Want to Join a Tactical Wild Hog Hunt? Meet This Group of Texans

Meet the Tactical Hog Control Hunting Group in TexasMany consider feral pigs a menace to farmers and their communities across the United States, but a number of high-tech hunters are taking a Commando-style approach to controlling the beasts.

Equipped with gear more befitting a black ops mission than a hunting expedition, a growing group of sportsmen use modern tactical firearms and gear to track and kill wily feral pigs.

The Wall Street Journal reported today on the first of these anti-hog outfitters in Texas called Tactical Hog Control. The equipment listed on their website reads like a page from a Tom Clancy novel: thermal imaging, nightvision goggles, and AR-15 rifles with laser sights, all utilized to track and kill a species of pig. Of the hunting guide’s history and basic methods of operation, the journal writes that:

“Tactical Hog Control, started in 2009 by Texas ranchers Clark Osborne and Mr. Dreher, is among a handful of next-generation outfitters across the South offering a new style of hog hunting designed to appeal to hunters’ inner commando. Each client on a nocturnal hunt with the two men suits up with roughly $40,000 of military-grade gear, including semiautomatic rifles like the DPMS AR-10. The men prowl bumpy pastures and farmland in off-road vehicles bristling with gun racks and infrared headlights.”

Meet the Tactical Hog Control Hunting Group in TexasBut the hunter’s prey is also formidable. Feral pigs — also called ‘razorbacks’ or wild boars — average about 150 pounds. One monster shot in Alabama, however, weighed over 1,000 lbs. Estimated to number a few million animals across the U.S., the pigs voraciously eat crops, are considered a major threat to livestock, and are known to carry a wide variety of diseases.

Of course, the campaign to limit the feral pig population is not without its detractors. Some environmentalists and activists believe the anti-pig sentiment have been used in part to justify the loose hunting laws on the animals  Fox News reported back in February that Don Anthony, of the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida wanted state lawmakers to:

“Leave them alone or find a way to neuter them to keep their population down…we should be used to them by now. Killing them is barbaric and unnecessary.”

At present, the laws in many states are very favorable for hunting these animals, and public sentiment in Texas appears to favor continued attempts to cull the feral hog population.

      Texas aint the only place to tactically smoke the old root eater.

      Come down to my neck of the woods, and you can do the same in south central Georgia. Retired Master Sergeant Rod Pinkston runs an outstanding outfit that helps the local farmers rid themselves of the pesky hogs. Rod is an outstanding fellow, and has thermal hog hunting down to a science. I used to shoot skeet with him when he was at Fort Benning.

      They also forget to mention that wild hogs are dangerous to humans.
      Lived in TN for a few years, whenever hikers got lost in the Smoky Mountain Natl park there was always a large rescue effort within the first 24 hours, ESPECIALLY if the missing party had children. Why? Well among other things it was because of the wild hogs. If hogs get the scent of blood they go CRAZY! Wild hogs are dangerous. Every wild hog hunter I know always carry a sidearm with them because they are so dangerous.

    I, my son, my brother, and his son are going to Tennessee for a hunt in October. Hogs are omnivores which means they also eat meat. They are known to kill fawns (baby deer), calves, birds, and have attacked people. Their population is growing at an uncontrolled rate and they are appearing in states where they have never been seen before. To somehow believe that all that needs to be done is to start a program where the government captures, neuters, then releases them is naive if not outright stupid.

Pretend it is some old person who is going to cost the government healthcare system a lot to keep alive, then it won’t bother you. These Godless lefties can’t accept the facts of the life and death cycle on the earth. It is the way God made it. Animals live, then they die, then they get eaten. I think the Godless left can‘t deal with reality because they can’t deal with their own death. Funny, they see no meaning to life but can’t deal with death. Someday even the earth and sun will be gone. Deal with that you stupid liberals.

But for them to clean hog they have to shut down deer processing to do it, then facility has to be re-sterilized before continuing with deer.

    Environmentalists have no idea what these hogs do to fields and fencing, and how difficult they are to hunt, they are like ghosts in the night and do not hit one in your car, they will do more damage than a deer or an elk, I know. They also migrate as they feed and not many fences are able to stand in their way. The ‘sweety do gooders’ need to find something that they know something about and get the hell out of other people’s business. It is not loose hunting laws, it is LOOSE feral hogs, like a ‘flash mob’ only more intelligent. ID-10Ts
    Suggestion: Catch all the feral hogs and ship them to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq and cut them loose and problem solved and you won’t be able to recognize the poppy fields in a few months.

