Watch: Angry Protesters Storm Wisconsin Capitol Building

A video from a McIver Institute reporter captures images of protesters pouring into the building after fellow demonstrators rebuffed capitol police orders to keep the building’s doors closed. At one point, police are forced to drag one protester away from the doors to get them closed:
Demonstrators crowded the Capitol in a wild scene after senators passed a budget-repair bill in a hastily called meeting Wednesday night that outraged protesters and Democratic legislators. …
Protesters demanded to be let inside, and in one scene at the southeastern entrance of the Capitol, scores of protesters pressed against the door as two-dozen police pushed them back.
One protester got partly inside the door and was dragged in by the State Patrol.
Outside, protesters chanted “Let us in,” banged drums and blew horns in protest and threw snowballs at windows of the Capitol.
Inside, they yelled “You lied to Wisconsin,“ and ”Kill the Bill.”

Posted on March 9, 2011 at 10:22pmThe 14 Dems are to blame for this move. They failed to do what they were elected to do and it forced the hand of the Republicans showing up to work, who were stuck holding the bag. No sympathy… Right to Work!! Unions be damned!!

Posted on March 10, 2011 at 2:21am“They failed to do what they were elected to do…”
You mean have the Republicans steamroll over all their ideological beliefs? Is that what they were elected to do? I’m sorry, I must have been mistaken, because I thought they were elected to represent Democrats and vote Left, or at least more Left than Republicans, on issues…my mistake–I didn‘t get the memo about how we’re turning over the political system to Republicans’ unopposed control. Just one question though–once Republicans have ruined the economy, raised poverty, allowed multinational firms, and the capitalists that own them, to drain all the wealth from the country then leave, once they’ve dismantled welfare, crippled efforts to adapt to and create a modern economy, once they’ve undermined our education system and de-funded it further, taken away the rights of teachers to set their curriculum in their classroom, once they’ve crippled our military with inefficient pork contracts, once they’ve wasted more resources pursuing emotionally vindicating but pragmatically useless policies which criminalize entire segments of the population, once the Republicans have locked every black man in jail, and once they‘ve pushed the government into womens’ lives forcing to have children they aren‘t ready for and don’t want, while also forcing the government into the lives of our homosexual citizens and having the audacity to say “your relationship” is not as legitimate to the State as our heterosexual citizens–once they’ve done all this, my question is do we, the Left, finally, for once, get what’s left of the country so we can actually fix some of the things that are wrong with it that threaten our citizens?

Posted on March 10, 2011 at 5:35amThird Archon, You sir have some really idiotic beliefs there dude, been reading democratic talking points much? The party you are obviously defending are the actual racists, they talk and call everyone else a racist while trying to devise a new plan to keep any minority in their prescribed CLASS by giving them just enough free stuff to be able to live semi-comfortably, thereby taking away any motivation to actually work hard enough themselves to grab what is actually the American dream. You talk about defunding schools but we have thrown TRILLIONS of dollars at the education system over the years and we have nothing to show for it. How many more trillions would get that kid that is thinking about dropping out of school to stay in school? I know personal responsibility is a hard thing for you progressives to swallow, but maybe if parents weren’t so worried about themselves and actually took an interest in the kids education then they might actually go to school to learn. Teachers unions are also a problem, we have to be able to have the best and brightest teaching and not have a bunch of babysitters just in it for the paycheck and the summers off. You act as if everything is so cut and dry, sorry real life doesn’t work that way. Your comment about government being in a womans life by forcing them to have a baby they aren’t ready for is utterly ridiculous, did the taxpayers get her pregnant, did they force her to lay down and open those legs? I actually could care less about abortion as a man I don’t have to worry about it, but at the same time if I didn‘t get the woman pregnant I shouldn’t have to pay for her to kill a baby so that she can still go out and party and start the process all over again. By your logic why can’t we just kill one of our kids if we suddenly decide when they are 13 that we no longer are ready or want to raise a child anymore? Do you see how utterly stupid that statement is, and don’t try to give me that they are two different things because they are not. Oh well you have really got that vein in my neck working overtime which I am sure was your purpose, well done. I still pray that one day you might see that nothing is owed you and that you can‘t spend trillions of dollars you don’t have to try to grow an economy while regulating and taxing companies out of business.

Posted on March 9, 2011 at 10:22pmThe people have spoken in Wisconsin, irregardless of the sour grapes we are going to hear from the unions and their Dem flunkies. This is how our government was intended to work. In a two-party system, the power to pass legislation lies with the party that won the most approval with the voters. The Dems will just have to adjust to being the minority party and accept the consequences. They no longer control the state and cannot push their agenda down everyone’s throat anymore. May what happened here in WI turn into a tidal wave across the country. The era of the unions’ bully days are over.

