Watch a Reporter Go Wading — in Chest-Deep Water!

There’s been no shortage of journalists braving the rain and steeling themselves against the wind to deliver live, up to-the-minute reports on Hurricane Irene’s latest.

In Norfolk, Va. where the storm surge pushed the waters up to record level Saturday night, WTKR’s Kurt Williams stood in flooding that at times reached up to his chest.

To demonstrate how deep it was, Williams slowly ambled a few feet along an intersection during his live report to show how the water nearly covered a crosswalk button on a street pole.

“You can’t even read the sign!” he exclaimed. “Wow, that just gives you a sense of how deep it is here.”

He ended his report a few moments later, with rain battering the camera and microphone.

“Before I swim away I will send it back to you in the studio.”

He should have jumped into the ocean and demonstrated how deep it is.

I saw Anderson Cooper covering hurricane Ike. That fool was on TV standing in a 2-1/2 foot ditch that was covered by water. Anyone watching the coverage would have assumed the water was almost chest deep if they had not seen the mail box to the side that was over his head. Sad what people will do to get ratings.

Typical staged hype. I saw some shots of Wall Street, cars in water to the wheel wells yet 1/2 a block up the street you can see cars high and dry. These people go in search of drama and then report it like it’s widespread.

Has Sean Penn showed up with his shotgun and bodygaurds yet?

If he would have jumped into the East River the water could have been over his head. That would have been something worth watching.

Someday, one of these brave reporters will be killed and then we will have to hear about how dedicated they were to the story and such a brave reporter. Nonsense. These people are always inserting themselves in harms way and then when they get hurt we are supposed to feel sorry for them. Lara Logan is an example. I do not like that she was raped but she had no business amongst a mob of criminals.

Lara’s bosses should have listened to Hannity and his concerns over the Muslim issues. Women are only half a man, in Mohammad’s words. They are to be used for sex only. They should never had sent the lass into that situation!

I do not understand the need to have these stupid displays. I get it, it’s a hurricane, lots of wind and rain. I don’t understand it more when an idiot stands outside holding onto a lightpost, or wades into chest deep water. All I DO think is “That poor fool doesn’t have a good enough job to keep him OUT of the weather.”

    Is it done yet?
3 days of worst case scenarios from TV pundits and all those clowns standing on the beaches pointing to the “big waves” and promising a disaster any minute now!
They wound up getting their feet wet. Tropical storm hits NYC!
The TV news readers are still warning of all the horrible things that ‘could’ yet happen! Boats might be blown onto the beach killing everyone!

All the News readers, giving their impressions of what everyone should do!
Most are lucky to find their way home at night, yet they have lots of advice for their viewers.
These people should never be allowed to ad-lib.
Blond hair and boobs do not an ‘expert’ make.

This guy is ignorant or just plain stupid He not only exposed himself exposure to all kinds of diseases from animal feces (and possibly human sewerage) the electricity was still working and could drop a line into that water at anytime.
Where do these guys get the idea that taking stupid chances is smart. Does it raise their ratings, make them a hero for 15 minutes of fame.
Again, this is not bravery its stupidity!

That‘s where I’d want to be. Chest high water with all the electricity still running. Water in places that was not designed to be sitting in water. There’s juice in that button you just pushed. No wonder there is warning labels on everything.

      Beautiful!!!

I have to laugh at all the coverage with reporters out in the elements-raincoats unbuttoned & whipping around them-braced, feet planted, leaning forward against the horrific 30-40mph winds.
My 10yr old could stand up straight in that! lol

Sure, just touch that traffic pole switch while the pole and he are under water. The water is standing all over the circuitry for that pole and is up inside the pole. So are those 110VAC or 220VAC? Either way, he risk at least an extremely bad shock while standing in water up to his elbows. Not smart at all. Microorganisms are second, he might have been instantly killed just walking out there from the power, and again when he touched the pole.

listening to the women speak on this, “anything touched by flood water should be disposed of” Really then their buddy reporter, who doesnt think about electricity & water combinations, or anything else intelligently, then are they going to have to dispose of him now? since he bathed in the filthy water?

You got that one right. Only idiots think they have to show by example what could be life threatening.
These TV news programs really pizz me off with sending reporters into serious situations, in fact it makes me so angry, I refuse to watch.
Plus, they get in the way of rescue teams, who are trained to do this. I’ve seen reporters blown down,
slip & fall and one day someone will get hit by flying debris or worse, electric wires could be down.

If you must get close, at least have the reporters be in a safe location and use your camera lenses to show how bad things are. We’re not dummies, we can see from a safe distance.

WE, the public should start insisting the TV stations stop sending reporters into these situations. I can hardly look at it from worry about the safety of the poor reporter. This is not news watching the reporter slipping & falling, possibly getting hit from flying debris, electric wires or worse. We can see how bad the storm is from a long distance camera shot, they don’t have to risk their lives.
