Obama: The Egyptian People Have ‘Inspired’ America

In delivering prepared remarks Friday afternoon, President Barack Obama hailed the will of protesters as they cheered the resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo’s Tahrir Square.
Quoting Martin Luther King, Jr., Obama remarked that “there something in the soul that cries out for freedom,” and praised Egyptians for inspiring Americans, having “bent the arc of history” and putting “lie to the idea that justice must be gained through violence.“ In reflecting on images of parents carrying their children on their shoulders to show them what ”freedom” looks like, the American president echoed protesters’ chants in Arabic, translated as “we are peaceful.”
He also remarked how the protests in Egypt brought together people of different faiths, noting how they are united “by the common humanity that we share.”
Speaking from the Grand Foyer of the White House, Obama‘s remarks did little to reassure America’s allies in the region and avoided speculating what the future of the Egyptian government might look like. The president’s press conference reportedly followed a meeting with his national security advisers in the White House Situation Room.
The president concluded that the United States of America “will continue to be a friend and partner to Egypt.”

I see a lot of right wing maddness on this issue, especially so far in this thread.
I hate Obama! I want him gone. I am pure tea party, fundamental Christian.
That said, no matter what Obama did or said, most of you folks would lash out. My analysis is what I said above, no matter what is going on under the surface, Obama said what he had to in the speech. He reassured the Egyptian people that he supports them. Period end of story.
Do you people realize what would have happened had Mubarak not stepped down? Do you realize how close they came to a bloody revolt? Had that happened, do you have the slightest clue how that would have effected us? Oil would have shot up…Provided the Suez Canal stayed open. You think $3 a gallon gas is bad? Do you know what $5 or more a gallon would do to this country? Have you been grocery shopping lately? You are worried about Islamic phantoms while neglecting the real danger right under your noses!
This is not a good situation! The Muslim Broitherhood is a very real danger. But y’all need to put down the kool-aide and pay attention to what is happening. Obama has enough against him to hang him three times over, stop looking for trouble! Just this one time he did what needed done. I do not know what he has going on under the table, and I do not trust him as far as I can spit. But this particular speech was adequate.

Posted on February 11, 2011 at 4:57pmPretty low expectations, huh?
obama made it crystal clear to the middle east that America is no longer a power to be reckoned with. When the (former) leader of the free world gets his intel from the media, and the head of our “secret service” has no clue who we’re even dealing with – it‘s pretty apparent that we’re in serious trouble, and we have no leadership.
This is a repeat of Iraq – it‘s a death knell for Israel and it’s a signal to all the anti-American two bit dictators all over the world…….America will sit by, obscure the truth of the motivation of the islamic terrorists, and lie to the American people about what is truly happening. This was organized by leftists, socialists and the muslim brotherhood, it is not a spontaneous “youthful demonstration” ~ and it is the beginning of something huge in the middle east – and it WILL come here.
You can choose to pretend everything is just peachy keen, but the rest of us “stupid, fundamentalist Christians” know that this doesn’t keep that $5 a gallon gas at bay, it won’t bring stability to the region, and it won’t keep freedom, Israel or America safe. And our “leaders” had no clue.

Posted on February 11, 2011 at 4:57pm“I don‘t listen to Obama because I don’t listen to anyone I know has lied to me.”
True enough! It is just a bunch of words!
What did y’all want Obama to say? Should he have supported Mubarak? Who was already ousted and despite his relations with us and Israel was nothing but a dictator…Or was Obama supposed to have remained silent not said anything? What do you folks want? No matter what he did it would have been wrong, including doing nothing. I am really perplexed how some posts in here even insinuate that this is all his fault! What? Egypt is beyond our control…And even if we could send in an army or otherwise strong-arm them…Does anyone in this board really think that is a wise idea?
Support the people, help them as much as we can short of sending them money…and most important, STAND WITH ISRAEL! That is of paramount importance at this juncture!
The US has consistently fugged things up in the world by constantly meddling in the affairs of everyone else. Maybe it is time to just let Egypt take care of Egypt…Even if that means Sharia law…and deal with them diplomatically as best as we can?

“What did I want obama to say? I wanted him to say “I realize my administration and I are in WAY over our heads, so I quit, and let’s put the grownups in charge” but that ain’t gonna happen.”
No, it aint. Let’s be reasonable. Like it or not he won the election. We have to live with him for another couple years.
” I would have felt better if he actually KNEW what was happening……but again, that ain’t gonna happen.”
Again, you are right…It aint gonna happen. Honestly though, you have no idea what is really going on here. We just know what is reported, none of us has any idea what is really happening…Probably including the administration.
” You seem to be all fat and happy with this administrations’ handling of this situation, so I don‘t know why I’m bothering with you”
Do I? Maybe you should read what I wrote again and what I have written in the other threads today! I said this SPEECH was adequate. You assume too much. What would I have done differently in his place? I do not know…Probably a more careful use of words at the least. But that does not matter, I am not in his place.
“– frankly, you’re not exactly capable of understanding complex issues,”
Really? That is also another most unfortunate assumption. From what I see here I understand this issue much better than you do. All you are doing is regurgitating Beck’s talking points. “The caliphate is coming, the caliphate is coming…” So what are you gonna do? ;-) This thing is so much bigger than you can even comprehend…
” so anything anyone other than an obamaphile is going to be over your head, anyway.”