EVERYBODY tried to tell them what the Feral Hogs would do to their Golf Course, but Oh No they would “Handle” it. WE the “Bumpkins” just didn’t appreciate what Modern Technology was capable of handling nowadays. Well the back 9 was summarily “Re-Taken” by the hogs, the front 9 only gets partially raided, since it is mostly next to the highway and the constant traffic spooks the hogs. But it’s been a hoot watching this thing go broke a half dozen times now, and be bought out over and over again, by new sets of “Metro-Sexual” Experts that think they can beat the hogs.

      The article states that there a “Few Million” nationwide. What a joke!! The Texas Game and Wildlife folks said there were 2 million in Texas last year and now they peg it at 3 million, JUST in Texas, where, WE DO KILL them by the droves, with out MERCY. 70lb sow is the best to eat. Shoats can go straight on the grill or smoked with apple wood. If you get a boar thats got some age on him you can blanche him. Skin or scrape him (you can burn the hair off too with those propane torches) put him in an icechest and cover with ice. Next day pour off the water and re-ice. Do this for a week and it will blanche out the blood and hormones from the meat and make it taste better.

      Here we catch small male hogs and cut their testes off and release them back into the wild. Does two things, 1)Population control and 2)Taste better when they get bigger without the testosterone.

      If you catch a big one then you can pin him and cornfeed it. Get ready to slaughter it. The 3 days prior to the slaughter feed him nothing but beer, old bread and old milk, he will love it and he will fatten up nicely.

    Even Animal Planet says they are a danger to people, are breeding rapidly, and needed to be culled every year. I think they should capture a few of the meanest ones and put them in Don Anthony’s back yard.

      Right on the Money!! But we have been dicussing a potential dilema here in Texas lately. The Ferals will eat ANYTHING, so sometimes they beat the Buzzards and Coyotes to the punch, suppose they get to the Communist Corpses first as well. Can COMMUNISM be transmitted to Normal Human Beings by eating an animal that has previously eaten a Dead COMMUNST?

    Hey all you tree-hugging Bambi lovers. These are not a native species. They are called FERAL Hogs because they are escapees from the farm. They are the decendants of domestic pigs that early farmers and ranchers allowed to range free and they were HARVESTED as needed for FOOD. They are not endangered, they are not(unfortunately) rare on their home range and they are very destructive if allowed to continue breeding unchecked. Stay safe in your suburban home, continue to get your meat from the store wrapped in cellophane and leave the rest of us alone…..Just sayin’

      @BigJay
      You are right on target (best target is right behind their ear…that way they don’t run at all). Feral hogs are very invasive and rapidly multiply (a sow can have 2 litters of over 8 piggies) each year. They do terrible damage to crops and crowd out all the native species of animals and plants. You wacko animal lovers SHOULD want them deader than a hammer for all the damage they do.

      And besides, when you pop one of the little piggies and smoke it for about 12 hours you have about the best eating you are going to find. You hear me pigs…Don’t Mess with Texas

      also, watch Monster Quest. Domestic Hogs can get to be a thousand (1000) lbs or more.
      normal “wild” hogs never get that big, we have been genetically selecting the largest pigs for so long, that our domestic pigs get HUGE.

      @BIGJAYINPA
      My Brother spends a lot of money on fence repairs because of these feral hogs. They are intelligent and stealth and are probably one of the most difficult animals in North America to hunt. My wife is an environmental biologist and understands and is amazed at the ENVIRONMENTAL damage these pigs do to pastures and fields. The people b!tching about hunting them are not environmentalist, the are pc and 2nd amendment ‘attack dogs’ and could care less about our country. Never let a crisis go to waste.
      God Bless

      I hunted true wild boar when I was in Germany. These things take a lot of killing, you don’t hug them or play with them, but they can be real good eating when cooked properly. It is a little trickier than cooking store-bought pork….Just sayin’

    The animal rights people are too funny. Find a way to neuter them. Maybe we could spend trillions of dolars to give them sex education courses. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnX8Z713U0M

      Couldn’t agree more. Sterilizing animal rights activists sounds like good, ethical medicine and
      politics to me.

      I’ve got a better idea- let’s neuter the enviro-weenies instead.
