Want to Hear About The ‘Nine Harbingers’ One Author Claims Will Predict America’s Future?

On Tuesday evening, Glenn Beck hosted Jonathan Cahn, author of the provocative book, “The Harbinger,“ to discuss what is being called a work ”framed in fiction“ but based on ”fact.“ The premise of the book is that an ancient mystery harbors ”the secret of America’s future” and offers the world a a precognition of events that have recently come to pass. The book has become controversial for its claims.
Cahn, Senior Pastor and Messianic Rabbi of the the Jerusalem Center, Beth Israel, frequently appears on radio and television broadcasts around the country. According to his bio, his teachings are “widely known for revealing the deep mysteries of God’s word and for the restoring of the new covenant message to its original biblically Jewish richness and power.”
The ancient mystery, according to Cahn, explains everything from the September 11 attacks to the financial collapse of 2008 and beyond. The author posits that God is sending the U.S. a “prophetic message” of what is yet to come, just as he did once in ancient Israel. Thus, according to the book, these same “Nine Harbingers” are now manifesting themselves here on U.S. soil.
“The scary thing is these same nine harbingers are happening on American soil,” Cahn told Beck during the interview.
According to the book’s description, The Harbinger’s 3,000 year-old mystery has managed to accurately foretell recent American events “down to the exact days” including the 2008 stock market collapse. The revelations, which the author maintains are completely factual, are woven through a fictional narrative “the reader will find hard to put down.”
The description continues:
The Harbinger opens with the appearance of a man burdened with a message he has received from a mysterious figure called The Prophet. The Prophet has given him nine seals, each containing a message about America s future. As he tells of his encounters with the Prophet, from a skyscraper in New York City, to a rural mountaintop, to Capitol Hill, to Ground Zero, the mystery behind each seal is revealed.
The author maintains that the same “warning patterns” were evident in ancient Israel and are now reproducing themselves in modern-day America. The mystery comprises nine Harbingers, or omens, which include:
- The Breach: The author posits that, because the U.S. was founded on “God’s word,” like Israel, we are blessed more than other nations. Conversely, if the populace turns away from God, (i.e. removing signs of God and prayer from public life) then, according to Cahn, the nation leaves itself vulnerable to losing those blessings.
- The Sign of a Terrorist: In this harbinger, the author claims that Israel was attacked by Assyrians, of which al-Qaeda is a disciple. The book paints this common thread as a repeating pattern.
- Fallen Bricks: This prophesy of course refers to the 9/11 attacks and symbolize the buildings which fell to ruin.
- The Tower: This symbol is meant to represent the verse from Isaiah: “we will rebuild.” Like Israel rebuilt the Second Temple, so, too will America grow stronger again.
- Gazit Stone: Hewn translates to “gazit” in Hebrew. This harbinger is meant to symbolize the 20-ton quarried rock that was brought to Ground Zero. A ceremony took place over the rock in which Governor Pataki pronounced: ”Today, we, the heirs of that revolutionary spirit of defiance, lay this cornerstone and unmistakably signal to the world the unwavering strength of this nation, and our resolve to fight for freedom.”
- Sycamore: There is of course the Sycamore of Israel, which the book likens to the Sycamore struck and fallen at the corner of Ground Zero. According to the book, it also refers to the Isaiah 9:10 — “The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycamores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.”
- Erez Tree: The Erez, or Cedar, is stronger still. The book reveals that in November 2003 a crane hovering above Ground Zero lowered a Cedar tree into the corner space where the orignal Sycamore had been struck down. The Erez bears prominence in scriptures as a “tree of hope.“ A ceremony was conducted in the spirit of ”human defiance” after the new Erez was planted, but Cahn believes the participants were unaware of the significance.
- The Utterance: Or the “the vow”
- The Prophecy: This is ultimately what will set America’s course
Thus, according to The Harbinger, just as ancient Israel was attacked by the first “terrorists” and its walls fell down and its Sycamores were uprooted, so, too was America attacked, and its Sycamore uprooted.
Beck noted that what he finds amazing is that one does not need to be a scholar to find out if the book is prophecy or not. Rather, all one needs to do, according to Beck, is determine whether the message rings true.
“The message rings true,” he said.
Beck, while not endorsing the book’s prophetic claims, appreciated the broader message the author attempts to deliver and believes The Harbinger brings an important message people of all walks could benefit from.

Posted on June 27, 2012 at 8:25amFriends, the Asyrians were sent by God to chastise the Israelites into repentance and a turning back to Him. Instead, they were defiant and in their pride ignored the warning and chose to rebuild/replace in their own strength and in so doing pronounce judgement on themselves-an were later destroyed. After 9/11 various US leaders unknowingly pronounced this same judgement on America.

