SEATTLE (The Blaze/AP) — Amanda Knox returned to her hometown of Seattle on Tuesday with four years in an Italian prison behind her, the stabbing death of her roommate still a mystery and the media frenzy surrounding her case as strong on U.S. soil as it was in Europe.
Fox News provides the video of Knox and her family as they speak out at a press conference Tuesday:
Friends and family who held spaghetti dinners, bowling events and concerts to raise money for Knox’s defense were thrilled to have her home, but her supporters were a small presence at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport compared to the media: dozens of U.S. and international reporters, along with cameras and satellite trucks.
Knox’s life turned around dramatically Monday when an Italian appeals court threw out her conviction in the sexual assault and fatal stabbing of her British roommate. On Tuesday a courtroom picture of Knox crying after the verdict was read appeared on the front pages of newspapers in Italy, the U.S., Britain and around the world.
The court’s decision, fueled by doubts over DNA evidence, stunned the victim’s family and angered the prosecution, which insists that she was among three people who killed 21-year-old Meredith Kercher. But for Knox’s grandmother Elisabeth Huff, “it was like the weight of the world had gone.”
“We all are as happy as can be. I can‘t tell you how long we’ve been looking forward to this day,” Huff told The Associated Press outside her home in West Seattle, a tight-knit community a few miles across Elliott Bay from downtown.
“WELCOME HOME AMANDA,” read the marquee at a record store in the neighborhood where Knox grew up. Another welcome sign was hung at her father’s house. A bar offered half-price drinks to celebrate her acquittal. At least one TV station in Washington state tracked the progress of her flight on the air using a plane-tracking website.
Knox, 24, left Perugia’s Capanne prison Monday night amid cheers that a companion compared to those at a soccer stadium.
Hundreds of inmates – most of them in the men’s wing – shouted “Amanda, ciao!“ and ”Freedom!” as she walked into the central courtyard, said Corrado Maria Daclon, head of the Italy-US Foundation, which championed Knox’s cause. Daclon said Knox jumped a little for joy and waved to the prisoners.
She was soon on her way home, protected by the darkened windows of a Mercedes that led her out of the prison in the middle of the night, and then Tuesday morning to Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci airport. She flew from Rome to London, where she took a direct British Airways flight to Seattle, flying business class with full-length seat and menu options including champagne, smoked salmon and prawn salad.
She and her family were on the plane’s secluded upper deck. At least nine members of media organizations were on board below, but a flight attendant blocked them from climbing the stairs “to preserve the privacy” of passengers.
As the plane neared Seattle, the flight crew told reporters that once the plane landed, they would have to remain seated while customs officials escorted Knox and her entourage out of the plane. “You will not see her,” the cabin crew chief said.
After the plane landed, Knox and her family were taken by shuttle van to go through customs. Knox’s family planned to hold a news conference after the plane landed late Tuesday afternoon, but it was unclear whether Knox herself would speak then.
At the airport, 16-year-old Amra Plavcic shook her head at the dozens of reporters setting up for the news conference, within sight of the gate where Knox’s plane was to land.
“I don’t think this is important. It’s way too much,” said Plavcic, who was with her mother awaiting a relative who was on Knox’s flight.
Knox was a University of Washington student studying abroad in Perugia when Kercher was killed in 2007.
“Those who wrote, those who defended me, those who were close, those who prayed for me,” Knox wrote in a letter released just hours before she left Italy, “I love you.”
Knox thanked those Italians “who shared my suffering and helped me survive with hope,” in a letter to the Italy-US Foundation, which seeks to promote ties between the two countries.
“We’ve spent a lot of time waiting,” her uncle Michael Huff said in Seattle. “We’re planning a big hug. We’ll see day to day how it goes. She’s going to have to get acclimated. She’s a strong kid.”
Kerchner’s family said during an emotional news conference Tuesday that they were back to “square one.”
“If those two are not the guilty parties, then who are the guilty people?” asked Lyle Kercher, a brother of the victim.
Prosecutor Giuliano Mignini expressed disbelief at the innocent verdicts of Knox and her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. He said he will appeal to Italy’s highest criminal court after receiving the reasoning behind the acquittals, due within 90 days.
“Let’s wait and we will see who was right. The first court or the appeal court,” Mignini told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “This trial was done under unacceptable media pressure.”
Prosecutors maintain that Knox, Sollecito and another man killed Kercher during a lurid, drug-fueled sex game. Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison and Sollecito received 25, but the prosecution’s case was blown apart by a DNA review ordered during the appeals trial that discredited crucial genetic evidence.
Prosecutors maintain that Knox’s DNA was found on the handle of a kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon, and that Kercher’s DNA was found on the blade. They said Sollecito‘s DNA was on the clasp of Kercher’s bra as part of a mix of evidence that also included the victim’s genetic profile.
But an independent review – ordered at the request of the defense – found that police conducting the investigation had made glaring errors. The two experts said below-standard testing and possible contamination raised doubts over the attribution of DNA traces, both on the blade and on the bra clasp, which was collected from the crime scene 46 days after the murder.
The review was crucial to throwing out the convictions because no motive has emerged and witness testimony was contradictory.
The highest court will determine whether any procedures were violated. The hearing generally takes one day in Rome, and defendants are not required to attend.
If the highest court overturns the acquittal, prosecutors would be free to request Knox’s extradition. It would be up to the government to decide whether to make the formal extradition request.
One conviction in the slaying still stands: that of Ivory Coast native Rudy Hermann Guede. His lawyer said Tuesday he will seek a retrial.
Guede was convicted in a separate fast-track procedure and saw his sentence cut to 16 years in his final appeal. He says he is innocent, though he admits being in the house the night of the murder.
The highest court, in upholding Guede’s conviction, said he had not acted alone. But it did not name Knox and Sollecito as Guede’s accomplices, saying it was not up to the court to determine that.
Kercher’s family was perplexed. Monday’s decision “obviously raises further questions,” Lyle Kercher said.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 6:24amVery disappointed with Glenn’s comments on this and I am a big fan. Anyone who looks at this case and reads the full extent of the trial and papers will see that Amanda is involved. Glenn made a statement that she is completely innocent. I suspect that he made the statement based on emotion and he is wrong to do that. he should base his statement on fact… he tells us that often enough.

