We Dont Sit Around and Read Books: FreedomWorks CEO Matt Kibbe Says He Wants to Community Organize the Right

FreedomWorks President/CEO Matt Kibbe

The one thing the institutional left has always been better at than conservatives is community organizing, FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe said. He created FreedomWorks to change that.

“It’s always been a bias in the conservative movement amongst libertarians to really focus on the books and the ideas,” Kibbe told TheBlaze in a dimly lit hotel lobby in Arlington, Texas, just a stone’s throw from where Restoring Love will conclude at Cowboys Stadium Saturday night. “There are a lot of think tanks that wrote a lot of 40-page white papers that sat on shelves, while the left was beating us in the streets, they were reading Saul Alinsky, they were organizing, they were protesting.”

As the Tea Party movement goes global and crosses international and cultural boundaries, it is more important than ever to turn words into action, he said.

“It’s inspiring to know that you are part of a global movement,” Kibbe said. ”We don’t sit around and read books… But the point is that those ideas have to be given legs, they have to be put into action.”

He went on: “[The Tea Party] is not just a protest movement, it is not just a ‘get out the vote’ machine. We want to make it so every activist — if they want to be a blogger, if they want to do a Tuesday night book club, if they want to do community service — we have to figure out a way to create a portfolio of activities, all of which build the community.”

i’m glad there is a group such as freedomworks thats thinking, and hopefully will act along this line,i’ve commented for a long time for something like this.
it would be great to see freedomworks share in some of the billions of tax-payer dollars a year granted groups for getting the vote out,and community organizing by our government.
get those 40 page white papers, and present them,or the information in them to local civic groups, give them the parameters, of what can be done, where and when it can be done,it can be done in midtown, suburbs, rural communities,i think freedomworks will find plenty of receptive poeple.

I support RON PAUL and I hope he is able to redirect the CORRUPT GOP in Tampa and take the nomination. He is really our only hope. MITT ROMNEY is a PROGRESSIVE REPUBLICAN. An event that brings Americans together, celebrates what is great about this nation, is HUGE in it’s attendance, POWERFUL in it’s display of LOVE and yet is TOTALLY IGNORED by the lame stream media, speaks volumes. Brother Winston Smith, you sound like a honest to good disinfo agent, with a simple single goal–reelection of The Won.

I suspect many of the RP’ers on the net are in fact operatives of the far left. The tell is the constant bashing of Republicans/Romney as leftists, with a barely cursory mentioning of Obama (a true not-so-closet commie). The goal is to split the conservative vote so the reelection of Obama is guaranteed.

Yup, Twobyfour. Your baseless smearing (to avert from the content of my comment) is typical. And very awkward. Actuallt, the truth is that if LEFTIST Romney is cheat-nominated, then Obama is INSTANTLY REELECTED – using the same gop SCAM as in 08. You see, LEFTIST Romney is designed to win NOMINATION… NOT election. Same as McCain in 08.

      BASELESS REPEATED PROPAGANDA:
“I suspect many of the RP’ers on the net are in fact operatives of the far left.”
      TRUTH:
Again… a VERY awkward lie, as Romney IS A FLAMING, PROGRESSIVE LEFTIST. Wouldn’t voting for Romney… make you… an… OUTED “operative of the far left???”

      TRUTH:
      “constant bashing of Republicans/Romney”
      OBJECTIVE:
I sound alarms to alert Americans to what is NOT SEEN… not for what IS seen.

      LIE:
“The goal is to split the conservative vote so the reelection of Obama is guaranteed.”
      TRUTH:
This is THE EXACT GOAL OF THE GOP. If Romney is CHEAT-NOMINATED, the “vote” WILL INSTANTLY SPLINTER. Libertarians? GONE! Constitutionalists? GONE! REAL Tea Party? GONE! Youth? GONE! Blacks? GONE! Hispanics? GONE! Independents? GONE! Defecting Obama supporters? GONE! … Obama? INSTANTLY REELECTED! Just like 08 ALL OVER AGAIN! BY GOP DESIGN!

      Oh, brother!

      OK, some facts first.

      1. I lived under a commie regime for 30 years. Were trying to get out since I was 22, took several attempts and 8 years when I finally got out. I hate leftism and it’s practical incarnation, communism, with passion–I experienced it on my own skin.
I am a Canuck. so I can’t vote. I do vote in Canada and throughout the last decade, we conservatives ware gaining an upper hand and we’ll continue be active and deepen the trend. But, I have a daughter that is an American, therefore I have a skin in the USA game by proxy.

      2. DNC hired a bunch of operatives to influence rightsphere internet. Two modes: a) pounding the leftist talking points; b) using more insidious tactics, one of which is to pretend to be a RP’sr and pushing the view that Romney=Obama, thus another candidate is preferable (despite that any other candidate is able to gather enough votes, which brings the desired result–reelection of the POS).

      3. If Obama is reelected, the game is over. By the hook and crook, he will accomplish what his puppetmasters desire–destruction of USA as we know it. This is hardly debatable.

