Warnings: If History Repeats Itself, the Price of Oil Could Reach $440 a Barrel

Warnings: If History Repeats Itself, the Price of Oil Could Reach $440 a BarrelBob Bandos, president and CEO of GAC North America, a marine logistics and service company headquartered in Dubai, fears that the tension between Iran and the West will lead to an exponential increase in the price of oil.

Many Blaze readers are aware of the details: several Western countries have threatened to sanction Iran if it refuses to abandon its nuclear energy program. In return, Iran has threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz – an artery vital to international oil trade.

“The oil is not just from Iran but also from oil-rich producers Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates that feed energy-hungry consumers,” writes Pierre Bertrand of International Business Times. “Daily, 14 supertankers sail through the strait. The largest can carry more than 320,000 tons of cargo.”

It’s not because Iran is threatening to deprive some eurozone countries of oil that several U.S. economists are worried. It’s because closing the strait would effectively cut off 40 percent of all U.S. crude imports. Obviously, this would be extraordinary dangerous for the already-fragile U.S. economy.

How dangerous?

Bandos believes that if the Strait were choked off, the effect would be similar to the fuel shortages of the 1970s – but much worse.

“That would be nothing compared to this,” Bandos said, who added that the shortage would be felt on a global level.

“During the 1973 Yom Kippur War between Israel, Egypt and Syria, Arab oil exporters declared an embargo from October 1973 that lasted until April 1974,” Bertrand explains, “World oil prices shot up from $3.40 a barrel to $12. Overall, the world shut off 7 percent of daily production…by contrast, oil has been selling for about $109 a barrel.”

Now keep in mind the Iranians have threatened to close the strait for at least a month, claiming it will sink anything traveling through the area with its missile defense system.

Warnings: If History Repeats Itself, the Price of Oil Could Reach $440 a BarrelMahmoud Ahmadinejad approving of Iran’s first nuclear-powered whiskey still

“If that were the case, you’re talking about millions and millions of barrels of oil that will not get out,” Bandos said. “It’s going to create more havoc on oil.”

Many analysts believe that a closure would mean devastation for the global economy because oil shortages will hit countries “where they are most vulnerable.”

Considering how the markets have reacted recently to even the slightest provocation, Bandos‘ warnings doesn’t sound that far-fetched.

“To prove a point, Iran in January held war games in the strait,” Bertrand notes, “The mere rumor of a temporary closure sent crude oil prices soaring to more than $112 a barrel. Crude oil prices have since dropped, but fed by fears of war,” oil prices are creeping back up.

“Iran has a lot of leverage here,” said GAC’s Bandos, adding a closure would most likely provoke U.S. intervention.

A closure would also violate international law, he adds, and the effects would be felt everywhere – not just in the markets.

“Companies that charter shippers to haul their goods will be in a particular bind,” Bertrand writes, “Companies usually spend anywhere between $30,000 and $120,000 a day to charter a tanker ship, and that does not include bunkering and fuel costs.”

Furthermore, a closure could bring about a firestorm of litigation as literally tons of materiel and cargo could “sit in limbo in port, or idle in the water,” which, of course, would lead to lawsuits over who gets what, when, and how.

“One thing is clear: If the strait closes, global economies would suffer,” Bertrand declares, “Oil prices are sure to hit record highs. If the 1973 embargo experience repeats itself, the price of a barrel of oil could soar to $440 a barrel.”

Here we are discussing the likelihood of Iran shutting down the Strait of Hormuz, the far reaching economic damage to the U.S. and European countries, putting the lives of U.S. service members in jeopardy as well as the lives of Iranian civilians in the event of U.S. strikes to nullify their nuclear capabilities. All of this because of a U.S. President who has embraced and supported the spread of radical Islam, and the Socialist left at home. Why? Politics be dammed, America once stood for something, the President could have taken an aggressive stance from the beginning, letting our enemies know we would not tolerate the spread of oppressive Islamic regimes instead of funding them. The President could have signed a bill that would have employed thousands building a pipeline with our neighbor Canada, instead of escalating a crisis with our enemies. The President could open areas of the U.S. to oil and natural gas development instead of bowing down to pressure from the Green Socialist. The President owns this problem, but we will bear the burden for his agenda. Please prepare, Obama will not go quietly into the sunset, the fight of our lives looms on the horizon. God help us.

