‘We Must Repeal the Stand Your Ground Law’: Jesse Jackson Tips His Hand After Zimmerman Arrest

George Zimmerman hasn‘t even been in jail for a single day and hasn’t been found guilty of anything yet (in fact, his trial hasn’t even started), yet Jesse Jackson is already trying to use Zimmerman’s shooting of Florida teen Trayvon Martin to push a fondly cherished wish of left-of-center Floridians. That is, he’s trying to use the case as a pretext to repeal the “Stand Your Ground” law, which some observers have blamed for Martin‘s death at Zimmerman’s hands.

Laura Flanders of the Nation has video and the full quote in a short blog post:

George Zimmerman was behind bars Wednesday night, forty-five days and countless rallies after he went free after shooting unarmed high school junior Trayvon Martin in a Sanford, Florida, gated community. Zimmerman now faces the possibility of life in prison, but the Reverend Jesse Jackson, who has led some of those rallies, says that the mobilizing shouldn’t end.

“When Rosa Parks was arrested [for refusing to go to the back of the bus], if we had focused on the bus driver and not on the states’ rights law, we would have missed the point….  We must not just settle for Zimmerman, we must repeal the Stand Your Ground law.”

As luck would have it, Reverend Jackson and I were both at Ohio University as the news from Florida came in. Here’s what he had to say.

The internal logic of Jackson’s statement, comparing the case of the Montgomery Bus Boycott to the case of Trayvon Martin, might not be fully consistent with either. The bus boycott was enacted in order to protest a specifically racist policy, whereas the Stand Your Ground law applies with equal force to whites and blacks, and has no alleged racial motivation behind it. Moreover, Rosa Parks did not die as a result of the bus policy, nor were the bus company employees ever charged with a crime. Either way, it’s not clear that the shooting of Trayvon Martin is indicative in any way of a wider trend of racially motivated violence. In fact, it appears to be an isolated incident, which would make it just the opposite.

Is Reverend Jackson distracting from his own cause?

Man, I’d love to see a charismatic easily understandable Consv. black guy (and woman) to become very popular in the black community that would draw crowds and evoke enthusiasm for the truth for a change — about the Consv./Repub. values that would REALLY help them and make them “see the light”…….and that it‘s the Dems who are against them and don’t want them to be successful – to keep them on their plantation to use them for selfish political gain (like Sharpton and Jackson).

Comments made by Jackson, Sharpton, Farrakhan, and The White House would indicate a co-ordinated and planned effort to use this non-event as a tool to further harm American culture and increase the chaos.

This entire non-event is a massive fiction being used as circus sideshow.

Old Jesse’s aim is to disarm whites, because he fears whites who can protect themselves. He does not want an armed white population.

Every move the Panthers, Farrakhan, and the CBC make is designed to work towards disarming white citizens so they can’t fight back.

And the white disunity promoted by all of them, including the administration, is for the purpose of splitting the white population into various factions in order to more easily defeat them if conflict breaks out.

That is becoming more apparent with each passing month.

      Florida Stand Your Ground Law:
A person is presumed to have held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another when using defensive force that is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm to another if:
      (a) The person against whom the defensive force was used was in the process of unlawfully and forcefully entering, or had unlawfully and forcibly entered, a dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle, or if that person had removed or was attempting to remove another against that person’s will from the dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle

Okay so where in this stupid case does this seem to apply? I will say based on what has been seen so far Zimmerman is guilty of murder since Trayvon wasnt breaking into Zimmermans house or property but merely walking through his neighborhood. However I will not judge but let the courts hear all the evidence and decide. That is justice in our great Republic. But all these knuckleheads on both sides passing judgement based on blotchy info and mere gut feelings are turning this thing into a circus of extremism. Everyone just needs to shut up and let the courts do their job and whatever the outcome may be will be justice served. I am sure many other Americans were killed that day why should we focus just on this one? Oh yea cuz the MSM and nutjobs on both sides told you to

