Watch: Boehner Responds to Obama on Collapse of Debt Negotiations

Just minutes after President Obama responded to the collapse in debt negotiations with House Speaker Boehner, Boehner responded with a press conference of his own:

Boehner abruptly halted talks with Obama late Friday on a deal to cut spending and prevent a government default. Boehner alleged Republicans and Democrats are worlds apart in their respective views for the country.

But during the press conference, Boehner said he believes congressional leaders will be able to avert a government default despite the collapse in talks with the President.

Boehner accused Obama of “moving the goal posts” by demanding $400 billion in tax increases in addition to $800 billion in revenues that might have been reaped through a rewrite of the tax code.

The House Speaker said he plans to attend a White House meeting Saturday with a view to finding a fallback plan as long as spending cuts of a commensurate size are part of the deal.

    Boehner was obviously blind sided by BHO calling a press conference. His remarks were very unprepared and scattered. But as long as he remembers just why the R’s were given a majority in the last election; I’m good with that. This is the full court press, notice none of this happened until after the markets closed for the day. I just hope that the R‘s don’t cave, I voted for them to go and stop BHO and his socialist buddies.. not to give in.

      I preferred to see Boehner without time to prepare a presentation. He may have stumbled a bit, but you can tell he believes in what he is saying. He showed himself to be the adult in the room during these negotiations.

      The Dems were not prepared for this… this isn’t in the DC playbook.

    How dare Obama order our elected officials to his office-who the hell does he think he is Henry the 8th?-Do not trust him, he has lied so many times-and he lied again-dont give in-dont give up-give him nothing-and PULEEZ stop calling it revenues-its TAXES , HE WANTS NOTHING TO STOP HIM FROM GETTING A 2nd term.     One of the things Obama wants is to eliminate the tax deduction for mortgage interest which will result in a huge tax increase for middle class Americans and further depress the housing market. Tell him NO Mr. Speaker. Republicans have to stop being on the defensive and do what they shoud have done two yeras ago. Challenge Obama’s eligibilty for office, He is NOT a natural born citizen- he was born a British subject by virtue of having a father who was a British subject. It doesn’t matter whether he was born in Hawaii or not- his father was not an American-therefore he is not a natural born citizen. Grow a pair Republicans and get Obama out of the White House before he totally destroys this country and our economy.

      Why our republicans blessed with such weak-kneed leaders lately??? My goodness, the Gipper must be dizzy as hell from all that rolling over!

      But, I guess it’s actually a good thing no deal has been consummated (yet). That’ll probably take another day or two out on the links.

      And, I remain convinced that nobody has any clue about what is going on. When the big dogs cower and and cry default without providing any credible evidence, that’s a recipe for disaster.

      I disagree….he made a few concessions earlier that I think he now regrets..but he’s hanging tuff now. He needs to know his position is supported. I wish there was enough time to gather at DC mall Sat. and let these guys know how we feel. They just need a little visual support.

      You can see the difference in tone of the angry and frustrated President against a frustrated Speaker of the House.

      You can see the difference between a President who blames for the breakdown of the talk to the Republicans and praise the Democrats while the Speaker of the House who refused to go on nitpicking.

      You can see the difference between how the Lame Stream Media questions the President and how the Lame Stream Media questions the Speaker of the House.

      You can the the difference in the outlook….President presents a gloom and doom and Speaker still trying to find a solution.

      You can see the difference in language..the President already blaming the Republican for the future and Speaker being positive still.

      You can see the difference between a President who is trying his best to show emotions and try to sell the idea that he is Not THE DIVIDER and that people should vote for him come 2012 and a Speaker of the House who doesn’t even want to talk about any political stuff.

    boehner is the adult in the room and it showed in his press conference. it must be hard not to come out and go off on all the lies he just heard from blowhard. did anyone else notice the questions from the so call press was confrontational? i wish all republicans that are ask a question would come back with one of their own like…do you have a copy of the presidents plan reporter? they need to pound that in at every chance they get. make the press realize how bias they are.

