Was John Lennon a Closet…Republican?

John Lennon is, no doubt, a cultural icon. His perceived liberal “make love, not war” political attitude has resonated in the hearts of hippies for five decades.
So how will the hippies of all ages handle this — the late Beatle’s last personal assistant has revealed in a new documentary that Lennon was in fact a closet Republican, who felt a little embarrassed by his former radicalism. Instant karma!
From the Toronto Sun:
“Fred Seaman worked alongside the music legend from 1979 to Lennon’s death at the end of 1980 and he reveals the star was a Ronald Reagan fan who enjoyed arguing with left-wing radicals who reminded him of his former self.
In new documentary Beatles Stories, Seaman tells filmmaker Seth Swirsky Lennon wasn’t the peace-loving militant fans thought he was while he was his assistant.
He says, ‘John, basically, made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on (Democrat) Jimmy Carter.’”
A Reagan lover, say what!
As Bruce Springsteen scolded Ronald Reagan for referencing his “Born in the U.S.A.” song in 1984, and Tom Petty recently asked Michele Bachmann to stop play “American Girl” at her events, given this new information I wonder if Lennon would have approved of this picture that John Kerry showed off left and right in 2004 to convince everyone he was cool:

Posted on June 30, 2011 at 6:22amPlease stop misquoting Churchill – great man though he was. The phrase originated with Francois Guisot (1787-1874): “Not to be a republican at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head.” It was revived by French Premier Georges Clemenceau (1841-1929): “Not to be a socialist at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head.” Sorry to be pedantic, but after the third misquote it grates.

Kerry look cool. I think he‘s in the upper percentile of democrat’s that are as big a liar as our
dear leader, Barack Husseine Obama, um, um, um.
What never ceases to amaze me is the number of people that a couple of Rube‘s like Barry and Kerry can convince that they’re actually sincere and telling the truth about anything. Talk about your used car salesmen, I wouldn’t buy a dip stick from those two dip sticks.

It is not all that uncommon, on the other hand, that when faced with irrefutable facts some leftists (even radicals) step away from their group think and examine the world around them for themselves.
I do not note any corrobrating evidence in this story. Though either way sometimes it is fun to be quixotic.

But it would be fun to Imagine the #9 dream, and see the Left go cataleptic over their musical icon being a ‘traitor’ to their cause.

Posted on June 29, 2011 at 11:50pmNot necessarily. If you read the original Toronto Sun article, it says he became a supporter of Reagan only having become disillusioned with Carter. So, Ford is irrelevant, since Carter turned him conservative. However, the story is hard to prove and Yoko will certainly not back it.

Posted on June 30, 2011 at 6:16amAngelcat – no it’s time to trash Fred Seaman. Who is Fred Seaman? He’d been a personal assistant to John and Yoko at the Dakota in the late seventies, but he’s also a convicted criminal. He was found guilty of stealing John Lennon’s personal belongings, including his diaries, after Lennon had been killed. He was sentenced to five years probation. A guy who robs the dead – nice credible witness. Never mind, the Blaze has just increased his book sales. Nice job.