      Continued…

      4. Romney has a good chance to win (provided that other scenarios aren’t invoked, like martial law and suspension of elections). Romney, though quite left off of my liking, is no Obama. It is possible to have him as POTUS, and keep fire to his feet to adhere to more to he conservative side of politics. It is imperative that conservatives are elected to Congress in numbers that sway the makeup to conservative side.

      5. Either the Libertarians/Constitutionalists are able to discern trends and in that case they’d vote for Romney because there is no other real alternative, or they would get stuck in their myopic position, trying to “punish” the electorate. In the second case they’d bring their worst nightmare into reality. My hope is that they see the stratagem and would vote for Romney, because that would provide an opportunity to follow with further corrective steps down the road. Otherwise, there would be no later fixing possible. It is as simple as that. Of course, if someone roots for a civil war, this may be the way to go, however, the chances of being victorious in the war are less than certain, and even a victory may be a pyrrhic one.

With all due respect, what speaker, or speakers, do I need to hear to convince me that our government is completely out of control? Who do I need to hear speak that will convince me that there are only a mere handful of legislators that understand the spirit and intent of the Constitution of the US? And who is it that I must listen to that will convince me that our fiscal/budgetary/spending habits of the last four decades are about to crush the greatest nation ever constituted on the face of this planet?

You’ve attended one rally and now no one else knows anything; is that what I understand? Don‘t get me wrong I’m glad you‘re fired up and I hope you go back to wherever you’re from and attempt to make a difference with your new found zeal and information.

Seriously, though, many of us have been after this “independence” thing longer than, I bet, you’ve been alive. I don‘t need to hear someone tell me I’m getting screwed to know that I’ve been getting screwed for decades. Especially as in this case, many of them telling me I’m getting screwed, are the same ones that are screwing me!

I talk to dozens of people every day. No one will convince me that voting for a Progressive, regardless of their nominal party affiliation, is a smart thing. But, as you kids say, if it feels good then do it. Peace.

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
    From THE REPORTER
    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Matt, there are a few things you need to do:

    1. Lose the weird sideburns will you. They make you look seedy. Grow them longer as they wore them in the 70s, that’s fine but this knife-edge down to the lip deal has got to go.

    2. Stop, I say again, stop using the term “community organizing,” anyone with a brain in their head would realize this using this phrase replicates what communist’s do so well. So use better judgement will you !

    3. Don’t use words like “portfolio” and the like. You are talking like an investment adviser and everybody knows that very few of them are trustworthy.

    4. Dump Dick Armey who has been a part of the political system for years. He’s an “insider” and right now, people don’t want anything to do with insiders. Wise up on this will you?

Other than that, you are basically on the right track !!!

No offense intended, but it’s petty to judge a person by what they look like. Matt is right. We need to not just blog about our complaints, we need to make them known to our representatives, intimidate them, were his words. I have long said, on here, to not just write your complaint, but let your Congressman and Senator know. Things get done when politician is worried he won’t get re-elected.
We don’t need to stand around and chant “hey ho” but we do need to get out and create networks of people to organize to get things done, such as getting out the vote, going door to door, etc.

He’s not judging the speaker, but telling what many (if not most) regular folks will think when they see a guy with such wacky facial hair.

If that guy walked up to you and wanted to sell you insurance, you’d politely decline. It speaks to his state of mind that he feels the need for such a bizarre, attention-grabbing “look”.

No one’s saying he must shave it, but that more people will take him seriously if he does. That’s life.

I was there, and there were many of us in the audience contemplating how we could best corner him, and shave him “normal”…BTW, I saw several t-shirts with pics of him & his trademark sideburns…can’t remember what the caption was, however. If I see one at the tail=gate party, I’ll memorize the quip. Bye y’all, going to join in the doins in Dallas!

I did learn in the Q course that Organization is the key to an effective and successful movement.

The left is more successful because they copy the communist model.

I would also add that the left gets a LOT of help from the MSM.

Yes. Media Matters. Until one gets control of the mass media, it is difficult to counter the international Left. Think that is why Soros dumped so much money into media concerns.

Half the country pays no federal income tax and everyone of those simpletons agree, taxes should be raised, and often. I take the position that Stossel takes,to put it bluntly stupid people shouldn‘t be allowed vote and people who pay no federal income tax shouldn’t be allowed to vote on matters of taxation.

This link is related to taxation and the governments so called authority to tax our income.

@SLAYER……Great link…I agree with you as well, if you have no skin in the game so to speak, stand by and watch those that ‘do’ make the rules….civilizations were not created and advanced by the stupid, lazy and worthless.

SLAYER: Agree with Stossel BUT our international Far Left Democrats, are not only protecting the non-tax payers , they are increasing the rolls by refusing to insist upon voting ID but also “protecting” the so-called rights of non-citizens . Talk about acting NOT in the best interest of the American citizens . Nobama 2012. No Democrat : Ever again.

My faith is being restored. I have been saying for 5 years untill the conservatives, constitutionalist, Libertairians, and Tea party can come together and recognize they are all on the same team nothing will change. They all stand for freedom, although different amounts, thier belief system is basically the same. They must stop fighting amongst themselves and organize a team effort to create true change!

Libertarians and Tea party might come together once Lord Paul is out of the picture. The tea party doesn’t want to play follow the leader.
