Watch This 12-Yr-Old Skateboarder Land The Impossible Trick That Tony Hawk Can’t Do

Tony Hawk dreams about it. Sean White was the guy most experts believed would get it done. But the one trick that has been the goal of skateboarders and X-Games fans for decades, has finally been nailed by a kid named Tom Schaar. Tom is in the sixth grade, he stands almost five feet tall, and weighs about 80 pounds. But, he’s just stood the skateboarding world on its head. What exactly did he do?

Young Tom Schaar executed the elusive “1080.”

How did he do it? Tom’s dad, Nick was interviewed by ESPN and broke it down for all of us.

“He warmed up with 10 gay twists [a fakie to forward mute-grab 360], half a dozen 720s, and I think he threw a 900 in there. Then he did the 1080 on his fifth try. Then he went back and did it again the next day.”

Watch the trick that Schaar landed last week:

What’s next? Tom and his kind will now set their sights on the “1260.”

Update — Here’s a look at the special ramp that helped Tom nail the 1080:

DUDE! This is totally cool. I watched the x games in 99 when Tony did the 900! I skated for years because of him. This kid did a 1080! Ive only seen snowboarders and inline skaters do that.

That is amazing….however. As an x-skateboarder from the Tony Alva era I must say that we never had ramps to launch into a move like that. We did have half pipes but you couldn’t achieve the speed needed plus you have to be small and compact (like a 12 year old) to generate that kind of rotation and stay balaced to land such a move.. All that said it is still RAD! Way to go kid!

That is the art .. if you look closely, he is holding it with one hand. I have seen some skate boarders do some tricks that defy physics .. so it seems .. and it appears the board does actually stick to their feet. It’s just skill from practice ..

      Great work kid !!

Well, watch the clip! It’s quite obvious to see that he reaches down with his hand and grabs the board to hold it in place while rotating in the air.

Nice little piece of fluff news though. I’m getting sick and tired of the trumped up race war that the MSM has been pushing on us the last three weeks.

Tony Hawk had more kinetic energy on his attempts as he was on a mega ramp. Had also been skating for about 35 years at the time he landed it. More impressed with the kid.

      Fakie – switch stance
to forward – landing in natural stance
mute grab – front hand grabs board between feet
      360 – degrees of revolution

      boom.

I see exactly what you did there. You‘re trying to contradict my claim by attempting to sound smart and witty while hoping that no one catches the fact that you’re trying to compare a post comp vert 1020 to a mega vert 1080. they can’t compare, hence the reason why i posted this comment – no one cares, nor is it relevant whether or not Hawk’s 1020 was post comp or not. Stick with the topic at hand and try being less of a douche.

For those curious, this was done at “Camp Woodward” (the logo is on the vertical part of the ramp) it is a training ground that anyone can pay to goto and learn, practice, and get trained by professionals in the sport. It honestly is quite a feat that he did this, Tony Hawk did this years ago after about 30-40 minutes after the x-games competition was over, he kept going until he got it, they even skipped over programming for the next show because it was such a big deal.

And for all the people criticizing this post, get a life, your no better then the government that treats us like crap most of the time. This kid has made history in the sport, what have you done? Oh nothing right.

–warmed up with 10 gay twists [a fakie to forward mute-grab 360]–

Expect the LGBT crowd to be up in arms (or wherever they stick those) over the skater crowd calling something a gay twist. They’ll have to come up with another name for that.

How come we send Little Leaguers up to bat wearing helmets with cages, heart guards and soon shin pads have pee wee hockey players wearing hundreds of dollars of equipment when most can barely skate nor lift the puck off the ice? But a town will set up a skateboard park where they can break every bone in their bodies and land on their heads?

The town didn’t set it up. It’s called Woodward. Look it up. Most town sponsored skate parks require full pads (helmet, elbow, knee), and skaters have waaaaaay more balls than kids who play organized sports. I’ve done both, and staring down a 10-step stair case debating on weather or not you’re going to grind the railing or just try to make it is much more intimidating than lining up across from a 250 pound lineman. These kids get hurt, bleed, break bones, then get up and keep trying to land a trick. It’s much more difficult than traditional sports have ever been.

Sweet! I wonder if it will count since it is on a mega-ramp. Skateboarding prepared me for life. No matter how hard you fall or how scared you are, you get your butt up and do it until you do it right. You see guys spitting blood with broken ribs do the trick until they landed it. Some of the toughest SOB’s in the country.
