GOP Candidates Debate Sunday Morning on ‘Meet the Press’

Editor’s note: The debate has concluded, but you can watch a replay below. We’re leaving this post active to maintain the comment thread!

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Newt Gingrich accused Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney of “pious baloney” Sunday for saying he’s not a career politician, demanding in campaign debate that Romney “just level with the American people.”

Romney denied the accusation briskly. “Politics is not my career,” he said. “My life’s passion has been my family, my faith, my country.”

The exchange — and another one in which Rick Santorum swapped jibes with Romney — marked in the opening moments of the second half of a weekend debate doubleheader in the run-up to next Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary.

Romney, who won the Iowa caucuses last Tuesday by eight votes over Santorum, leads in the polls in New Hampshire, where his rivals have all but conceded he will win.

South Carolina comes next, on Jan. 21, the first Southern state to hold a primary, and Romney pointedly noted that he has been endorsed by that state’s governor, Nikki Haley.

Remember the YouTube Republican debate in the last election … it came out later that they had “picked” the questions from people in the Democrat party and Obama supporters … this is just “real” I would bet! Nothing but a bunch of set up questions .. like last night also with Stephanopolis and Sawyer.

      MSM sucks!

Good video on Santorum. Everyone should understand Romney is a progressive, big gov guy. Look at who funds him: Only 10 percent from small individual contributions the rest from Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse Group, Morgan Stanley, HIG Capital, Barclays, Kirkland & Ellis, Bank of America, Price Waterhouse Coopers, EMC Corp, JPMorgan Chase. The elite want him, that should scare all of you, why doesn’t it?

I will continue to point this out everywhere. I also am beginning to think that the elite are fixing the voting process as they have the money and power to do so. The polls are bogus for the most part, Rassmussen is the elite, I never give their polls any credence. All media polls are bias. People really need to wake up.

After considering the Ologarchy establishment GOP’s strategy by dividing the base vote and shuving a liberal down our throats just like last election might I suggest a strategy just as good and should make the conservatives and Constitutionalists happy too. It works like this:
      1. Santourum, Gingrich, Perry supporters all vote for Ron Paul in NH. This defeats Romney there.
      2. Ron Paul, Gingrich, Perry, Huntsman Supporters vote for Santourum in NC. THat defeats Romney there.
      3. We reassess each state this way for the non-Romney leader until Romney is mathmatically out of the race and then we call off the truce and have successfully stopped the scheme against us.

If we split the conservative vote 4 ways against one establishment Romney, Romney wins that just as McCain did. We ALL know this.
Glenn, Rush, Teaparty, etc. are you listening?

“The public mind is not owned by us. It is owned and managed by the state itself and for a precise purpose: to perpetuate the idea that we have all chosen the regime that rules us. That is why there is so little difference between the political parties. As Higgs puts it, the U.S. has “two revolving factions of a one-party state farcically masquerade as authentic alternatives, the one specializing in crushing economic freedom and the other concentrating on crushing every other form of freedom.”

I know everyone wants values to be at the forefront. But before anything, we’re in a serious Economic crisis. Somebody has to fix this crap ass situation Obama and these crack pot Progressives have in place. I’m voting for Santorum first, but at the very least, if he doesn’t get the support, I’m voting for Romney. That’s whay he surrounds his office with Marxists of the same ilk. Unfortunately Perry would never stand a chance in primary because he believes in God, guns, the Constitution and actually has a long track record for creating jobs (real jobs); none of which is popular with most of the left coast and yankee coast welfare and union freeloaders who will sell their souls to get one more dollar that someone else earned.

Perry= Dunce BECAUSE he believe the Preident has the power to cut congress’s pay etc. NEWSFLASH…he doesn’t. (Either he’s a political dunce or thinks you are)

Gingrich has convictions because he has a political record of keeping his word (Contract with America, everything came up for a vote & something like 90% passed); as to his personal life…get over it. This is nothing new & many morally questionable men have been presidents to good effect.

Romney says he believes that marriage is “between a man & a woman” but SIGNED it into law..a man of conviction wouldn’t have signed that, made the legislature override a veto maybe..but not sign it.
He appointed questionable judges..to go along politically with the legislature.

Obama will KILL Romney on the conviction issue alone, Obama is a believer & that will carry weight.

“A man like that believes hard & never asks why!”

Like it or not, Romney is a political oppurtunist, Gingrich alienated Democrats, Republicans, & the Media fighting for his beliefs/promises; Santorum is also a believer..either man is a better choice.

I agree 100%, blows my mind why Public Unions can be lawfully challenged as having a conflict of interest if they are going to campaign for candidates. They contribute millions of dollars and 10,’s of 1,000′s man hours to a candidates campaign so they insure getting their raises and keeping their benefits maxed out. All the while, it is the tax payer paying for these outrageous salary’s. Pittsburgh is a prime example, as our city is running out of things to sell and items to tax, their problem isn‘t paying the current salary’s but paying for the ridiculous promises of past politicians that enacted the unsustainable retirement packages. PATT bus, which is the worst type, part private/part public funded, pays as much to their retired work force as they do the employees who are currently working. I mean, it drive me insane as the only bus company allowed to operate in the city, can‘t ever make it’s budget even with the state and local government funding nearly 138 million of their operating budget. Plus they charge the patrons. I mean, how do you run a company like that ? Of course, the unions back the campaigns of those who make sure this scandal keeps going on at the tax payers expense. I am tired of these public unions, they have destroyed America in more ways than can be counted. Not only bankrupting the public but also gaining privileged to work, thus, driving out the private sector. Taking 2 years to do one years work at 4 times the cost.