Amanda and her boyfriend both get off (in more ways than one apparently) and yet a stabbed to death girl in their apartment was killed by who then? Herself? Something’s fishy here. What a coincidence that we have another good looking female, and no charges.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 9:15amWhat was this woman doing around drugs and a murder? Whereas she may not be guilty of murder, she knows more than what she’s telling. I think it was very arrogant that you involve yourself in something and instead of apologizing to those who you have inconvenienced and caused great stress, you stand before the press and thank everyone for their support.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 9:31amReally surprised by all the hate for this girl. One could easily argue that the only reason she was convicted in the first place was due to general Italian resentment toward Americans.
I don‘t think she did it just because the crime doesn’t fit. Was she sex crazed and into drugs? Possibly, I don’t know. But multiple stabbing and throat slitting is pretty much unheard of from a small framed woman (regardless of how many drugs she had or hadn’t taken). The particulars of the crime do fit the Ivorian drug dealer who was also convicted, but only given a 16 year sentence. She might have known what happened, but refused to say. Perhaps the drug dealer’s associates threatened to kill her if she talked…who knows. I think she’s guilty of being stupid, but not of murder. Be careful of the friends you keep. It only cost her 4 years this time, but in the old days, they would have hung her along with the drug dealer and the boyfriend, regardless of whether she did the stabbing or not if it were proven that she was present at the time of the killing.

1) What I’ve read about this case does not convince me that she did it. Could you provide some links to the evidence you’re referring to? The media has certainly painted her as innocent.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 12:36pmI have not heard anything on GBtv about this Knox case. I will say this, I would not be surprised if Glenn gave support for Amanda Knox. The reason for this is his religious beliefs. Glenn is a Mormon and his religious affiliation makes him susceptible to external demonic influence.
If a angel of light comes to you and inspires prophecy or you to rewrite the bible you may want to double check which morning star you’re looking to. Angel Moroni is Lucifer or at least a constituent of the leader of demons.
This Knox in my opinion is of Legion and since they are coming together for their demonic assembly they are being released into the world to do their hellish will. Beck knows a lot but even he is mislead with his faith because Mormonism appeals to men and women who have insecurities regarding family.
Respect Glenn but do not trust him. Not until he disowns his religion and puts his faith in the scriptures of the holy bible alone. I don’t know Glenn, I do love him. I’m happy that he was able to become self reliant without Fox news people breathing done his neck.
Just listen to Glenn when he says do your homework and don’t take everything he says as absolute until you research it for yourself.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 2:18pmI don’t see Amanda Knox as a sociopath or killer. Casey Anthony probably is both and got off because the prosecutor overstepped. I see Miss Knox as a stupid brat from a decent family and she hung around with the wrong people. Added to that, the system of justice in Italy allows for the prosecution to portray a defendent in a very unfair manner without the support of material facts, somewhat like the media. I think that a lot of decent people have stupid brats who hang around with the wrong people. In any event, for her being with the killer she probably deserved 4 years but surely not a long term sentence.

