‘Way Over the Line’: Idaho Billboard Compares Barack Obama to Suspected Murderer James Holmes

Idaho Billboard Compares Barack Obama to Suspected Aurora, Colorado Movie Theater Killer James Holmes

An Idaho billboard sponsored by the Ralph Smeed Foundation is comparing President Obama to James Holmes, the man who allegedly killed at least twelve people and shot dozens more in Aurora, Colorado last week.

Describing Holmes, the billboard reads: “Kills 12 in movie theater with assault rifle…everyone freaks out,” and for Obama it reads: “kills thousands with his foreign policy…wins Nobel Peace Prize.”

CBS has more information:

“Repulsive,“ ”disgusting,“ and ”bypassing tasteless,” are just some opinions of the billboard left in the comments section of local news reports.

Maurice Clements, a spokesman for the Ralph Smeed Foundation – the ultra-libertarian group that owns the billboard boasting the slogan, “Making Statism Unpopular” – admitted to the Idaho Statesman that the provocative content is “a technique of trying to make a point, and maybe it was poorly done.”

Still, Clements stood by the billboard’s message, which was that Americans are “all outraged over that killing in Aurora, Colo., but we’re not outraged over the boys killed in Afghanistan.”

“We’re not saying that Obama is a lunatic,” Clements added.

“This billboard is offensive to all those lives lost and affected by the shooting,” Fabiola G. Monrroy wrote on the Facebook page of KBOI-TV, which first reported the story.

“Just pathetic, even if this is their expression of the 1st amendment.”

      Romney‘s foreign policy won’t be any different, the only difference is he won’t win a Peace Prize for it.

      I can’t believe how many of you look at this as a jab at Democrats. Last I checked, Republicans were all in on this thing we call perpetual war machine. Romney has no problems going full steam ahead towards more war. So how would many of you react in four years (if he wins) that the billboard features Romney instead of Obama?

      I have to admit that one of my first thoughts last friday when I was watching the reports of the theater shooter was that sure, what he did was evil, but that Obama is far more evil. When I saw this billboard, I was reminded of my earlier thoughts. It is not his foreign policy, however, that makes him evil………it is his entire world view.

      I think when you first read it, yes it is kind of shocking but not as shocking as the fact that our President
      sits in the White House twiddling his thumbs with the list in his hands, designating a drone to drop bombs on certain people on that list without any care as to who else might be in the vacinity.
      This is a man who sits there and smiles as millions of men and women are out of jobs and his wife is off again across the Atlantic watching the Olympics. She really doesn’t spend much time at home with him now does she other than the times she is laying on the couch writing letters to the supporters to send in their contributions, after all as she says “Barack is their husband too”. Now that’s disgusting and shocking.

    This billboard couldnt be more true. I do see the typical progressive lefty warmongering GOP sheep posting against this already. Our government sends our troops around the world to police and change leaders without declaring war and ignoring the Constitution. Our troops are not at fault, its men like Obama who talk about peace while dropping bombs and talk about citizens safety while taking their guns.

    Both sides, the Rs and Ds suck. Until we stop voting for the lesser of two evils we are going to continue going into bankruptcy, be at constant war, and we will keep losing freedoms.

      I don’t think you know what “lesser of two evils” means. You don’t just pick two evils and decide which one is the lesser. That‘s not what it’s all about.

      “Lesser of two evils” is when you only have two choices so you have to choose one of them. Nobody plans to vote for the “lesser of two evils”. In this election, you only have two choices. It doesn’t matter if you wish you had fifteen – you ONLY HAVE two.

      Ron Paul is not one of those two choices.

      The real issues our country faces are spending, debt, wars, and freedoms. That is it.       Our greatest security threat is our debt. Its not a tax issue its a spending issue. Romney doesnt cut spending desperately like he needs to. Romney has been pro gun laws as long as he is has been known. Romney supports the NDAA. He thinks is ok for a US president to be able to indefinitely detain or kill a US citizen.       0bama has signed 132 Executive Orders.

      0bama signed cap and trade and other “stimulus” bills to give government control. Romney has signed no such bills.

      0bama was raised by communists and mentored by communists, studied Sol Alinski, joined a group at Occidental which was sympathetic to the Soviet Union and vowed to fundamentally transform the United States of America. None of those are true concerning Romney.

      A list of all the differences could fill a large book.