      Boehner showed the difference between class and professionalism and lack of class, petulance, and narcissism (Obama of course). I don’t think I could have been as restrained as he was, but I think it was effective in showing the contrast between the REAL adult, and President Crybaby.

After all we can’t have all the “DOMES” around the world not looking shabby and not up to code. The Libs have only 2 talking points that they are driving home with a fury, and they do it 24/7. Also cut Military spending by 10% and mostly adminstration. With those 2 items and the Libs won’t have a prayer in hell to avoid “WE THE PEOPLE”

    I’m not a big fan of Boehner at all so take this in context. Republicans need a Speaker who can speak and articulate a clear convincing path forward.. My goodness this many didn’t even once address all of the wasteful spending coming from DC??? Unreal! At least articulate the wasteful spending for godsakes… We need more lawyers not businessmen. .Let the bussinessmen fund the lawyers.. So frustrating especially after 8 years of GWB!

      yosemitefan: Obviously I mean in the sense of COMMUNICATION skills; however, I know a few decent Conservative lawyers.. There are some good Conservative Prosecutors out there.. Take the woman that was on the prosecution team for the Anthony girl.. She was convincing. Obviously not to that stupid jury but she sure sounded good to me.. I’m just simply saying we need a damn Spokesperson not a man with a Business Degree or Engineering degree.. A man or woman with communication skills like Bachmann!

      True, defense spending must be cut. Even if keeping the defense at its present levels is “the right thing”, as many families have to decide regarding preventative dental work and the like, we can’t always afford to do the right thing. Its a fact of life. Besides, bringing our troops home will be a good thing.

I believe the Speaker when he said the President changed the agreement by calling for more taxes yesterday. The President pushed a little too far by moving the goal posts at the last minute.

      Now if more people (AMERICANS) would stand up and say NO to Obama we may then see some changes. The President should be for the AMERICAN people not for his own people. Why should the Americans suffer just so that other countries can live the good life? Why isn’t our money being used to help our country rather than to feed and rebuild other countries after we destroy them in a war? Why do we need to outsource our manufacturing & textiles when we have all of the resources we need right here in our own backyards, as well as plenty of AMERICANS in need of jobs? Why do we continue to spend 1000′s of dollars letting murders, child molestors, etc sit on Death Row when we could bring back Lethal Injection, saving our country and it’s tax payers lots of money? Why do we continue to let illegals into our country and offer them handouts & freebies……If you were to step foot onto another countries soil you would be working and paying taxes there. Why should we offer them anything different than what we as Americans get? Our country has been in dire straights before, but never to the degree in which it has become since Osama Bin Laden…..oh sorry Barack Hussein Obama became President.

    Boehner needs grow a pair and pass a 6 month debt ceiling increase with a 5% CUT IN THE FEDERAL BUDGET ACCROSS THE BOARD. When the house passes the increase he needs to adjourn the congress and dare Obama and the democrats to veto it.
    If Obama does’nt like it lethim go have his multi-million dollar birthday party while the unions begin there greece style riots in the street.
    Reublicans need to pass this and go home.

      Yes, it is obvious that the Democrats need more time for their “reality check”, so that a REAL deficit reduction agreement can be forged.

      We won’t be near a deal until we stop hearing about % cuts, and instead hear about ELIMINATING WHOLE DEPARTMENTS (ie. reduce the size and scope of Fed Govt.) like the Department of Education!

The last little bit before he left implied they were going to do something and with a few Democrats involved just let it go and have the president veto it..       agreed. I had to go to the bank so I missed it on fox. And rather wait for them to update, I headed here to the blaze. But, audio was so poor, can’t hear the questions being asked no matter how loud I have the speakers turned up. What a mess! Can you imagine. I mean, if my husband and I could not agree on a budget we would never behave like this. I guess its because its OUR money and OUR future which is directly affected. I don’t think the fat-cats in Washington have the same incentive. They do not seem to care how devastating this could be.