Please research a religion properly. Go to the source. I am a Latter Day Saint, same as Glenn. We do not discredit the Bible. The Bible has the life and Ministry of Christ which is key in my religion. I love the Bible. But I also believe in other records, like the Book of Mormon. It is another testament of Jesus Christ and a record of an ancient people who lived in the Americas who traveled from Jerusalem. I invite you to read it. Please read it then tell me if it comes from the devil or not.
Also, Glenn is human. He is doing his best to uncover the truth to warn us all. That is why he left Fox. So he can give the truth and his opinions without hurting a network. I respect him for that.

Good god people, you spend all your time raging against various abuses of freedom but you seem to be perfectly willing to abuse it when it doesnt suit you. That is the problem with america right now. Its not a Dem or Repub problem but a problem where people abandon the constitution for selfish means.
The fact is, she was found not guilty by a court of law. If you arent willing to accept that then I hope you will be just as willing to put yourself up for trial by public opinion when you get arrested. Precedents like the one being set here are on the dangerous road to tyranny.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 9:10amI will confess to slamming others for their opinions before I familiarized myself with the case. Stupid. My bad.
Still, the evidence of her character notwithstanding (and I’m not sure what I can trust about that) two things strike me as odd about the prosecution’s case:
The forensic evidence against the man, Guede, still in prison was strong. That‘s why his conviction wasn’t overturned. Yet there was no such convincing forensic evidence to connect Knox and her boyfriend that could stand up on appeal. And there apparently wasn‘t much forensic evidence on the victim’s body of the two, but there was of Guede. How could that be? How could she erase her DNA from the body and leave that guy’s still there.
From the prosecution’s case neither of the three knew each other for long, Knox only knew her boyfriend a couple of weeks, and neither of them knew Guede previously. How is it that neither of them has flipped on the other? People of such sleezy character generally aren’t above ratting out their friends let alone a little know accomplice, not if it might reduce their sentences.

