Posted on July 30, 2011 at 10:34pmI find it interesting that very few of the commentators or politicians mention the possibility that there may be a limited amount of investors willing to loan us more $ after this debacle plays out. The focus is on raising the debt limit-we should raise it only enough to be able to cover current obligations and reduce spending so it can be lowered-leaving the debt ceiling where it is is madness as well-need to reduce spending and the debt ceiling together-down to something reasonable and manageable. This crisis did not have to happen-but the one positive result is that more Americans are awake than ever-and we are watching Washington now. If you take the politicians (all parties) checkbook away and make them accountable-the whole game changes and they cannot bribe people to vote for them over and over. Here is a concept, Congress should be participate in Social Security as they force all of us to do-they are required to participate in programs resulting from their legislation. They currently get a pension if they show up for work in the Congress-let’s treat their pension just like the military-let them build it up year after year. They should not get their full pension after serving one term-this is ridiculous. Military members get 2.5 percent added to their retirement each year served, starting at zero when they enter the service. If any of us did the things that the politicians (not all but a lot of them) do, we would be locked up for a long time.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 10:19pmHeres a compromise…In the spirit of bipartisanship, they should meet in the middle in regard to when they revisit thedebt ceiling matter. Boehner wants to revisit in December 2011, Reid wants to do it again in January 2013. How about splitting the difference….say…July 2012. I’m sure alot of Americans would be more tuned in to what their “leaders” are doing.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 11:02pmBrilliant. Is left too after the election and some crisis somehow left obama and a Dem majority in Congress- it is over for America and there will be a civil war! Maybe another compromise would be STATE Secession and re-assembly should be put in the legislation (in a streamlined form) in lieu of a balanced budget amendment.; Let the States who want to be progressive/marxist have there way unopposed and within a decade they will be screaming for Statehood in the new United States – BEGGING! Or they can simply surrender!

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 9:31pmMark U,
There is a group that is dedicated not to raising the taxes and rightfully so. They do this because others and the president are willing to spend and spend and spend and have no plans to pay for the spending. You are correct, it is a self created issue. It is the spenders who have mislead America and now blame those that have grown up to pay their way and cut up the credit cards when it gets out of hand. Don’t threaten the American people with medicare payments, soldiers with their paychecks. You should be threatening the ones that sit with you everyday in the Senate. The senate’s jam it down your throat leadership is a total failure and yes you are a part of that.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 9:27pmOpinion: what I hear from democrat speakers: bla blaa bla need to spend more so need to raise dept ceiling; instead of presenting and voting on their plan which they seem to not have they having a nonbraining session to talk about what they may some day present, but no ones there to even listen! They speck in big flowery negative rhetoric and false name calling but said no details; speeches seem a big waste of time like a bad hollywood play. They do not seem to want or offer real long term change of balance budget.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 8:45pmA key issue is that Harry Reid has to be Mr. Ring Leader with only the abliity to be a clown. There are so many jobless people that could do a much better job. They are jobless because of him!

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 6:34pmThe People are seeing Reid and now knows what an ego-ahola he is. He is playing a shell game with Ameicans future, national security and thinks it is cute. He couldn’t run a hot dog cart. He needs to be in jail with Bernie. They would enjoy playing with each other and The People of America would be much better off and future much brighter. Thanks for making this debate live for The People. This will open the eyes of many!
Report Post »The People no longer have trust, respect, and support. America has only one way to get out of this….CUT, CAP and BALANCE.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 5:50pmPelosi, watching you speak has made me ill. You have dishonored the “full faith and credit” of the United States every day that you have been in office. Every time you voted to deprive Americans of their liberty, the fruits of their labor and distributed those fruits to those that did not earn them. You say that the democrats will not cut Medicare, Medicaid or social security. Ma’am you already have. You added millions of Americans to Medicare and then pullled revenue from that program to fund Obamacare. We have been dishonored every time that your party voted for spending OUR money on studying catfish dna, fake calamities and buying the votes of those that live on the backs of the American tax payer without ever having contributed to it and every other priority of the left wing. Do not presume that we on the right do not understand the debt ceiling, that when you say “revenue” you are talking about taking ours, that it is you and your party that promote poverty, racism and an America that is not a leader of the Free World but rather a member of the Third World.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 4:09pmWhen did the basic economic principles that are tried and true get thrown under the bus. This really is a very basic algebraic equation. Unfortunately, most Americans run a personal “debt ceiling” as well. They don‘t understand what’s wrong because it is in full effect at home. What does that even mean? Debt ceiling? It is ridiculous.
‘I may be irresponsible, but it‘s ok because I have a arbitrary limit to make it look like I’m awesome.’ Fiscal responsibility is not that hard unless one thinks it owed to them.
Unless you put in $, you should lose your vote until you can raise above your situation and put in $.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 3:30pmAs much as I adore Marco Rubio, all I‘m hearing from everyone’s mouths is “blah blah blah blah”. It’s all talk. The Senate isn’t serious about passing anything; it’s evident from their tabling all the bills coming out of the House. We need more Marco Rubios in the Senate!
Regardless of what happens, the U.S. is going to be downgraded no matter what. It’s not about the debt ceiling, it’s about spending…one the Democrats don’t understand (such as John Kerry’s “we gotta reach across the aisle” nonsense).
Report Post »oneshiner
Posted on July 30, 2011 at 7:51pmThe problem is the Democrats think reaching across the aisle means the Republicans cave in. I’ve been hearing them on TV and they (dems) act so un-ashamed of the idiot comments they are making.
Report Post »Just shake my head and wonder if they’re on something (drugs) kinda like Pelosi telling us we have to read the bill to see what’s in it……….with a perfectly straight face (botox) People, these democrats are the biggest bunch of liars and story tellers I’ve seen in forever, and they think it‘s true they’ve said this stuff so often. Good Lord, let’s get rid of these idiots in 2012.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 3:18pmSpending is out of control! I love it how libs are soooo concerned about our credit rating being dropped….don’t you think that being 15 trillion dollars in debt is enough to give you the lowest credit rating!??!?!?! if i was 5 million dollars in debt and wanted to add to that, my credit score would suck.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 2:41pmSomeone dropped a bomb on the bond market Thursday – a $1 billion Armageddon trade betting the United States will lose its AAA credit rating.
In one moment, an invisible trader placed a single trade that moved the most liquid debt market in the world.
The massive trade wasn’t placed in bonds themselves; it was placed in the futures market.
The trade was for block trades of 5,370 10-year Treasury futures executed at 124-03 and 3,100 Treasury bond futures executed at 125-01.
The value of the trade was about $850 million dollars. In simple terms, if that was a direct bond buy, no one would be talking about it.
However, with the use of futures, you have to have margin capacity behind the trade. That means with a single push of a button someone was willing to commit more than $1 billion of real capital to this trade with expectations of a 10-to-1 return ratio.
You only do this if you see an edge.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 5:14pmMoody’s Investors Service said late Friday that the United States should be able to keep its triple-A credit rating as long as Washington works out a deal that lets it continue to pay bondholders.
Sweet! Always nice to see someone bet the wrong way. you folks should be hoping it was Soros betting the US would lose it’s AAA credit rating.
