In Address, Obama Says Debt Limit Uncertainty Keeping Businesses From HiringWASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — President Barack Obama says the uncertainty over whether lawmakers will raise the nation’s debt limit is keeping businesses from hiring.

Speaking in the Rose Garden, Obama says that once Congress reaches an agreement on the debt ceiling, businesses will have the confidence they need to add workers to their payrolls. CBS News has more:

Amid criticism from both the left and right, Mr. Obama opened his Rose Garden remarks by acknowledging that the economy – not the debt limit – is the top concern of most Americans. He said the jobs report “confirms what most Americans already know: We still have a long way to go and a lot of work to do to give people the security and opportunity that they deserve.”

He then pointed to the “tough headwinds” faced in recent months – including natural disasters, local budget cuts, economic trouble abroad and “uncertainty over whether the debt limit here in the United States will be raised,“ which he said has ”made businesses hesitant to invest more aggressively.”

The report out Friday morning showed employers added the fewest jobs in nine months and the unemployment rate rose to 9.2 percent. Congressional Republicans and GOP presidential hopefuls used the dismal report to slam Obama’s economic agenda.

The reports come as Democrats and Republicans near an urgent deadline to increase the nation’s borrowing power and prevent the U.S. from defaulting on its obligations.

    I am not trying to stick up for Obama, but I believe that if he had the power to “create” jobs that weren’t federal, he would do it.. he wants to be the most popular person in the world, of which by the way he acts is exactly the opposite. The only way jobs can be created are from the people who run businesses and people that have ownership over jobs that can actually be “created”. What Obama does have control over and most politicians elected have control over is how much taxes get taken from these people who create the jobs. That’s where the biggest downfall is right now. We the people are the bank right now for these big “leaders” in DC. The government is asking to raise the taxes on the wealthiest, and for what? Why do we need to raise taxes when we already spend way to much on frivolous crap. They (the Government) need to stop raising taxes and taking more money, we need to cut the frivolous spending to resolve the budget issue. Taking more money just exacerbates the problem. Yeah, some people make way more than what they are worth, but most weren’t put there just because, they were put there because they have worked hard to get to that position, and I find there is no reason to penalize them for it. It really boils down to common sense, of which does not come naturally to those in Washington. Speak to the people that actually do the work in this country, and listen to them, they provide the most valuable insight into how are economy works and create

    Please know that President Obama will do nothing at all to “create jobs” (misnonmer anyway-only private sector creates jobs) because the economy as it stands is just what he wants. I get so hacked off when i hear someone in the media say, “Obama doesn‘t understand how this or that affects the economy or he doesn’t have a perception of what is really going on.” Yes he does!!