I too have followed this case and as law enforcement agent who works violent crime investigations, I don’t think she had anything to do with this crime, and the Ivory Coast national drug dealer is the sole culpret. No DNA linking her or her boyfriend to the crime scene, and a motive completely made up by the prosecutor. This was a rush-to-judgement by an over-zealous prosecutor, similar to the Duke LaCrosse Team case, making evidence and motive up. Their only evidence is a “half-baked confession” from Knox, who did not completely understand the questioning for over 5 hours with no translator, This confession would be supressed in our courts. It sounds like you’ve been smoking the same stuff that Amanda was in Italy or have simply been brainwashed by all the pro-Amanda stories that have been put out there by the media that leave out all the *actual* details (thank God O’Reilly finally had a segment about this BS with some sane people on it tonight). If you think she’s so innocent as you say, then how do you answer the following?
1) Amanda admits to Italian police details of the crime scene even though the door to the bathroom was locked from the inside. How would she know about these unless she was there? She obviously wasn’t told by the police about it.
Report Post »2) How do you explain Amanda’s shoe print in the crime scene, something the prosecution never refuted? This proves she was at least there when it happened.
3) Amanda and Raffaelle staged a fake burglary. Only problem is the glass was broken from the inside, clearly a sign of a botched cover up.
4) How could the bathroom be locked when only person inside was Meredith.
5) Amanda confessed to police of being present at the scene of the murder, then recanted and constantly lied and changed her story.
6) Amanda falsely accused an innocent man (Patrick Lamumba) of murdering Meredith.
7) Amanda was seen laughing, in good spirits, lovey-dovey with her 1.5 week boyfriend Raffaelle, and shopping for lingerie the very same day of the murder—not a typical response when you’re roommate was just brutally murdered.
Common Sense Jedi
Posted on October 5, 2011 at 4:22am8) A witness testified Amanda went to a store to buy cleaning supplies the morning after Meredith’s murder. When questioned by police, Amanda lied and said she was sleeping at Raffaelle’s at that time. Also, Raffaelle’s home smelled of bleach when the police arrived to investigate. The cleaning lady who cleaned his place testified she never used bleach when cleaning his place.
9) Amanda was seen doing cartwheels and the splits at the police station when brought 4 questioning. Nothing screams party like a murdered roommate!
10) Both the police and evidence showed that the murder of Meredith could not have happened by just Rudy Geude because there were no defensive wounds on the victim.
The Knox family waged a multi-million dollar PR campaign to free their daughter and it looks like it was succssful, though I‘m hoping the prosecution’s appeal just made today will put Amanda back in prison. The investigators *possibly* contaminated DNA, though even if you take out the DNA component of this trial, based on the above, at the very least Amanda *had* to have been at the murder scene and knew what happened.
Finally, aside from *actually* raping or murdering someone, falsely accusing an innocent person of these crimes like Amanda did is w/o question 1 of the most despicable things a person can do, and this speaks volumes about her character. It makes me sick that this complete slut/psyhopath is in all likelyhood going to make millions of dollars off her story now. Shame o

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 10:24pmWell, I haven‘t followed the case any closer than Casey Anthony’s case. If Knox isn’t guilty of murder, she is an accomplice at the very least and she was involved in a twisted sex trio or whatever it was. She is a dirt bag and is now being welcomed back home as a hero. How about welcoming home our hero troops and let Knox slink back to her disgusting lifestyle?

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 3:41amAGREED! But letting Knox slink back in to her disgusting lifestyle? Anyone want to go on a sleepover with her or let her watch your kids? Didn’t think so…let us pray she won’t harm anyone else. She played a role of some sort and has shown absolutely no remorse since day 1. Few people die the horrible and traumatic and messy death that Meredith Kercher did. God have mercy on her soul and prayers to the KERCHER FAMILY.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 3:48amFor those of you who say you’ve followed this but wonder why she is being called sleazy, you really haven’t followed it. How about the riot she was in (throwing rocks at cars and windows in Seattle) before she left for Italy? Sex on the bus, her writings on MYSPACE page before she left. Guede was a FRIEND of Knox. How many nice American girls have a friend like that? How many choose to work at a sleazy bar in a foreign country? Kercher had complained to her friends – and all of this is part of the 4000 page testimony from the FIRST trial – that she was upset with sharing a house with Knox due to her promiscuity and her uncleanliness? She had even told her friends she was going to confront Knox about leaving feces in and around the shared toilet. Just conveying stuff from the testimony. Not gossip. That is where the “sleazy” remarks originate.

Posted on October 5, 2011 at 8:51amI am not so sure she is being welcomed back as a hero. I think people would like to hear her side of the story. Someone killed that girl. I would like to hear how she thinks blood got on the bottom of her shoes. Her fingerprints would be on any kitchen utensils if she lived there. I would want to hear her explanation of what she think happened if she didn’t have anything to do with it. I am not deciding her guilt or innocence, and I am certainly not welcoming her as a hero. Who is doing that?

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 10:16pmHow can she be found guilty four years ago and now innocent? Corruption as usual (O.J. and Casey Anthony). Someone made a lot of money! In the meantime, the victim’s family went home without justice being done and no satisfying answers. Knox will probably get a book deal, appear on all talk shows etc. SICK!

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 10:27pmIf she was truly guilty then why didn’t she receive a life sentence the first time around? The courts knew the had no evidence on her. When you rush something you don’t get the satisfaction of knowing the job was done right, and once you realize the job wasn‘t done right then you don’t want to have to own up and face those consequences. She is innocent, and as a fellow American you should be happy to have one of your own back on our soil. God bless this young lady and welcome home!