Well im not a tree hugger but, i have been investing in alternative means of transportation. When the crap hits the fan you will not even be able to get a scooter or a electric bicycle, they will be all gone.
With a little bit of vision of things to come you can protect yourself, it may however mean you have to invest in those alternative energies everyone seems to hate. I personaly hate gas prices more than batteries. the technology is here now it’s just expensive becuse nobody thinks they need it yet. What will all of you do when the energy grid goes down becuse everyone jumps on the electric car band wagon and the government cannot provide enough electricity for residential neighborhoods.By then you would not even have a prayer to buy a solar or wind generator.
My advice to everyone is get onboard the technology wave and try to ride it to oil independance, or atleast a little less dependance. The technology is here all we have to do is start building more……

    The Road Warrior (1981):
Narrator Begins: “My life fades. The vision dims. All that remains are memories. I remember a time of chaos. Ruined dreams. This wasted land. But most of all, I remember The Road Warrior. The man we called “Max”. To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time. When the world was powered by the black fuel. And the desert sprouted great cities of pipe and steel. Gone now, swept away. For reasons long forgotten, two mighty warrior tribes went to war and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel, they were nothing. They built a house of straw. The thundering machines sputtered and stopped. Their leaders talked and talked and talked. But nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. The cities exploded. A whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men. On the roads it was a white line nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice. And in this maelstrom of decay, ordinary men were battered and smashed. Men like Max. The warrior Max. In the roar of an engine, he lost everything. And became a shell of a man, a burnt out, desolate man, a man haunted by the demons of his past, a man who wandered out into the wasteland. And it was here, in this blighted place, that he learned to live again…”

Always follow the money (because it will always take you to the truth):

    ————–
“March 20, 2012: the Iranian oil bourse will no longer trade oil in the U.S. dollar but start trading oil in other currencies like the euro, yen, yuan, rupee or a basket of currencies.”

If U.S. dollars are no longer needed to purchase oil with, then inflation will start becoming a BIG problem in the U.S.

Substitute the word “inflation” for “nuclear weapons” and its pretty easy to start putting 2 + 2 together, so expect the shooting to start on or before March 20, 2012.

Ron Paul understands monetary policy better than any of the other Republican candidates. His book “End the Fed” is witness to his superior economic understanding. Gingrich and Romney seem at a loss to realize what we are up against with the central bankers.

We have more oil in the US than any other country and if we wanted to we could not only be completely self sufficient in terms of oil but we could export it to other countries. It’s a travesty that we still buy oil from dictators, communists and opec. We should tell the world that we will no longer purchase oil from these countries and admonish all other civilized countries to do the same.

      Guys..
Problem 1 – US has not built a refinery in over 30 years. Ours are outdated and unable to handle the capacity we use on a daily basis. Same thing with a nuclear reactor, none in 30 years. If we had kept building reactors at the rate of say France, we would have over 150 today and our electricity needs would be totally off coal, oil, and natural gas, dropping our oil consumption by nearly 40%.

Problem 2 – the US only gets about 27% of our oil from foreign sources. We consider Canada and Mexico to be domestic sources. Our own oil, Mexican, and Canadian oil, makes up just over 70% of what we use daily. Some states, like CA, with their own oil, import less than 10% from foreign sources. It is a MYTH that we are DEPENDENT on foreign sources, over 70% of all oil based products (plastics, gases, rubber, power) would work fine without Mid East oil. It would hurt us bad but not kill us, it would kill Europe and Asia however and that would eventually kill us.

Problem 3 – the US could force oil prices down to pre-Obama levels if we removed all drilling restrictions and within 3-5 years, be foreign source independent.

Problem 4 – the above 3 aren’t about what we can do but will do. Our buying foreign oil is nothing more than a form of foreign aid to the people we want to keep in power. It is political not economics that drives oil prices and where we drill, export, and import from. Our government is guilty at all levels of selling the People out.

