Want 5% Off Your Restaurant Bill? This Place Will Give It to You If You Leave Your Phone

Los Angeles Restaurant Gives Patrons Discount If They Dont Use Their Cellphone at the Table

Next time you sit down at a restaurant, take a look around you. How many patrons are talking, texting or playing on their phones?

One Los Angeles restaurant is hoping to change this increasing trend by offering customers a discount if they agree to check their phone at the door. Southern California Public Radio reports the owner and chef of Eva Restaurant, Mark Gold, saying that the incentive is not because phones are disruptive in a dining setting but because “Eva is home, and we want to create that environment of home.”

“It’s about two people sitting together and just connecting, without the distraction of a phone, and we’re trying to create an ambiance where you come in and really enjoy the experience and the food and the company.”

How has the deal been received at the restaurant so far? SCPR reports Gold saying a little less than half of customers have parted with their beloved phone.

“I think once the server approaches the table and they’re presented with the offer, they like the idea of actually talking to each other again,” he said to SCPR.

Listen to Gold’s interview here.

Anyone can extract virtually ALL the data in your phone within seconds, using a widely available tool. It’s already being used by police in some US states to ROUTINELY extract data in real-time at even traffic stops.

The handheld tool, BYPASSES any password no matter how complicated and trigger a total memory dump. It extracts data from your phone’s phonebook, emails, browser history, media files (photos, videos, and audio), stored personal notes and schedules, stored text messages, SIM card, etc.

The tools are compatible with and can extract data from many manufacturer’s cellphones.

All someone needs is a minute with your phone and they have it ALL.

I don’t believe anyone asks that you hand your cell phone over. Just leave it locked in your glove compartment or in your trunk. People HAVE become sooooo rude. It doesn’t seem to matter where you are….JUST PLAIN RUDE! As far as an emergency, I remember when my son was little and with a baby sitter while out for the evening—the sitter knew where I was and had the phone number (landline) for an emegency..I also called every hour to check how things were going. Aahhh, the old days. A little common sense and a LOTof courtesy still go a long way. Beside, I reall don’t need to know your private business.

He should come up with a better metaphor. Most people still have and use their cell phones at home.

There are other places that require you to check in your cell phone – mostly strip clubs. So maybe the owner really lives at a strip club and he wants his patrons to get naked. lol.

Paragraph 2 contains the terms “Los Angeles” and “we want to create that environment of home”. I stopped reading at that point.

LA lives in a fantasy land. So is most of Kalifornia as far as I can tell.

As a small business owner (for the time being), I keep a phone on constantly. I turn it off when at 6:00 PM sharp, and off on weekends. People can leave a message if it’s that important, or they can EMAIL ME! I don’t need the hassles of Texting, Apps, Tweeting, and my family doesn’t use this. You have no idea how many phone companies can’t fatham that we love our flip phones, and just don’t want all the new technology. Why? Because they can’t make MONEY OFF US! Unlike Obama, we have a budget…

Neat idea, but I think it is illegal in the US to jam FCC approved signals.

I like the idea, I have a phone for one purpose talking or texting friends and family, I don’t have or want all that other crap. I have one complaint though what if the babysitter needs to get a hold of you over a situation at home? It is rude and makes no sense to go out on a date all the while talking or texting someone else.

When in a public place, never let anything that has personal info out of your sight, including credit cards. I hate hand held devices. It would be simple just to leave them at home, and pay cash for service. For those who do not know the meaning of “cash”, allow me….it’s money, legal tender , mullah, dinero, etc., etc. For anyone who still don’t get it……..just Google it !

Actually what they are trying to do is hack peoples phone while they eating. What a great scam, and I bet the food is full of calories, sugar, and salt. And these owners are probably making a PROFIT, evil, evil, vile, capitalist. And they didn’t build that, they had help, if it wasn’t for Obama making everybody hungry by eating all that junk food, then having his wife make us loose our lunch, these horrible, mean, restaurant owners wouldn’t have customers.

I can’t wait for Joe Biden to show up and not be let in, then these mean people will get theirs.

This is Nancy Pelosi, and I am a start raving wench, who wants all businesses in California to pay me money, and make me Queen.

And I approve of Botox. Off with their heads.

      Mr. Butcher,
I am not under 35 but not far away, I am a very tech savvy guy, and I too am in the ranks of no cell phone. It was funny, a early 20 something once asked me for my cell phone number. I told him I don’t have one, and here is my land line. I about laughed when he asked “whats a land line?”

I think it’s a great idea. There are a lot of public venues where inconciderate people talking loudly on their phones annoys me. It’s a free country and their phone, however, I hope this idea catches on, it would be a pleasant change to sit in a restaraunt and enjoy a nice meal with pleasant conversation without being subjected to somebody elses phone conversation because they talk so loudly on their phone with no consideration of other people. Do they have a right to talk on their phone? Yes. Do they need to scream? No. Should they show a little consideration to the people around them? Yes. Please excuse me for my rant. I feel better now. Thank you!!!!!!

That’s discrimination, I want to sue! I’m entitled to have my phone on me at all times /sarc

If you have a phone you’re worried about being hacked in the 30-45 minute time frame to enjoy a meal then maybe a better password/phone lock is a better option. Just sayin’ :)
