Aerial ‘Shadowhawk’ Police Drones Can Now Deploy Tasers & Tear Gas

“Drones are coming to America to a police department near you.”

Shadowhawk Drone Could Gaining Popularity with Police Departments | Taser Tear Gas | ACLU | Catherine Crump

That’s the initial assessment of Catherine Crump, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union, who narrates part of a short video clip that explores the Shadowhawk drone and its implications for domestic law enforcement here in the U.S.

The technology is useful, but poses significant privacy risks.”Drones have very powerful cameras attached to them,” Crump says, “they can see a lot more than the naked eye.” In fact, they can even see through walls with FLIR thermal imaging technology.

Crump believes one of the most alarming prospects is that police drones won’t just have cameras on them, but will also be armed with non-lethal weapons. As can be seen in these photos from Vanguard Defense Industries, the Shadowhawk platform is sturdy enough to be fitted with a variety of “less lethal” munitions.

Below is the video with some explanation of the drone’s implications for the U.S. Homeland, courtesy of The Daily:

Randy McDaniel, Chief Deputy of the Montgomery County, Texas Sheriff’s Office, also weighs in on the Shadowhawk drones in the clip. “We were able to purchase a UAV to use here at the Sheriff’s Office,” McDaniel says.

Instead of the ACLU’s sweeping privacy and civil liberties concerns, McDaniel focuses in on the benefits of drones for law enforcement. Shadowhawk drones armed with an array of non-lethal force options–including impact rounds, chemical munition rounds, and tasers– could save lives in McDaniel’s opinion.

Deputy McDaniel points out that these are technologies “law enforcement utilizes day in and day out” already.

“If it is developed to the extent that we are guaranteed the accuracy, it is certainly something that we could look at, if I can give our swat teams a tool to save their lives, that’s what we are going to do,” McDaniel said.

The ACLU’s Crump, on the other hand, believes that an officer on the ground will always have a better sense of the situation, and seems to caution against any police department going beyond surveillance drones to an armed aerial platform.

Here is a longer video clip of the Shadowhawk police drone in action, courtesy of Vanguard Industries:

But while a debate rages over police departments using drones, it should be noted that the private use of drones is on the rise. As The Blaze’s Liz Klimas noted last month, “drones have been used by the media to capture aerial footage of Russian protests and riots in Poland“ and a ”civilian drone operated in Texas recently spotted a meat packing plant violating laws by dumping animal products into a local stream.”

Potentially they could replace patrol cars and issue speeding tickets via mail, like traffic cams do.

Police planes and helocopters have been chasing and flying for over 40 years, helping in tracking and finding crooks, kids and traffic. Theres a lot of benefits to cops, as the Sheriff details, however, with any new technology from mace to airplanes, once the bad guys get ahold of the technology or defense mechanism, (like drones with arms or tear gas), the technology is turned upon the cops, citizens and rival drug and gang members. Law and liability keeps public deep pockets from utilizing what lawbreakers routinely ignore. U.S. cops can be controlled, through law and liability. Its other countries, gangs, corrupt politicians and companies who legalize and sell the same technology that will untie the remaining ability to protect soverignity and citizens from harm that is in danger. Think internet, counterfeiting, identity theft, mace and pepper spray in robberies and strong arms, guns to illegals and cartels. Licensing hasn’t stopped gun violence, eventually licensing drones will be as useless and unenforceable as gun laws, once the “bad guys” figure out how to get their hands on another method to violate law and the air.

@ Simple truths, “you don’t own the airspace over your land”…..

Well, maybe we should. In fact, alot of people do own the airspace over their land to a certain height or the airspace over others’ land. Also, it is people like you who have taken us away from allodial title rights and given us state or municipality owned lands that we cannot even build a tool shed on without permits signed in triplicate and posted in public view.

You know what, it won’t take much in this nation for me to actually start shooting at police officers. Especially after watching the video of the murder of Marine Sergeant Jose Guerena. In case you haven’t heard, a swat team showing up unannounced shot a Marine veteran in his own home while his wife and child hid in the closet fearing for their lives and then after shooting 70+ rounds into his home and dozens into his body, they denied medical aid for over an hour and instead let his wife and child watch as their father and husband bled to death in the home he provided for them with the sweat of his brow working in a mine all night.

They were supposed to be conducting a search warrant for drugs because he was pulled over as a passenger in his brother’s truck and there was a roll of saran wrap present in the vehicle. Because of this, they sent a dozen or more men in body armor with m-16′s and glocks to his door. When his wife saw a figure hop their fence, she woke him up for the last time. Sgt. Guerena never shot at the police, I w

Once again as the president of a non-profit company that is going to deploy drones for use in the National Airspace, I wanted to comment on this story. This particular drone generally takes at least a year to become proficient with. And even long than that when trying to be very delicate and accurate with your videos.

I can train our people to fly in about 3 hours and true proficiency is reached in days. Again with all that said, there is always the possibility for abuse of any technology. For those who wish to learn more about what we are doing, please go to our website:

So should any of you for any reason believe that we at A.S.E.R., Inc are “spying” on you please feel free to contact us with the date and time of the “spying”. However as of today, we are not air born as we refuse to take federal dollars to fund the project. We will not have unmarked vehicles, but rather a large truck that is clearly marked. The UAVs will be white so as to be easily seen by rescue and emergency service workers and volunteers, and as we grow, we will be hiring Veterans to fly the UAVs and man the stations.

But for those of you who are concerned, PLEASE contact us with your concerns. I want to hear about them and help to ensure that YOUR freedoms and mine are not impinged upon by this project.

Drones, oh I forgot, you mean Barry‘s ’war machine”?…
    Coming to American cities soon?
I guess the brown-shirt brigade was nixed?
Obviously no mention here of where drones could actually provide the American people with a much needed and valuable protection, on the Mexican or Canadian borders?

I am pretty sure shooting it will be considered assault on a police officer and will find you jail time.

Fear not Martinez, Ron Paul will be the only one at the convention with his own personal American trained army. It put a smile on my face when I heard Veterans for RP are planning to march a division on the convention. I’m sure they try to stop it from happening, but it’s in the works.

And Coming to the Municipal Code Officer, the USDA Conservation Office, the EPA…
Think twice before stating, “Go and image, I have nothing to hide.”
A society that is ignorant of what’s in the bill is guilty.

Yeah – I’ve seen one – It can stay in the air for about 10 minutes and it’s noisier than a 1973 Pinto running on two cylinders stuck in first gear with a screaming baby in the front seat.

Eric; you made me pee my pants! If you are right it is worthless! The photo of the military type sheriffs department with one of these little screamers is frightening. Reminds me of WACO and Ruby Ridge. NOT very comfortable pictures of America. TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY!

Won’t it be cool when they are all linked together for intelligence use in DC so that the president can follow targeted citizens? Nah… That’ll never happen, right?

Yep, target practice. I doubt I will ever be the subject of drone surveillance, but if so, I would enjoy the opportunity for a little target practice or remote interception of their control freq to take control and monitor the video feed.

The crazy thing Lukerw is that here in NJ, they have gun shot detection monitors on every street pole in the ghetto to track gun shots…not kidding. Even have a red spotlight to shine on pedestrians or cars that the cops deem ‘potentially criminal’, pre-crime..Big Brother is alive in the inner cities of NJ. Every ghetto in this state, ruined by Liberals and Democrats.