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 10:38pmAgnes, have you never heard of a miscarriage of justice? Such things can be discovered and corrected in appeals.
Your first sentence is frankly idiotic and unChristian, as well as unAmerican. We are supposed to assume innocense until guilt is proven. If the apeals court say later that it wasn’t proven why would you inist the original court was right. Do you just like to judge people. Shame on you.

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 10:02pmRecently we had the West Memphis three released from prison for the alleged satanic murder of three boys in the 90′s. With this second black mass murder committed on Hallow‘s Mass or All Saint’s Day in 2007, Involving Knox and her boyfriend, it makes you wonder if something else is responsible for the reversal of these once convicted murder’s fates. Maybe both cases are involving wrongly accused or maybe Lucifer is making good for his end of the bargain. Released from incarceration to find a welcoming fan base and new opportunities with their new found celebrity. Something always promised by the dark arts is fame and fortune. Any of these young people can now make money on their story since the convictions were over turned. I can feel it in the air, covering the whole world, it’s like we are waiting for a supernatural explosion to knock us all to our knees.

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 10:29pmOne interesting detail about Amanda and Meredith‘s relationship that came out at the initial stages of the investigation was Amanda’s girly bag filled with sex objects bothering Meredith. Why would a free spirited party girl from London be upset about her roommates carnal toys? Unless she was a virgin? Maybe Meredith really was the goody girl who felt pressured by her peers to be more wreckless with her sexuality. Meredith’s virginity may make her a more suitable sacrifice during those days surrounding Halloween. Legion is running wild at the end of October and influences all who participate in the festival because Legion runs on a collective base.

Posted on October 4, 2011 at 9:51pmGood question, but it wasn‘t her and she didn’t deserve to be locked up for 4 years of her life. I got married and had a kid in the last 4 years. That is 4 years of her life, she won’t ever get back.
She and her family live about a mile away from me and they are the kind of people who you could trust with your life. Just hope the media gives her space. If she becomes a big celebrity it will be because the media made her that, not by her choice.

You want proof of Amanda Knox being a complete sleeze/slut? Well here you go—and these are FACTS openly admitted by Amanda to police and in court and corroborated by Meredith’s best friend Natalie Hayward, as well as countless other news sources:
1. At 20 years of age, Amanda had s#x with *7* people.
2. Of the 7 people Amanda had s#x with, 4 of them were while she was “studying” in Italy—OVER A 1 MONTH TIMEFRAME, ONE OF WHICH WAS ON A TRAIN (confirmed to police, in her diary, and in an e-mail she sent to a friend).
3. Of the 7 people Amanda had s#x with, 1 of them—co-defendent Raffaele Sollecito—she had only known for less than 1 week.
4. A sore spot with Amanda’s roommate Meredith (besides all the dudes she was bringing home to hook up with) was Amanda’s keeping a bag containing a clearly visible vibr@tor out in the open in their bathroom.
5. Speaking of sore spots, it‘s clear to anyone looking at Amanda’s court photos that she has oral herpes—you can do the math there.
6. On the VERY SAME day Italian police closed off her place of stay, Amanda goes lingerie/th0ng shopping with Raffaelle.
7. On her MySpace page, she placed a picture of a n@ked friend (probable lover) she met in Italy named Federico.
8. Amanda carries cond0ms with her whenever she goes out. 3 of the 7 dudes she had s#x with did not use them.
Does the above prove Amanda killed Meredith? No. But it CLEARLY indicates the woman’s a complete SLUT! Do your homework n

Please. With the exception of a few sane people out there, 99.9% of the American media coverage paints Amanda as a sweet, innocent, naive young girl who was abused by the evil Italian police and judicial system, which is so far from the truth it’s rediculous. Lots of people, including the person I was replying to, know nothing of the details of this case because of the multi-million dollar PR campaign put out there by the Knox family.
As far as your comment goes, I’d rather not wh0re myself around like Amanda does and pick up an STD(s) like she has. Amanda was tricked (reprehensibly I might add) by the Italian police that she had AIDS, which is how they learned of her promiscuity, especially in Italy. With the rate at which she’s going (again s#x with 4 dudes in just 1 “study abroad” month in Italy), her drug use, and her indifference to safe s#x, I‘m sure it’s only a matter of time before she picks up something worse than herpes. Envious? I don’t think so, but go ahead and believe that if it makes you happy.
