Watch Live: Jon Huntsman Jr. Declares Candidacy at Liberty State Park

Watch live streaming video from jon2012 at livestream.com

The Associated Press reports on the announcement:

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Calling the condition of America “totally unacceptable,” former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman is formally entering the 2012 Republican presidential sweepstakes, promising new jobs, energy independence and a simpler tax code.

“For the first time in our history, we are about to pass down to the next generation a country that is less powerful, less compassionate, less competitive and less confident than the one we got,” Huntsman says in excerpts of a speech he‘s giving Tuesday morning as he declares he’s joining the race to make Barack Obama a one-term president.

Huntsman is the eighth candidate to officially enter the race, joining former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., former pizza company entrepreneur Herman Cain, Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

There has been speculation that Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani might also jump in.

In the excerpts of the announcement speech Huntsman was giving at Liberty State Park in New Jersey, he said he respects Obama, whom he served as ambassador to China, but added that he and the president have “a difference of opinion on how to help the country we both love.”

“But the question each of us wants the voters to answer is, `Who will be the better president, not who’s the better American.’ ”

Huntsman chose the same site where another former western governor, Ronald Reagan of California, announced his candidacy in 1980.

Just watch the media dance on tables to glorify this GOP candidate.
    Does that seem normal ?
Independents and moderates have a candidate again but they can have him.

This guy exemplify what a RINO is. He really puts the “R” in Rino! We do not need another McCain failed candidacy and that’s what this man, Huntsman, will bring.

Well Jon, I disagree with you. No self respecting American can possibly have respect for this guy–Obama– in the white house. I think he is a communist and a globalist and he is hell bent on destroying this nation. It is clear what is going on and how this man–Obama– continues to attempt to destroy our middle class because it represents the power of this nation. Once destroyed, America will never be the same. Why? The answer is simple because the world “Left” have united in a final push to destroy U.S.

So Jon, you think being civil is the answer. I say call it for what it is. Tell people the truth and even my broom can win against this guy.

    Jon, thanks no thanks.

Huntsman and Romney could take the same route that was taken by Steve Benson, of the Arizona Republic year’s ago, They could throw their family‘s and their religon under the bus and become immediate superstar’s of the asinine media, After all benson got the pulitzer for giveing up ever thing he belived in.

He is the current administration’s choice to pick up where they have left off. How do we know this?

Because they have put out notice that “He is the one they are afraid of.” LIE! They are only afraid of WE THE PEOPLE, Allen West, Sarah Palin, maybe Cain and Bachmann. No one else frightens them at all, except maybe Glenn, and THANK GOD he isn’t running for office. We need somebody out here where WE THE PEOPLE are.

    Continuing with my list:
He (huntsman) is way too slick.
He lies and speaks those lies as truth.
I‘m sorry he is Glenn’s friend’s son. (All families have black sheep, don’t we?)

Then they will say here is who you need to stand behind, because he is a “REPUBLICAN”. Eat your slop. We are sick of Republican and Democrat garbage. No more McCain’s, Bush’s, or Dole’s! Amen to that Eliasim above. The Republican Party has become corrupt. How is that they keep throwing up their favorite children, their liberal brats and ask us to support them. Look at the last presidential candidates. The top three were not even conservatives. McCain was so liberal John Kerry almost chose him for VP. Romney brought the same dream to Massachusetts as Obama brought to the USA, he did try to put on some makeup and a new dress to look conservative. Huckabee ran his state of Arkansas just like any self-respecting Democrat would.

Look at the Republican national platform itself. It is not something that I could uphold with a clear conscience. Sorry, but it is time to quit wasting our votes. We need to look to something we can stand behind and not have to try to justify it in our minds. That is why I have joined the Constitution Party.

It is time to weed the garden before there is no garden left! Jon is a weed. Sometimes he tries to look like a pretty flower, but anyone that knows what Morning Glory looks like will know that it a very bad weed that will choke your garden if you let it. Lets pull him before he ruins the garden.

There‘s something a bit creepy about the outward appearance of this dude that I can’t finger yet. Maybe it’s the fact that he looks a helluva lot like Colin Cowherd.

At any rate, major RINO. Extolling the virtues of cap and trade was one of his Waterloos, as was declaring the stimulus packages not being large enough.

Huntsman did not have the courage to either admit or repudiate his religious beliefs. This spineless, political response to a direct question disqualifies him for the presidency. His father may have groomed him for the presidency, but Junior lacks what it takes to be a leader.

@hauschild: You’re right. There is something creepy. He’s got a weird prissiness about him. And whenever he is on camera, he looks like he’s straining to catch a glimpse of his fabulous reflection in the lens. There was an article online this morning saying that Huntsman is the favorite of the Log Cabin Republicans. Maybe there’s a connection to the creepiness, and maybe not. Who knows?