      1. So Romney calling for a national health care mandate during a debate in 2007 and saying he was “glad to hear” Obama was using his plan should be ignored.

      2. All presidents sign executive orders. I am not a fan of them but I dont think that is really anything to compare Obama and Romney on.

      3. Romney has said in a few speeches he believes in “man made global warming”. He has talked about green jobs. As far as “stimulus” Romney said Tarp was the right thing to do and he has supported bailouts.

      4. Yes Obama is a communist. I have never disagreed with that. My problem comes from people like you supporting a candidate that has the same polices as the the communist in office.

      1. Spending – Romney has a budget out there. It doesnt cut current spending levels but does talk about cutting future increases to the tune of 500 billion a year. We are running deficits of 1.2 to 1.6 trillion. He has said he thinks he can balance the budget in 8 to 10 years. By then we are 25 trillion in debt. You think we can handle that debt load?

      2. Wars – Romney has said he wants to expand the military and make our military stronger by increasing spending. He has also said he would attack Syria and Iran. He is forgetting that our military has been at constant war for over 20 years now. Our borders are weak and the threat of terrorism has not gone down because of our overseas wars, if anything they have increased. Osama Bin Laden in 1998 said in a CBS interview he was declaring war on the United States. His reason? Our occupation of Saudi lands holy to the Muslims. You can ignore what he said, ignore the 911 commissions findings, or ignore the CIA’s assessment on the cause of 911 but I dont.

      Freedoms – Romney supports the gun control laws, the Patriot act, and the NDAA. That shows you his policy on our freedoms.

      If we continue overspending our interest rates will go up. Since they are being artificially held down when they do go up they are going to skyrocket. This cripples our economy even more. Since countries like Russia, Iran, China, India and others are starting to trade oil in their own currencies its only a matter of time before our printing of money causes the dollar to unpinned from oil world wide. This will cause a crash of the dollar like never seen before. This is the type of situation where literally a wheel barrel of cash buys one loaf of bread.

      We cannot continue the spending. All of you anti Paul people talk about how dangerous his foreign policy is. You are failing to understand we will have real danger if we have a dollar collapse. Who will protect Israel if we are on fire at home?

      Then throw in the fact the government is watching us with drones, and the provisions of the Patriot act. Now throw in the gun control they are trying to put in. Add the provisions of the NDAA and everything starts to make sense. The progressive elite know what is coming. I am many other libertarians know what is coming because we have learned from history.       Obviously, you know nothing of Idaho! I’ve lived here all my life. I can spell, I can read and I can speak well. I work in a professional career that supports me and my family. I also know when to open my mouth to speak knowledgeably on a subject and when to keep my mouth shut when I don’t.

      You, my friend, ought to visit Idaho to find out that we live in a beautiful, well-run state in the top 10 in economic development. At least you could “Google” Idaho and learn the facts before demeanig the citizens of this conservative state. Yes, we have some kooks who don’t live up to accepted Idaho standards, but then every state has folks like that.

    Technically, the billboard is not “comparing” Holmes and Obama, it’s “contrasting” society‘s very different reactions to the two men’s behavior. It’s in effect criticizing society. If you look at it from that perspective it doesn’t cross any lines.

      You are probably correct about not crossing the line. However, from my perspective, when you contrast the two, Barry makes James look like a major light weight when it comes to murder. James killed 12, as compared to Fast and Furious, which was nothing more than a gun control scheme where the number of people killed is somewhere over 400. I know those killed were only Mexicans and a U.S. border agent (s/off), Libs called it collateral damage. The media and the left treat this like it’s no big deal. Of course Barry didn’t pull the trigger (that was left up to the cartels to get Barry’s point across), but neither did Hitler during WWII. According to Bill Press, a lib comentator, the NRA is ‘Murder Incorporated.’ What does that make Barry? The bill board may be shocking to some, from my vantage point it doesn’t go far enough, but it’s a start.

      WATERLYLYS, I’d say that DEMOCRATS.ARE.EVIL is very correct above in saying that it is not a comparison but rather contrasting between the two. If anybody has cheapened the victims of the theater shooting are the politicians and paid media mouthpieces on the left who have screamed that it is time for new gun laws. All while it was existing gun laws in the area that kept these citizen victims unarmed and unable to protect themselves or others. I can see the contrast, better than I can see the need for these further attacks on our 2nd Amendment Rights.