Gingrich is the ONE outstanding candidate who fits the bill as a REAL Leader.
The media ignore, argue, goad and cut him off because they KNOW he has all the facts.
They bristle at him & brush him aside because his logic & intelligence
makes all the others pale & inferior.

American people don’t want Romney shoved down their throats by the RNC old guard

Tea Party governors like Nicki Haley of S.C. also should be held accountable

People like Haley benefited from Tea Party support & then kowtowed to the RNC-
there is something totally disturbing about that….she’s an ungrateful user.

Put the power back into the hands of the American people

and a STRONG, WISE LEADER can defeat Obama & defend America.

He will put together a dynamic cabinet, he is smart, clever & creative-
there is NO question that our country will be in good hands.

When it comes to presidential timber-
nothing about the man matters except his ability & capability of leading America
and love for country….everything else will follow & fall in line.

Newt is not the right guy. Did you all forget about “right wing social engineering”? Have you not heard him attack Romney for being a successful businessman. He is not conservative. Have you ever looked at his record? Seriously people.

“The ONLY one who consistently comes across as a take charge conservative leader is Newt, warts and all”

First of all he doesn’t come off as the most conservative. That one is obvious it was Michelle Bachman who is no longer in the reach with Rick coming in a second. Have you not looked into Newts record? This guy has been on the left to many times to count. Did you not know that he praised Romney for Romneycare. Oops forgot that one didn’t you. This is the same guy that criticized Ryans plan stating that it was “right wing social engineering” its also the same guy that attacks Romney for being successful in business. This guy uses the same arguments a liberal would make to a businessman. He is not fully converted to capitalism. I am pretty sure that most conservatives believe in capitalism last time I checked. Also, isn’t it interesting how none will back Newt. Everyone who has worked closely with Newt will not support him. Why? Because they guy would make a great professor but not commander and chief.

Somwhere along the line these folks have bought the “bill of goods” sold by the media that Romney is the most electable.
From what I‘ve seen that’s exactly what Obama & the Left wants…Romney has no convictions & doesn’t even want to take a government hands-off approach with the economy..last night he said that he was more able to control the economy..he wouldn’t remove Obamas regs..he’d CHANGE them…WRONG ANSWER.

Gingrich has been saying that he would impliment economic policy based on WHAT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO WORK, as opposed to thinking he’s the second coming; that is the kind of thinking I approve of.
We have hundreds of years of data to draw on, & yet we keep thinking that some new twist, or personality, will be a cure all. B.S. lets have the common sense to elect someone who understands that greatness only comes “by standing on the shoulders of giants”.
The USA was a great country once, we were obviously doing something right…lets be smart enough to do so again.

All the above points given are well taken but I did say “comes across as”. Newt’s always the strongest one in the room tho. All the other candidates have problems with their past records too, so who is there to get solidly behind?? No one?? That’s what Im afraid of. Newt should answer for every charge made against him here…in front of a conservative panel of expert historians no less. All the candidates should face the music in regards to their records. I can be forgiving and am definitely more interested in where candidates are versus where they have been. They have all lived but have they learned?? Are they ALL liars and scammers or perhaps just boring and out of their element?? I sure as hell don’t know, but hope to find out soon. If not, it’s 4 more years of Obama. In that case, I won’t even want to be in this country anymore.

No Ole..They convinced a liberal to change his affiliation to Conservative..Rick is no conservative at heart. The people think he has done such a great job in Texas..He has taken alot of taxpayer money to imprison illegals for which Texas is handsomely paid. and Texas has a whole lot of immigration..loads of muslims..the last I know of were the black Somalians..they bring them over and put them to work..They were placed by the Catholic Church is what I was told. Rick said in the previous debates that it is our responsibility to educate these illegals and if we didn‘t feel the responsibilty then we didn’t have a heart. We spend 338.3 billion a year on illegals in the form of welfare and education..Rick want them (us to pay approx $25 thousnand per illegal for a college education while we for ourselves pay approx. $125 thousand per citizen..All chump change right? Immigration laws and there enforcement are the responsibility of the Federal Government. Rick Perry is only a Gov NOT the President>>not yet :) Obama.instead of working WITH Gov Perry is working AGAINST him. Gov Rick Perry has spent almost 400 million of in state dollars trying to do the government’s job FOR them. Obama and his Department of InJustice are much more concerned with suing states.

Gov Rick Perry has also been endorsed by America’s Sheriff…Sheriff Joe and Gov Perry has also put Sheriff Joe in charge of his campaign in Arizona…