Now, that all sounds very godly and patriotic and such…But it amounts to just so much BS. I know where I stand, and I am very forthright about it. I have made a stand here, against people I consider to be on my side, because I feel this situation is much more complicated than these “us or them” discussions can do justice. But what good does my opinion do to the man in the street in Egypt? Or Obama for that matter? I am just another voice in a very noisy forum. You need to learn perspective my friend.

How do you blame Obama for leaving a power vacuum? That is my whole point, what could he have done differently? He initially did support Mubarak, but wisely did not make much of an issue of it. Mubarak was asked to leave, it was a military coup. What is he supposed to do? He wisely showed his support for the people. Was he maybe a bit too “happy” about things? Yeah…But whatever he is a socialist revolutionary…

——
I often disagree with Kraut. For example, on this one. Military coup, my butt. How do you define a military coup, TT? Mubarak had the support of his military for thirty years! Beck is right when he says this revolution was instigated by Islamists AND commies. It had all the tell-tale signs: characterizing Mubarak as a “brutal dictator”; ascribing the revolution to young people seeking democracy and freedom, while the real (older) revolutionaries plotted behind the scenes; getting media focus on Egypt 24/7, and so forth.
If you don’t understand the devastating effect the mere election of Obama has had on the world, then you still cannot see the forest for the trees A weak American president emboldens the bad guys; a radical one like Obama works behind the scenes to destroy the free world. Obama has connections to all the radical scum in high places, and he took sides with the revolutionaries in Egypt, as soon as he saw they could defeat Mubarak.
You keep asking what Obama could have done, as if he had not played his part in the revolution and twisted the arm of the military. Don’t expect to hear that on TV. How do I know? Because he tried to do the exact same thing to tiny Honduras. There was a military coup there to depose a commie dictator wannabe set by Chavez-Castro. Obama ordered the Honduran military to step aside, but when they stood their ground, that filthy roach cut off all foreign aid to Honduras and tried to kill their tourism. Obama would have done the same to Egypt, but their military is greedy and corrupt and had allowed the protests to gain momentum, so they decided to go along with the tide.
If Obama were not a traitor, the world would currently be a safer place. Perhaps this revolution would never have taken place. Even then, he should have denounced/expressed concern about the Muslim Brotherhood. In addition, he should have abstained from highlighting the role of young people in this revolution, a move that tacitly encouraged the radicalization of young people in America. Like other rogue leaders, Obama wants to build his own civilian army of radicalized youth.
However, Obama is a despicable traitor, so when you ask what Obama could have done, you are asking the wrong question. That would be akin to a Christian asking, What could the devil have done? Glenn is giving you the right perspective when he talks about good vs. evil, or as you put it, “us” or “them”. Being a Christian should make it a lot easier for you to grasp this overarching truth, but for some reason you are focusing on discrete events. That is why you analyzed Obama’s speech and found it good. I issued you a challenge in that regard. You can ignore it if you like, but don’t accuse me of BSing you. Although this blog format is hardly conducive to in-depth discussions, I am not here to play games.
Are you aware that Panetta has “instructed agency station chiefs in the Middle East to intensify their intelligence-gathering efforts in countries where governments are potentially vulnerable? (Hmm, I thought Obama wasn’t going to meddle.) http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2672007/posts
Yemen and Algeria, ruled by commie dictators, are two such countries (I’m shocked). This short article will give you a general idea of how the real brutal dictators react to protests. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12441180

They are taught that morals and values do not come from GOD but from society and are flexible. Animals have more rights to life than babies. There is no sin just societal norms. The next generation does not have the same values and perspective of America that we have, and soon we will reap what we sowed.

Posted on February 11, 2011 at 6:20pmObama says that Egyptians have “inspired” Americans…REALLY?
According to a recent Pew poll, Egptians are extremely radical even in comparison to Jordan or Lebanon. When asked whether they preferred “Islamists” or “modernizers,” the score was 59% to 27% in favor of the Islamists. In addition, 20 percent said they liked al-Qaeda; 30 percent, Hezbollah; 49 percent, Hamas. And this was at a time that their government daily propagandized against these groups.
How about religious views? Egyptian Muslims said the following: 82 percent want adulterers punished with stoning; 77 percent want robbers to be whipped and have their hands amputated; 84 percent favor the death penalty for any Muslim who changes his religion.
In a democracy, of course, these views are going to be expressed by how people vote. Even if Egypt does not have an Islamist government, it might well end up with a radical regime that caters to these attitudes and incites violence abroad.
There are reasons not to expect Egypt to turn into a moderate, stable, and democratic state: There are few forces favoring this outcome; the rebellion has no organization; Egypt doesn’t have the resources to raise living standards and distribute wealth; extremist ideologies are deeply held and widely spread.
NOW…considering that the Progressives here in America probably DO agree with the above description of a “Democracy” and would LOVE to impose similar dictates here on our soil, they (the Progressives) are STILL (at 20%) outnumbered by conservatives and independents collectively…SO…Mr. President, don’t insult us any further with your idiotic comparisons! However, the Muslum Brotherhood called for Jihad with Israel; the Egyptian military is not so enthusastic about that idea; they’ve had their asses kicked FOUR times since 1948, and I don’t think they wanna try for five. Nasser took over in a military coup in the 1950′s; Sadat succeeded him; MB assasinated him and Mobaric is the left over. Don‘t get too wrapped up in this ’democracy’ thing just yet.
