Watch This Robot Get Away ‘Senseless’ Graffiti

Senseless Drawing Bot — yes, that‘s this robot’s given name — is a graffiti machine, even if its creators So Kanno and Takahiro Yamaguchi wouldn’t want to call it that as evidenced by their Tumblr page name “This Is Not Graffiti.”
Watch its free-swinging pendulum arm create mesmerizing patterns of swirly spray paint:
The Senseless Drawing Bot was featured at an exhibition “UTOPIA no OSHIRASE” in Tokoyo. As IEEE Spectrum notes, “humans are not allowed to do this”; perhaps it’s only OK when a robot does it.
And the creators don’t want the Senseless Drawing Bot to be considered for graffiti, because they have a robot for that purpose: “a device for graffit.” Watch it do some serious wall damage that isn‘t nearly as soothing as Senseless Drawing Bot’s execution:

I think most people don’t believe the simplicity of my technique or that the images are attributable to chance. I have a site if anyone’s interested.
It’s better than this “Drunkards Walk” procedure that isn’t very novel or precise.

Posted on November 20, 2011 at 1:06amWhat is the point of this? It bounces around and sprays paint. Gang members do this all the time.

Posted on November 19, 2011 at 11:18amThis whole article is just weird. The headline is confusing and makes no sense…then you have the little blurb in the middle:
“humans are not allowed to do this”
Do what? Paint a wall inside of a privately owned building? I’m pretty sure that humans can do that all they want.

Posted on November 19, 2011 at 9:34amYes, but can the robot write a symphony?
Unfortunately what that robot is doing, is not art. It is infant scribbling.
I get the reference to the movie “I Robot”, but come on! I enjoy most of Wills Smiths movies too, but this just isn’t news worthy. Sorry!
