‘We’ll Be F**king Back!’: Residents Protest Cursing Ban With Profanity-Laced Rally to Prove That ‘Gov’t Is a Bully’

Some detractors in Middleborough, Massachusetts, are protesting a new law that bans public profanity — and they’re taking an interesting avenue in doing so. Rather than calmly petitioning politicians or taking other, less flagrant approaches, several dozen residents came together on Monday to host a profanity-laden protest against the new ordinance. The bylaw, which passed overwhelmingly just two weeks ago, will allow $20 tickets to be handed out for public cursing.

While some of the protesters shouted expletives during the rally, others carried posters that advertised offensive language — the same language that is likely soon-to-be-banned. The spectacle, which also attracted individuals who support the law, took place on the lawn in front of the Middleborough Town Hall.

It was organized by Adam Kokesh, a libertarian television and radio host (you may remember his 2011 dance party at the Jefferson Memorial that ended in violent arrests).

(Related: MA Town Votes to Fine Residents $20 for…Cursing in Public (But Should It?)

“This isn’t just about free speech. What we’re doing here today is calling attention to the fundamental nature of government,” Kokesh proclaimed. “Government is a bully.”

Watch Kokesh speak about the ban, below:

Despite the chagrin, protesters couldn’t be ticketed for their antics, as the law won‘t go into effect until the Massachusetts’ attorney general decides whether it’s constitutional.

Swearing in public has been illegal in the town since 1968, although the previous “criminal” act was amended to be a more minor infraction in the most recent vote. The former law, due to its intensely-legal distinction, was rarely upheld.

Its funny – My 11 year old son asked me who decides what words are bad words – I didn’t have a good answer for him. I have seen the meaning of words change over time from good to bad. I told him right now Liberals decide which words or good or bad. We are on a dangerous course in this country and our constitution is at stake. So what if books were burned in ignorance by a select few as the contrast shows how ignorant liberals are that they can decide for you what to say and then fine you for it. It is the same ole’ story. When the “great-American-smoke-out” took place last year, all the cursing & non-cursing citizens who smoked took “the individual pledge” not to smoke & the city lost a tax revenue and as we all know, when there is an elimination of one tax revenue….the city has to replace it with another tax revenue….LOL
If a person has a desire to “break a habit” it does take determination and concentration. Something for the cussers to think about is to be creative with a “new-word” to replace a cuss word. I love watching old movies when someone would use creative-words to express outrage or disappointment.. Simple words to replace a cuss word would be “oh sugar”. Hmmm…probably would be considered cuss words in NYC..LOL

      Ooooops, jdog777…

      LIE:
      “Code Pink co-opted him.”
      TRUTH:
Co-opting means CHANGING beliefs. If a few pinkers happen to show up at a Kokesh Jefferson memorial shindig, that is NOT “being co-opted.”
      TACTIC USED:
Guilt-by-association is classic deception. Ron Paul faces this all the time. The smearer will often telegraph their dishonesty by preluding their propaganda with “I mostly agree with so-n-so, BUT…”

      LIE:
      “OWS is co-opted him”
      TRUTH:
Kokesh spent months INTERVIEWING OWSers and spreading the good message of Ron Paul. Kokesh ACTUALLY CONVERTED SOME OWSers, who have been brainwashed by the leftist universities.

      LIE:
      “the Tea Party co-opted him.”
      TRUTH:
Kokesh seemed to be active in the tea parties BEFORE they were co-opted by the LEFTIST gop. Furthermore, I can recall a Kokesh interview CALLING OUT THE CONTRADICTIONS of FAKE-TEA GOP Amy Kramer from the FAKE-TEA GOP Tea Party Express.

      LIE:
      “Ron Paulites co-opted him.”
      TRUTH:
Kokesh IS… a “Paulite” who organized a veteran march for him in DC (the story was BURIED by the MS(fake-conservative)M).

