, the E.P.A………….. And so on. The government should be the LAST resort for anything beyond the duties laid out in the founding documents. For many years administrations both (D) & (R) have failed in the basics. We as a nation can’t continue down this road forever.
I want secure borders, a decent legal immigration policy, a strong national defense and a balanced budget. I think extremist Muslims present a clear and present danger to all of us. Both major political parties have failed us. I was never a Republican. Just a conservative. However I am now a proud member of the Tea Party Movement. Our current President wants to “Fundamentally Change” the country. I want us to get back to the “Fundamentals.”

JZS, you say your a liberal and I’m sure you know the root of the word “liberal” lies in the Latin “liber,” meaning free. In that sense I’m a liberal also. But where is freedom heading with this massive corrupt and wasteful federal government? I’m talking both parties. They cannot be anything but corrupt and wasteful with this much power and money flowing through their hands. If we get back to the constitutional limits no one has to worry as much about a right agenda or a left agenda at the federal level. That would be sweet.

Hence why the term “libertarian” had to be invented to describe hands-off, limited government.
Now, we have to use the term “classical liberal” do describe the old meaning of “liberal”.