Posted on March 9, 2011 at 11:02pmNo. Actually both parties should be present to debate so that the minority is protected. But when the party of the minority shirks their elected duty then the republic suffers.
But anyway before you go thinking I‘m not on your side I’m proud that the unions were put in their place tonight. Even FDR recognized the futility of government unions bargaining rights. That should have been off the table from the get go!

Posted on March 9, 2011 at 10:14pmI cannot relate to these people who feel everthing should be given to them. Unions are no better than the government … They take your money and live the good life while the very people they are suppose to protect suffer. Yet, the union people follow like blind mice. Unions would and do have a place to balance business against employee abuse; the problem is; folks it is not working! The working union class has become the pit bulls for these bosses who sit in their comfy homes and laugh at how much power they have. As far as the public sector goes … sorry guys but there should be NO UNIONS. You work for the people and as such serve the public. Government would automatically shrink if the Unions were not there.

I could not tell you how many calls we get each election telling us WHO to vote for…ALWAYS Democrat. My husband was raised in the contruction field, his parents were Democrats and he has always said he was a Democrat, but he hates his Union, who only looks out for itself. They could care less about their workers, so long as the big wigs get theirs. UNITED STEEL WORKERS…And do you know, everytime they call me to tell me who to vote for, I hang up the phone. The Dems reluctance to accept that they cannot always be top dog and be in control is embarrassing to watch.

I am proud of the people and Senate of WI – they voted the will of the people who voted last November. Being a small business person, thankfully in an “At Will” work state, I have never needed any union to know what was the right thing to do – take care of the fine people who helped me build the businesses and reward them with high pay, 100% benefits, and shares earned in ownership.
Unions, especially public unions, are not needed. What is needed is good people, hard work and a fair and free market. That’s all my people and our companies needed – just a chance to compete.
God Bless and keep the Gov., Senate, Legislature and people of WI. Liberty is all you need – you do not need public unions.

Posted on March 10, 2011 at 1:30amSince I am a liberal, I’m going to use liberal logic to explain this situation.
All I see in these videos of union protesters is white people. Therefore, these unions are made up of people who are racists! They hate american racial minorities; that‘s why there aren’t any minorities protesting. Madison is no Cairo! In Cairo, the protesters were people of different color, etc.
These people are violent racists and I’m glad there are no teachers in this group because I would not want any of these subversive racists to teach my child.

Posted on March 10, 2011 at 1:48amUrgent Notice to all Professional Union Protestors
Because our membership in Wisconsin might soon dwindle, we will have to lower your daily per diem~~!!!!!!. However, worry not, we’ll negotiate a new clause in your contract next year which will not allow Unions to dock the per diem of failed demonstrations.

Posted on March 10, 2011 at 8:51amI am from Wisconsin. And I am all for Union busting, I dislike both parties where as I am a constitutional consecrative – libertarian. And I can honestly say I am disappointed in Scott Walker for smashing this like Obama did Obamacare.
I think overall I think this will hurt the puppet republican party more so then the puppet democrat party. I think it is time for America to move beyond the left right paradigm.

Posted on March 10, 2011 at 10:22amAll this just shows how foolish they look. They think that a few people shouting out stupid statements is what the people want? Especially since it is probably likely that most of them were probably paid to be there. Wacko thugs hiring paid wacko thugs to whine and whine and whine! No one really cares what these jokers think. All it is doing is showing everyone that the demoncrats and union thugs are shrinking their IQ by the second. Dumb, Dumber AND the Dumbest.

Posted on March 10, 2011 at 10:26am@Seraph,
“And I can honestly say I am disappointed in Scott Walker for smashing this like Obama did Obamacare.”
What Walker did was not like what Obama did. Walker heard the arguments and gave counter-arguments. What Obama did was hear the arguments, then changed the subject, saying instead that both parties should only focus on what they agree on, and not focus on the Constitutional issues they disagreed on.
Very different.
“I think overall I think this will hurt the puppet republican party more so then the puppet democrat party. I think it is time for America to move beyond the left right paradigm.”
The “left right paradigm” is not just a label. “Left” and “Right” represent beliefs about the role of, and trust in, government. They are useful labels.

Posted on March 10, 2011 at 12:45pmThird Archon, you like so many misguided liberals live to blame others for your plight in life. Our country was built on individual responsibility, morality and rule of law. The difference in your ideology and mine is I have never for one minute thought the government owed me or my family anything. Have never considered myself above the law and believe we are a moral people (not perfect).
Report Post »You my dear sir have been duped into believing you can do little in life without help (government entitlements, unions, Socialized healthcare, etc). Once that is ingrained in your mind your are then powerless over your own destiny. Perhaps the biggest problem our nation faces is this mindset.
The politicians bend over backwards to cater to people like you to keep your vote, all the while selling our country to Communist and you are fine with that, as long as you get what is “owed to you”. God help us!