Posted on June 27, 2012 at 8:27amActually, you never read the Constitution or the Bill of Rights, there is no mention of the Creator in either. The Declaration of Independance is a call to arms that uses flowery language to convince men to commit treason against the Crown, so it makes sense that Jefferson would invoke a higher authority than the Crown to justify rebellion.
“In the Year of our Lord” was not religious but standard writing convention at the time for expressing the year. We still use it, the latin translation is Anno Domini (A.D.).
As for our laws, do not have one foundation, the earlier Code of Hammurabi with the notion of punishment fitting the crime is more of an influence on American law, as are the Statutes of Rome and the thinking of Greece.
YOu need to read books other than the Bible and Barton’s pseudo history.

Posted on June 27, 2012 at 12:13pm@ENCIMON & @MrButcher – so in other words, any actual mention of God by the founders (such as in Thomas Paine‘s ’Common Sense’) in all their writings is just for the purposes of justifying the revolution to the riff-raff bible-thumping simpleton’s of society and does not actually show that the founders of the country believed in God (even though several signers of the Consitution were ministers or pastors). Is that your point of view?

So…according to this author, al’Qaeda, which subscribes to a radicalized version of Sunni Islam is somehow the disciples of an empire that fell over 2600 years ago and did not believe in anything resembling Islam.
What utter nonsense.
If this prophecy is so accurate, why is it he cannot predict coming events, only in retrospect?

And it is not America that I see in his words. My first impression as I looked at his scribbled writing is that, “OMG…he’s not talking about America. He’s talking about the caliphate — “we remember” the defeat of the caliphate, “we will rebuild” the caliphate, and the caliphate will “come back stronger”. Lets examine just one of the harbingers for proof. The fallen sycamore tree did in fact fall at ground zero. But that is only part of the story. This tree fell within feet of St. Paul’s Chapel, at the corner of Ground Zero, barely missing the Chapel. What is significant about this Chapel? It is the very location where newly inaugurated, President Washington and Congress consecrated the United States to the Holy Trinity , on April 30, 1789. The old sycamore tree stood sentinel at this solemn ceremony which lasted several hours that day over 200 years ago. There is only one other nation that has been dedicated to God in such a manner at its inception…..Israel !

Posted on June 26, 2012 at 8:44pmCahn puts some pretty strained constructions on the word “terrorism.” The Assyrians struck terror into the hearts of their enemies, but they were a state with a regular conscript army and a foreign-military policy, not small gangs of criminals carrying out small-scale attacks. They mounted full-scale military invasions, carried out sieges, fought pitched battles, took prisoners and sometimes negotiated temporary peaces. Take away the parallel between Assyria and latter-day jihadists and the whole case becomes a little flimsy, wouldn’t you say?

There is nothing in the islamic texts that suggest it is any different (in terms of it being a “religion” or not) than the Bible. They both consist of stories talking about god, reference the same messiahs/prophets, tell stories of miracles, lay down laws/commandments to live by, etc. Just because Islam has been more successful in politicizing its texts‘ commandments doesn’t make it a “political ideology”.

No other nation had the privilege they were blessed with neither had God revealed himself to the pagan nations like he did with Israel. In fact many nations stood as the antithesis of God’s people. Entire nations were to be completely destroyed leaving no living citizens such as the Amalekites who always represented the enemies of God.

Posted on June 26, 2012 at 8:02pmFirst off, America was NOT founded on “god’s word.” So the very premise of step 1, the Breach, is flawed. Matthew 6:34 should make any conservative shudder, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”—That sounds like Obama’s logic on debt and the economy.
“Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” is antithetical to the core of Christianity. Liberty is not a word found in the bible (at least not the original translations) and “pursuit of happiness” clearly runs afoul of the protestant work-ethic and chastity.
Christianity does not preach some great existential freedom that America’s founding represents. It preaches blind faith in Jesus Christ and complete submission to the deity.
Bottom line: SUBMISSION is not freedom!

The issue is what you are obedient to. If its true, then you will find that, by obedience, you will “magically” have more options available to you than you would otherwise. Professional race car drivers are an even better example. The vehicles they drive are capable of amazing feats, but only by those most knowledgeable and obedient to the laws of physics, as determined by “nature’s God”. Science and religion appear to be mutually exclusive only because of our limited understadnign of both. IMHO
The point is, we have a nature and there is a real way that things work. NO superstition. No hocus pocus. Not even “supernatural”, because none of God’s truth or power is outside of “nature”, as we understand it. Rather, our limited understanding of what comprises it, and what is possible by it, is severely limited by our myopic perception of reality. You know, 100 years ago, people seeing a TV might call it “demons in a box”. Even so, would they be wrong? Maybe not, if they saw say MSNBC, CNN, Bill Maher, Farakkhan, Obamas, Pelosi, etc….
I get your passion, but the harshness won’t even win an ear, much less change a mind. Same applies to the endless “believers in name only” who love to condemn and come off just as bad. That is, unless it is somehow better to “win” all alone over being heard by many…

They owe they notions of freedom and liberty to the writings of Locke, Hume and Kant, not Mark, Matthew and Luke. The 1st Commandment and 1st Amendment are in conflict. While the Commandment demands worship to one God, the Amendment enshrines the right of the individual to worship which ever God he desires. No where does the Bible talk of the freedom of speech, of the press, to question the King or leaders.

