Watch Santorum‘s Appearance on ’The Tonight Show’ — and Leno Tell Him He‘s ’Wrong’ on Gay Marriage

On Tuesday night, former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum was a guest on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno. We’ve included the appearance (what was posted on NBC) below in two parts. You can watch Santorum describe his endorsement of Romney (and why he released it at 11 pm), as well as hear him teach Leno why Romneycare in Massachusetts isn’t beneficial for everyone and Leno tell Santorum he thinks Santorum is “wrong” about gay marriage:

      @ People_Are_Ignorant: Would ‘liberty loving Americans’ as you term us, also support plural marriage? How about marriage between a human and an animal? Or what about a marriage between a car owner and his beloved Ferrari? See where this is going? Once you open the gate, the flood will come and the glue that holds society together will ultimately fail. There’s a reason why for over five-thousand years marriage has been recognized as the lawful union being between a MAN and a WOMAN: it’s undeniably right and promotes the healthy success and growth of society. Anything else is wrong… and PERVERTED.

      Should marriage be a government function is the more fundamental question. I would rather marriage be taken up with individuals and the church to which they belong. I love how you state that an act between two consenting adults is indeed similar to a a man, or woman, trying to marry an animal, which i would state is not able to consent lol… Same goes with objects, but if you think about that harder you will see the sillyness in your philosophy. Now on to plural marriage, i have no problem with it as long as it doesnt trample on an individuals natural rights. Also recieving tax benefits or anything else provided by government. So when society dictates that everyone must eat and live off of the fruits of labor of others, you will be their champions. I want protection from society and you.

      What we should do is give marriage back to the church or individuals. Ask yourselves what are the benefits of marriage other than the union itself. Taxes and adoption are the easiest benefits to see, government should not give special treatment to married couples, this is another law that creates attacks on religion. Obviously the law is there due to religious morals, seperation of church and state does not seem to exist. Most christians wonder why they are under attack by the minorities, its obvious.

      @IGNORANT

      There are some structures in society that are important. The liberals have a long trail of broken families, failed economies and dead because of the unintended consequences of their liberalism.

      While I do not believe in forcing these things on free people, I certainly would not toss them out the window. The destruction of marriage, the lack of respect for life, the negative attitude about the importance of raising children have all contributed to broken families, neglected and amoral children and plummeting birth rates.

      Western society is dying and while it’s not the govts role to deal with it, it is also not the govts role to accelerate it.

      Obama has been a chameleon on gay marriage, being much more politically coy than his VP. His support for other gay initiatives speaks otherwise. Why else has his administration refused to defend the Defense of Marriage Act; I believe that Obama himself has stated he feels it’s unconstitutional? If your sexual choice cost the tax payers for a whole new list of court cost and tax rebates I say it is a governmental issue. I however we change the marriage process in which party’s agree to the split on marrital assets in the case of divorce there by ending the court cost it heaps on the taxpayers. And if the tax code is changed ending all the adult dependency kick backs costing the tax payers. Then I would see how gay marriage could be stopped by the government.

      My partner of eleven years are shining examples of family values. We were legally married by a catholic priest in Canada as witnessed by all our friends and family and we fully understand the blessings, struggles of that institution. We are committed to each other in every way that you and your spouse are. We go to church regularly and contribute to many in need and as healthcare executives we contribute greatly to society. Most importantly, we will never ask YOU or the government for help so stay out of my bedroom, study up on history, law and stop falling a sleep at church. Consider this…

      You are using the “sky is green” argument. Just because you want to be married to your “partner” (your word) doesn’t make it so. Just because I want to start calling the sky green doesn’t make it green. Marriage as defined by society has and always will be between man and woman, husband and wife. You can’t change the definition. You may want to but you can’t.

      I do find it interesting that even among gays and lesbians, they won’t use the term husband or wife. I don’t have a “partner” as you put it, I have a wife. Why is that? It’s because even you recognize Marriage is opposite sexes.

      Let me also say, I do NOT care what happens in your bedroom, or any room for that matter. Do whatever you want, you don’t have to answer to me. I have no problem with being able to have your “partner” at your bedside in a hospital, or if you want to share healthcare coverage; I just don’t care. I have my own problems.

      No one cares what goes on in the bedroom of two consenting adults.
      As long as it stays in the bedroom who the hell cares.
      It’s when it is in the public and is being imposed upon others against their choice that we care.
      We’re sick and tired of having the gay agenda jammed down our throats and being told by gays that we are wrong and they are right and should be accepted and celebrated for their perverted life.
      All of this “good” they supposedly do also ignores all of the wrong that they do.

      @DallasGuy,

      You won’t need the gun. You are in the process of committing spiritual suicide. You found a priest who does not obey the Catechism of the RCC. This is an abomination on many levels. You cannot justify this in any way shape or form by constitutional interpretation. I have the deepest respect for the priesthood that a Catholic could have, but this priest is being gravely disobedient on a number of different levels. Think about your eternity more carefully. If you die before making a valid confession, you will be lost forever.

    Marriage is meant to be the Physical Representation of a Spiritual Relationship. Christ as the Groom will return to receive His Bride and we are to make ourselves ready. Detractors will claim we are all to make ourselves ready, but only by receiving Christ as our Savior, can this be accomplished. A sinful lifestyle will not cut it. But if our relationship with God is not made right, then our relationship with the one we love cannot be made the fulness God had intended for us.

      Jesus has no beginning and no end. The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit existed before the world was created, whether you subscribe to time frames according to evolution or creation. Regarding their existence(The Trinity), think of them as the eternal now.

      Marriage cannot be redefined. Last time I checked, all of us have a biological mother and father. People can try to distort or pervert the meaning of true marriage, but it really makes no sense when one deeply considers it.

      That is fine that you believe that but it doesn’t make it true…and just because I don‘t believe that doesn’t make it false. However, “marriage” historically speaking has been around before the name Jesus even crossed the lips of human beings by many different cultures and religions.

    Gays can’t call their unions something besides “marriage” and get those unions to be treated legally the same as marriage. Why do they have to intrude on the sacrament of marriage and steal the word and what it means. The definition of marriage is the union between a man and a woman. If two people of the same sex want a legal union call it something else and make it equal under the law….don’t change the definition and push yourselves into it. Or take all legal rights away from married couples and start over with the laws. Start over with the tax code as well. But leave marriage and the definition of the word alone. What you gays do is fine as long as you are not taking over what belongs to us…the sacrament of marriage. Jay Leno‘s opinion doesn’t matter to me.
