‘Walk the Hell Out!’ Professor Goes on Epic Rant After Student Yawns

It’s probably a given that students these days are much more relaxed than in days past. But did one student at Cornell cross the line? This professor thinks so. Watch him go on a rant when he hears a student audibly yawn. The “walk the hell out” part comes about 3/4 of the way through, after he gets on a roll:

Fundamentals to IT? Yeah, I would yawn, talk about wasting my time, yet they more than likely force students to take it, so yes, your class is a bore, its a money drain, its a time sink and your job is pointless…

    Deal with it.

A perfect example on how to turn a whole class off. The majority also probably agreed that the yawner was a jerk. But the teacher totally blew the chance to bring the class solidly on board. Instead his immature rant took the attention off the yawner and replaced himself as the jerk of the moment. Progressives are too humorless and egotistical to be able to handle that type of situation in a winning way. With humor dude.

I am not a fan, to say the least, of commie professors that have infected our school system, but I have to admit I am on the teachers side on this one. If a kid has to yawn, that is one thing, but an exaggerated fake yawn is quite something else: the former is a bodily function, that latter is intended as an insult to the teacher and status signal to other kids that “I am too cool for school.”

Sure, we need to ferret out the commies in our universities and elsewhere, but we also need to teach our brats some manners.

I used to teach English to Engineering students at 8am on Friday mornings. I found slamming a desk against a wall or climbing on my desk and yelling stopped the audible snores for at least a few moments. :-)

I disagree with you a little bit. On the one hand people should always show others respect until they show that they do not deserve it, and in K-12 students should show teachers respect in a boss-employee type relationship. However, at the college level the rules change. You are no longer being given education by others, you are paying for it. Also, when you’re in college chances are you are an adult. At the college level your professors are no different from any other individual you may hire to perform a service for you. You would not pay $100 and allow a plumber to treat you like dirt so why should you pay $1000 for a 3 credit class and allow the professor to treat you like dirt?

Did you fall asleep in English class? You say your teachers “don’t say nothing”. That’s a double negative implying that your teachers do say something. Don’t misunderstand me. I worked graveyards to get through engineering school and dozed off at times. But, I made sure my professors knew my situation and I certainly didn’t yawn so loud that the instructor could hear me all the way in the back of the room. The student was rude and wrong to do that. I don’t blame the professor.

These are adults paying for your service, you jerk. If you go off on something like an audible yawn with your boring self, then perhaps you need anger management therapy.

And perhaps, the kid is tired from staying up late studying, or even better, you’re probably boring. Perceived rudeness doesn‘t give you the right to stop the class for the self stated ’220 other people’. They’re paying customers too.

Get over yourself. You’re not that important.

I do not blame him one bit and other than using the word “hell” once I think he handled it appropriately. Not only is this college level, but it is Cornell University which is a big school. It is time to grow up and act like a professional. Imagine doing the same in a board meeting. I do think i would have left out the “speak to me anonymously and turn him” comment but other than that I do not think he spazzed out and he picked right back up with the lecture. Kids just aren’t taught manners anymore (neither are most of their parents) and without religion in the schools, most don’t learn respect for other people.

As a fat man with sleep apnea and enlarged tonsils, I take umbrage with those people who assume the yawn was fake.

I often yawn audibly in order to get oxegen into my lungs because I tend to stop breathing for short periods. I also tend to cough frequently. If I were in this class I’d have to stand up to this teacher to tell him “Sir, I am doing it in order to breath and no die. Is that okay with you?”