That is not what they are. Jesus was a Jew, do you think he was “acting”?
Any Christian who makes fun of the Messianic Jews would probably be well-served to go figure out what day the sabbath occurs on, the actual, real, unrefutable, sabbath, and perhaps ponder the reminder in the freakin’ ten commandments about honoring the sabbath and keeping it holy.
God ordered us to keep the sabbath holy, and Jesus said specifically that he did not come to take away from the law, but to add to it. It’s as clear as day, yet most Christians have abominated their religion with false sabbaths, all because some Roman emperor 1000 years ago decided he wanted all the pagans and christians to take the same day off work, hence, we got the pagan day, the “sun” day.
It is amazing how pervasive and powerful the institutional imperative is.

Posted on June 26, 2012 at 7:46pmI have a question somewhat related to the article. My question is what do Christians think about Messianic Judaism? A majority of followers of Messianic Judaism are gentiles (Non-Jewish) and basically it is Christianity and has no relation with Judaism. I would like to know how Christians view these people who try to act Jewish in other to convert Jews to Christianity.

Posted on June 26, 2012 at 7:56pmI am a messianic jew. the jewish half of my family thinks I am nuts they are obama voters and I am a traitor of sorts for following Christ. I adhere to the traditions of my Jewish faith while acknowledging Christ crucified for all. It is being able to see the fulfillment of the many feasts from the old testament which in my opinion is why so many Christians have a great deal of interest in Messianic Judaism it reveals more about their faith a deeper level. Many churches put all the focus on the new testament and not much on the old, it can be very enlightening but ti answer your question this Jew is not approved of but the secular jews and has been alienated sort of for my faith no big deal but it is taboo to my relatives. It is 100% the fulfillment of Judaism that is where you are mistaken.

Posted on June 26, 2012 at 8:01pmI disagree with your last sentence. Some adherents of Messianic Judaism are ethnically Jewish, and many of them argue that the movement is a sect of Judaism. Jewish organizations, and the Supreme Court of Israel (regarding the Law of Return), have rejected this claim, and instead consider Messianic Judaism to be a form of Christianity. From 2003 to 2007, the movement grew from 150 Messianic houses of worship in the United States to as many as 438, with over 100 in Israel and more worldwide; congregations are often affiliated with larger Messianic organizations or alliances. In 2008, the movement was reported to have between 6,000 and 15,000 members in Israel and 250,000 in the United States. I don’t know of anyone “acting Jewish” to convert anyone. As for what do Christians think about it? If you believe in Jesus and what he did/is/stands for, its Christianity. Just a different sect, so I’m all for it. I can’t speak for ALL Christians, of course, but there is my opinion anyway.

Posted on June 26, 2012 at 8:04pmChristianity is composed of Sects with various Theologies, so there is No One Answer… but I will give you my answer.
The Sacrifice of Isaac has halted… to be completed in Joshua, known as Christ; The entire Old Testament is Prophecy… Fulfilled in the New Testament; The Laws of the Old… were completed in the Sacrifice upon the Cross, and the New Law given as Golden Rule with a New Covenant. NOTHING OF JUDAISM survives in True Christianity!

Posted on June 26, 2012 at 8:07pmWOW!!! You really ask some tough questions. It’s like asking, “How do you get rid of the Fuller Brush Man when he tries to sell you a brush”. I’ll have to get back to you on that one.

Posted on June 26, 2012 at 8:14pmStill it is Christianity. When I mentioned that there non-Jews who act Jewish in order to convert Jews to Christianity are members of missionary groups who call themselves Messianic, Jews for Jesus, or whatever. There are all kinds of groups out there. The threat is real that Christians are wanting to convert the Jews and Christianity is very different from traditional Judaism. Jesus is not the Messiah or God. He is a Christian and Islamic figure who never fulfilled the requirements to the be the Messiah or was a prophet. The verses that Christians speak of prophesying Jesus are taken out of context.

Posted on June 26, 2012 at 8:37pm@LUKERW: How does relate to the promised Messiah or the Messianic age? In the bible it mentions the Messiah will fulfill the requirements right out and usher in the Messianic age. To go by what Christians and Muslims say about Jesus being the Messiah, ascending to heaven or wherever he is and that his return will usher in the Messianic age as promised. This is ridiculous because it goes against what the bible originally says. http://www.jewsforjudaism.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=165:what-are-the-criteria-that-judaism-has-established-about-the-messiah&catid=68:the-jewish-messiah&Itemid=481