I’m glad fake-conservatives KNOW SO MUCH about Kokesh (so as to lie about him). Being FORCED to acknowledge and lie about liberty… is MUCH better than keeping it hidden by IGNORING IT (like they do Paul). It only means Kokesh’s voice is getting louder!

People need to learn that the Freedom of Speech clause is NOT all encompassing. The Supreme Courts have ruled that there are restrictions to it. Any student of history knows the founding fathers were talking about political and religious speech. Read the Federalist Papers. Child – porn is not protected speech, threats of violence is not protected speech, and the courts have said obsenity for the sole purpose of being obsene is not protected.

He’s sure to find some passage the Bible against foul language (probably in Deuteronomy, then when you call him on the other BS in Deuteronomy, he‘ll say that doesn’t apply because of the New Testament) and then equate it to homosexuals and hating the flag.

I don’t think anyone, other than a select few perverts, has ever tried to argue that “Child” porn is protected under the 1st amendment. Adult porn however, is protected. All Adult porn is, is two consenting adults, participating in sexual activities in front of a camera and selling the recorded images to other consenting adults. Whereas “Child” porn, is evidence of criminal activity, that is distributed to other criminal deviants.

Threats are protected speech (whether you think so or not). Threats, until acted upon, are nothing more than vocalized thoughts. Which means, I can tell you that, “I’m going to kick the f**cking s**t out or dumba**!” all day long. It doesn’t become a crime, until I take steps to follow through with my threat.

And, I don’t care how many times the courts have ruled that Obscenity, simply for the sake of being Obscene, is not protected speech, it is and always should be. Once we allow those who govern us to criminalize words (because they have decided that they are Obscene) we will lose our ability to protest that government because, every word we say (against them) will be deemed Obscene.

All one needs to do, to debunk your “because the courts have ruled” arguments, is point to our countries (and courts) history with Slavery. Our courts have ruled on many occasion, that humans owning other humans, was perfectly legal. But when it comes to freedom of speech, I think I’d rather err on the side of caution, especially in this day when we have President Progressive that doesn’t recognize individual liberty, and that social justice should be coerced. He expresses the belief in collective salvation and that only the “collective” has rights. The 1st Amendment gets my vote, and I’m with the protestors.

In S.C. you are arrested and jailed for profanity. Disorderly conduct. I was jailed for using the F word in front of a cop.

      Yes, USPATRIOT101

Constitutional law and liberty, and individual freedom IS THE ISSUE OF OUR TIME! And “Barack” is not throwing ANYTHING “down our throats” that Bush didn’t and Romney (who, if cheat-nominated, will reelect Barack) would not.

Remember there will be a bunch more like him. A battle hardened Marine with PTSD. I think his way of coping is going to be much better than what we can expect from all our brothers when they return unfortunately. Think about that. Besides so nice of the Blaze covering him on this, but not when he honored our fallen in Washington on Presidents’ Day. Kudos Blaze!

@justangry doesn‘t the lack of coverage speak more to the fact that it’s thankfully commonplace to respect and honor the fallen?
As an aside, until this story I only knew of him through his having a show on Russia Today, which gave me an obviously bad impression of him by virtue of the mere affiliation. Now after looking into who he is a little, my impression has moved up into “tolerable.” Maybe further investigation will boost that more.

Okay – so, the law is not a good idea, but, is being a vulgar pig in public really the best way to protest it?

Wow, what kind of people stand on the street to DEFEND filth. Maybe the fine/punishment should be sweeping the gutters.

You obviously are missing the whole point – this is a restriction of speech. Who decides what is vulgar or not? The government? Suppose I say something that only sounds vulgar? Can I be fined for that? What if I use ‘vulgar’ words to describe what I hear someone say, can I be fined for that too? I don’t curse and would be the first one to tell someone to watch their language around my kids, but this is no place for the government to be making laws about what ‘they’ think is vulgar.

OK. Let’s protect our freedom of speech but push that old use of soap to clean dirty mouths and push parenting classes for the clueless .