    Wow – Barry the Bozo seems to have forgotten that the most important branch of the federal government as outlined in our Constitution is the legislative branch followed by the executive branch with the judicial branch bringing up the rear…..so, he has zero authority to order anyone around with the exception of the military, and besides, Congress does not work for him, they work for us. Maybe NOBAMA should take the Saturday off to study up on the Constitution.

    I remember when quite a few newsreporters (and posters) made fun of Boehner when he was teary-eyed upon taking the Oath of Office of Speaker of the House. Personally, I not only found this genuine display of emotion refreshing, I found it reassuring.
    He did not take this job on lightly. The History behind him – I believe he knows it.

    All that said-ticked off or not…He WILL be there at 11am at the pleasure of the President.

    Technically if the House went into recess on the 18th as they were supposed to Obama could have called a special session, however since they canceled the recess and the House never adjourned I would have to say no he does not legally have authority. That hasn’t stopped him before though…

    President Obama’s
    finance team is recommending a one percent (1%)
    transaction fee (TAX). Obama’s plan is to sneak it in after the November
    elections to keep it under the radar.

    This is a 1% tax on all transactions at any financial institution – banks,
    credit unions, savings and loans, etc. Any deposit you make, or even a
    transfer within your account, will have a 1% tax charged.
    ~If your paycheck or your social security or whatever is direct deposit, it
    will get a 1% tax charged for the transaction.
    ~If your paycheck is $1000, then you will pay Obama $10 just for the
    privilege of depositing your paycheck in your bank. Even if you hand carry
    your paycheck or any check into your bank for a deposit, 1% tax will be
    charged.
    ~You receive a $5,000 stock dividend from your broker, Obama takes $50 just
    to allow you to deposit that check in the bank.
    ~If you take $1,000 cash to deposit at your bank, 1% tax will be charged.

    Obama is playing a deadly game with all of our lives. He thinks he is our master. Obama wants to and will definitely drive us over a cliff. The only thing that Boehner (and House Repubs) can do is to appear reasonable. Being reasonable does NOT include increasing taxes and does not include giving Obama a blank check. A short term deal with proportional cuts may be best. The rest will be up to the American people after we go over the cliff.

Because if they agree to raise taxes it would be political suicide for them. We voted them in to protect us from higher taxes and to flush obamacare down the toilet.     The Constitution says that the President has power to call a special session of Congress. I guess that’s the power Obumma is using to summon them to the WH.

    I hope the Republicans stand fast. What liberals/progressives/commies don’t get about raising taxes on business is that these taxes will ultimately affect all Americans. First, the businesses will cut jobs, not hire more employees. Don’t forget that as soon as Obamacare kicks in, there are taxes written into it on all of us. Secondly, do they honestly think that business will merely absorb these taxes? What idiots! Business will just raise the cost of their goods to make up the difference. I don’t need a degree from Harvard to understand this basic principle of economics. As Behner said, look at the forest, not just the tree.

    Sorry friend but your liberal lies and MSNBC regurgitated talking points wont be allowed to stand unchallenged here. 1. Beck left at the end of his contract to do more things, loose the corporate restraints, and speak without being tied down to other peoples policies. To speak the truth.
    2. His show had the highest ratings for the time slot and was always in the tops of the ratings for news channels in general.
    3. Given this and seeing a commercial at every break, somehow shows he WAS in fact able to sell the revenue generating advertisements.
    4. If 25% or 1 in 4 of his weekly viewing audience, not to mention his radio audience, and internet subscribers sign up for his new net based tv program, his revenues before selling advertisements would be roughly in the neighboorhood of $20 million. Just a very loose estimate.

    Id say you are a bafoon and nothing more than a liberal troll. P.S. Why would anyone want to ride a BMW. Get a Harley and be a man.