The only part of stand your ground law that applies is the part where you don’t have to flee from an area you have the right to be. His defense is straight self defense as he was on his back, getting pummeled in the face. There is eyewitness statements to that part. the only part that will make any difference in the case is what happened to get him in that position. Even if he started it, it would not be murder, but manslaughter, as in the end he was protecting himself. Doesn’t take long to lose consciousness when your face is being pounded from the mount. Jesse Jackson is a token errand ‘person’ for the plantation whom has been his master since he changed his pro-life stand to a pro-kill pre-born black babies stand, calling it choice and freedom. He sold his soul and his fellow black brethren for a token place of power around the Democratic table of Statism. Look up the word Uncle Tom in the dictionary and it will refer you to two examples; Rev Jesse Jackson and Rev Al Sharpton, also excellent examples of the type of black ministers Margaret Sanger was looking for and illustrating when she began her genocidal plan of birth control of the unwanted, misfits, immigrants and negos, her words not mine, a plan better known as the “***** project”.
Back to the point, the elitists of the plantation want to take the right to bear arms from the middle and working classes, for it is really important to them to disarm the lower classes, especially minorities, for that is who they fear the most, and they attempt to do this by saying they are protecting us… of course the elites have their own paid arm protection, protection not afforded to the poorer amoung of us.
To repeal Jesse is to expose him for what he is, one of Black America’s worst enemies, he would sell his son for ten minutes on CNN, oh, that’s right he did… Jesse Jr….a sorry excuse for a congressman who also is busy selling his soul for his own 15 minutes of fame…

Jesse .. it is way past time for you to leave the state of Florida …

      http://www.970wfla.com/cc-common/news/sections/newsarticle.html?feed=124415&article=10008906

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – More than 800 thousand Floridians have permits to carry a concealed weapon. That’s according to the Florida Department of Agriculture, which issues the licenses.

Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam says they’ve hired 46 full-time employees just to handle the workload, which is now in record territory.

He says the last two months have seen the highest numbers.

“In fact, 53,000 in one month is a record,” he said, admitting he didn’t know what was driving this growth spurt.

Dixie County has the most concealed carry permits per capita. Nearly 10 percent of the residents of that county have a concealed weapon permit, and that’s more than double the state average.

Commissioner Putnam says he is not troubled by these figures, nor by the growing number of Floridians who think they need to carry a gun to be safe.

He adds that permit-holders tend to be law-abiding because the state has their fingerprints on file.

Of the more than 800 thousand permits than have been issued so far, only 168 have been revoked because the license holder committed a crime.

as much as the democrats want this to be about the stand you ground law (their objective from the beginning)… its not… at the center of this will be self defense, not stand your ground… another shoot and miss for the democrats activists (who couldn’t get rid of if in the legislature, so now they are trying the courts… but its no on trial… all their nonsense drama for naught).

      @ sillyfreshness:

First of all you must realize there are a lot fruitcakes commenting on this forum. Complete fanatical idiots, no different from their Muslim nemesis.

Add to that the fact they have been completely brainwashed by the Zionist agenda that has had a stranglehold on this nation since the end of WW II when they all came over here.

God’s chosen people? Chosen by whom? The New York Times? These vocal windbags really should read their Bible that they wear so loudly on their sleeves.

For if I‘m not mistaken it was the Jews who DEMANDED Jesus’ execution despite the Gentile’s (Pilate) objections. As a result the Jews henceforth carried a collective curse as retribution.

I’m not saying that I personally believe this. I’m merely saying that is what it says in the Bible.

Now, @ sillyfreshness, you’re trying to reason with fanatics who play with snakes and drink strychnine. It just can’t be done.

You should say something more like “4GodandtheConstitution” and leave Israel out of it. When you say “the USA” you could mean you’ll defend the USA even if a dictator took over….like Obama. You said you‘ll defend Israel to the death and I’m sure they’d love to fight to every last drop of YOUR blood. I’ll let them defend themselves.