      You would be the type to “out” people. My father grew up in Chile while the government used people’s neighbors to “out” them also. Most of those people who were outed ended up in prison or dead. So barber when you are the Soros of your neighborhood I hope you are found quickly and patriots and freedom fighters take care of rat.       MUTINY: Your comments are incomprehensible . I am NOT a Soros backer. I absolutely repudiate Obama’s anti-capitalism, anti-Americanism , and divisive tactics. Not quite sure how your being born in Chile fits in, or why I should not move to Mississippi for fear of being taken out as a “rat.” But I do think that anarchism is the same as the anarchy of the OWS movement. I do NOT favor lawlessness and I think anyone whose behavior and language open conservatives/ Republicans up to having the crafty Obama people be able to use martial law to end elections or to squelch their freedoms is a FOOL. I think that brains and strategy are the way to defeat these people who are well skilled in using our freedoms to destroy our freedoms. These Democrats are well versed in the law ( they know enough to skirt the law ) and in Alinsky tactics. Better be a Machiavelli to defeat them. Otherwise you will end up a prisoner because the Democrats will use the law to destroy you. TREAD CAREFULLY .

      I didnt say I was from Chile, my father is from there and watched as the government took dissenters and people wanting freedom and jailed or killed them. I referred to you as Soros because he also was “outing” his own people to their death. I brought up Mississippi as I feel that my state’s citizen will rebel from a tyrannical government trying to crush us. You wanting to “out” people wouldnt fit in well here.

      I too do not want lawlessness. To the contrary I am very much for the Constitution if you havent noticed. I also have never once said anything anti-capitalism or anti-Americanism.

      Look we both want the same thing. We both want Obama gone. The difference is you are willing to replace him with a guy that has the same polices as him. I am not.

      I am one of those “so-called Ron Paul people”, and I don’t appreciate that kind of talk one bit. FYI: I have no master, far-left or otherwise. There’s a big difference between Libertarianism and Anarchy — learn it.

      Is Romney my idea of an ideal candidate? Hell no! I didn’t vote for him in the primaries; I will vote for him come November. Romney has an incentive to bend our way. What incentive will the O-ster have? None! Even if Romney turns out to be another establishment “Democrat-Lite”, a RINO, it’s still better to drive the Ship of State at the iceberg at half-steam ahead than full-steam. That way, at least, we buy some more time. If he‘s so bad that he’ll pursue the O-ster’s same policies, then what difference does it make? Better to take a chance that he won’t than guarantee an Obama-II regime.There’s a time to make a third party protest vote, and this ain’t it.

      Get the O-ster out of there first, worry about the details later.

      You all need to look into a mirror and ask yourself, If Romney loses to Obama because he didn’t have the Ron Paul, Libertarian or Independent voters, is it really their fault or your fault for nominating Romney? How can you blame others for your own actions?

      You all had the opportunity to vote for Ron Paul. We all told you NONE of us would compromise our principles. You all knew you‘d compromise in a heart beat since you’re all “Anyone But Obama” voters not Romney supporters. So why not elect Ron Paul?

      It is just unfortunate that past elections where Ron Paul has run, several of them, reveals that unfortunately “Ron Paul Supporters + Libertarians + Independents + Disenfranchised Democrats” only get’s you about <1% of the vote, historically.
      Even combining EVERY VOTE PAUL HAS EVER GOTTEN EVERY TIME HE'S RAN FOR PRESIDENT, it's less than 500K votes!
      That's just a few 10's of millions short!

      I would personally love to vote for Ron Paul. I would also love to defeat Obama. Unfortunately for those of us residing in objective reality, those two desires are factually mutual exclusive.

      SK: I think videos of Obama’s anti Wall Street / anti capitalism rhetoric and the OWS actual background needs to be shown to the independents who might not be aware of what Mr. Marx is all about ! I remember the photo I have of Michele with her clenched fist raised in the air during the 2008 campaign. Shades of Angela Davis ! And then there is the Bill Ayers anti-capitalism connection . And when you read a comment from an Obama supporter that one can be an “ against capitalism but a loyal American ” one begins to think that the American voter needs some real Obama education !       It’s funny how the media had no trouble giving a daily count of our fallen soldiers (heartbreaking) under George W but I have NEVER seen any count under obama. No pictures of caskets being taken off of planes returning from the wars. We get kudos from the media because he (having no choice) killed (maybe) osama & drone strikes. Yes, ah, the media.