It’s not so much about the Straits of Hormuz as it is about global economic terrorism by foreign states and their investments into oil and our markets with the failure of becoming less dependent upon foreign oil. Percentages were given on oil production, oil sales, refining percentages and costs. Obama is lying at ever turn so he can continue with his green energy programs while putting the United States at risk, does this surprise anyone on this board. If you want the percentages go to gbtv.com and watch today’s show, it will explain the position we’re in, two week free trial still exists. When oil was $3.40 a barrel, an ounce of gold was only $40. Now, oil is around $106.73 a barrel and gold is at $1,695.85.

So, in 1973 you could get a barrel of gold for 0.085 ounces of gold, but it would only be 0.063 ounces of gold today.

Therefore, the problem is not high oil prices, but low dollar value.

Politicians and their funders in the Federal Reserve have destroyed the value of the dollar with inflation.

Any war in the area is going to shoot the price of oil sky high, but it wont be because of Iran. It will be our fault for attacking a country that has no possible way of attacking us.

In the picture… “Mahmoud Ahmadinejad approving of Iran’s first nuclear-powered whiskey still.”

Next Picture…… Mahmoud Ahmaddinejad approving Iran’s first nuclear-powered marijuana grow room.

Another reason for Ron Paul and his supporters to glow for Iran.

3 thing things that Ron Paul supporters get behind.

      @time

Do you think us attacking another Muslim nation will mean fewer or more future terrorists? Is a Iranian father who watches his wife and kids die during the invasion going to be mad at us and become extreme or do you think he will blame his government and go back to making carpets?

Do you think the war on drugs has worked? After Ron Paul made it a states right to decide which drugs are legal, and your state said black tar heroin is legal, are you going to start doing black tar heroin?

If you actually said why you dont think Ron Paul is the right guy for president instead of making dumb comments you might get some where with people. I am not talking about the same uninformed talking points or the bs newsletters. I am talking about a side by side comparison of the candidates and show where Ron Paul is wrong on real issues. DEBT, SPENDING, WARS, AND FREEDOMS.

Ron Paul can’t think outside the box. His simplistic libertarian ideology prevents him from having a clue on how to deal with the complex problems of the world and most problems here in the US. As the leader of the “free” world, he would be a disaster not unlike Obama… possibly even worse. Ron Paul defers to the States for just the same reason… a cop-out for a simplistic man who doesn’t believe in the “United” States, but 50 individual countries.

“Ron Paul can’t think outside the box. His simplistic libertarian ideology prevents him from having a clue on how to deal with the complex problems” You are right…..becoming a Doctor is as easy as opening a ******* jack box, and even easier to maintain that profession for over 30 years.

“As the leader of the “free” world, he would be a disaster not unlike Obama… possibly even worse” Yes quoting the founding fathers and supporting living by the Constitution is an INSANE idea them Nutjob founders had to have been high on drugs to ever think that system would have worked….

“Ron Paul defers to the States for just the same reason… a cop-out for a simplistic man who doesn’t believe in the “United” States, but 50 individual countries.” As did our founders as they were the one’s responsible for creating the 10th amendment, yet you would actually have to read the Constitution to understand this process,….Yes we know that is beneath your level of intelligence.

The fair price of oil is about 100-200 dollars a barrel. Iran cannot close the strait – Saudi, and every country, would destroy the regime. All of this is nothing more than jockeying to get oil prices up where they belong. I promise you, the US will allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon. Dount me? Look only to Korea, an even more bizarre and deadly place. We let them have nuclear weapons with barely a whimper.

The fair value of oil is about $187,500 per barrel. Each barrel contains the energy of approximately 25,000 man hours. 25,000 man hours x $7.50 an hour = $187,500 value per barrel.

Obama and Soros must be salvatating at the thought of a global economic collapse. This is exactly what each of them wants to have happen – collapse, reorganization of the world government and a world war to ‘restart’ everything under Soros ‘open borders’ agenda.