Stand your ground wasn’t involved here. The man claiming it’s defense was on his back being beaten, not standing. Stand Your Ground only says you don’t have to try to escape first. The man, so it speculatively seems at this point, had no chance at an escape route…he was on his back and not standing with his attacker on top of him driving his head into the pavement.

Stand Your Ground isn’t involved here. Actually, Jesse would be better to say that Trayvon was acting under the Stand Your Ground law. From what I’ve read about Zimmeran following the young man on a cold dark rainy night, it seemed Trayvon was the one standing his ground as he felt threatened…

We’ll see though. There will be a trial.

Yes, there will be a trial, and no matter what the verdict, Sanford is going to burn and/or some white people are going to die for no other reason than being white. Just ask the New Black Panthers.

And Eric Holder will continue to look away, instead choosing to sue Apple over the price of ebooks.

I‘m soooooo glad I don’t live in Seminole County anymore.

      a. he clearly wasn’t on his way home… it was south east and 20 seconds away four minutes ago, no, he was headed north towards zimmerman, tray is the aggressor (that unsupervised minor was in the wrong).

      b. zimmerman is an actual resident not a guest of a guest (tray’s daddy is not on the lease, his girlfriend is)… guests are supposed to be supervised, especally minors (and now you know why).

      c. when trayvon decided to mount zimmerman, for what ever reason, he was in the wrong

      d. now zimmerman had to make sure the punk ontop of him did not get his gun and kill him or anyone else… the only one legally in posession of a fire arm was zimmerman… if that out of control six foot three hooded unidentified punk subdued zimmerman do you seriously think he would not rob him of his wallet and gun??? (the last sentence was rhetorical seeing as you have already made up your minds about zimmerman… if you are black…. how does it feel to have it done to you?).

We have long known that Jackson is a self centered, arrogant and glory seeking radical who will push his race and hate filled agenda to the extreme at the least opportunity; this is nothing new other than more proof of the anger and hatered he shows to all people while claiming to not have any.

His own words and deeds stand in testimony to the truth when he proclaims otherwise.

      SNOWLEOPARD,
Oh Snow…,you are being too kind to Monsieur Jesse. Too kind.
In my readings I have discovered that the good Dr. King was not fond of Jesse. Had the good Doctor not been assassinated perhaps he would have given Jesse the boot and this country would not have had to be victimized by this race baiting monster!

The FAUX “REVEREND” Jesse Jackson worships himself and filthy lucre…,nothing else.

Poor Trayvon. He was killed by George Zimmerman but he was DEFILED by Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the Black Panthers, and all the rest of the race baiting opportunists! Tres degoutant!
Trayvon will never get JUSTICE. It’s too late! He’s dead.

George Zimmerman WILL get justice in a court of law.

Jackson, Sharpton, the Panthers…,their justice? It will be DIVINE. And they will get it.

Black on Black crime is a sticky situation with no one to exploit. It is important to remember these Sirs are in the business of defending racism. If racism ceased to exist they would become unemployed. IMO, they have the mindset of “When will racism end? Not on my watch.”

Well smarty smart we don’t know if Zimmerman employed the law correctly because we all were not there. If he was not attacked then he should not have shot. If he was attacked then he could use stand your ground as a defense. We will all see how the rule of law works here but for the time being just shut up and let the facts be presented.

Becko – You’re either being willfully ignorant or have no understanding of what allegedly occurred that evening. If George Zimmerman’s account is indeed factual, ‘Stand Your Ground’ hasn’t a damned thing to do with this case. I certainly hope you realize there’s much more in play here than meets the eye. As detestable as it is, much of the ‘outrage’ expressed over the past 2 or 3 weeks has been ‘manufactured’. The facts indicate that Trayvon Martin was the aggressor (i.e., physically attack George Zimmerman), and if the events unfolded per the narrative given to police (by Mr. Zimmerman & witnesses) on the evening of Feb. 26 (regardless of whether or not George was following or attempting to keep an eye on where Trayvon was going), George was justified in shooting Trayvon.
