We Never Occupied Mexico: Beck Schools Eva Longoria on Her Mexican History

You might have caught actress Eva Longoria‘s recent appearance on Bill Maher’s “Real Time” in which she claimed that Hispanics would not be moved to vote for Mitt Romney simply because he might tap Marco Rubio to be his vice president. The mere thought of it would be, as she put it, “insulting.” After all, she claims that Mexico was “occupied” by the United States.
(Related: Watch Beck’s Entire Obama Expose Free of Charge)
“And the idiots in the Bill Maher audience ate it up,” Beck said on his Tuesday evening broadcast before launching into one of the most concise rundowns of Mexican history to date. In fact, as a Mexican-American, it seems inconceivable Longoria didn’t know her own history as well as Beck does.
As it turns out, the Spaniards occupied Mexico for some 300 years and even the word Hispanic was one employed by the Romans when they occupied what now is Spain. So, the Spanish language that is spoken across Latin America is a result of Spanish occupation. Likewise, it was Spain that occupied Mexico for hundreds of years.
in 1846 the Mexican-American war began in the wake of the 1845 U.S. annexation of Texas. Mexico considered Texas part of its territory despite the Texas Revolution nearly a decade prior. Mexico never acknowledged Texas’ independence.
Ultimately, the Americans won the war with Mexico but on February 2 ,1848, the two countries signed the Treaty of Guadalupe which stated that U.S. troops would withdraw from Mexico, including Mexico City and take ownership of the Southwestern United States. What’s more, Beck pointed out that the U.S. agreed to buy the land from Mexico for $15 million, even though it was won squarely in victory and there was no obligation to do so. Not at any time did the United States occupy nor rule Mexico. The United States did not subject Mexicans to our form of government nor did it leave troops stationed in the country.
Beck continues with the real history of Latinos in America, below.

Posted on May 15, 2012 at 11:29pmGlenn, yeah, we did occupy Mexico a multiple times in various times between 1830s & 1920s.
There is plenty of room to argue whether some of these events were simply invasions, incursions, or occupations. The questions of whether, for example a land is invaded, occupied, annexed, or conquered varies on one’s perspective.
In any case the govt. of the USA either invaded, occupied, annexed, or conquered what is present several time in the mid 1850s thru early 1900’s. – nothing wrong w/ that …
And in the end we paid Mexico for the land we won in war (Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, as well as parts of Nevada & Colorado) – some call it buying the land we conquered, some call it compensation, some call it reparations – I call it compensation – kinda’ a nice thing which we didn’t need to do.

Posted on May 16, 2012 at 5:46pmIf in 1846-8 one Mexican army had crossed the Rio Grande and marched eastward into Tennesee, while another landed at the mouth of the Potomac and fought its way into Washington DC, to raise Mexico’s flag over the Capitol, and if at the same time a treaty had been “negotiated,” even with a $15 milion sweetener, depriving the US of the former Louisiana Purchase plus Florida–you would have a situation analogous to what the US inflicted on Mexico. Call it annexation, occupation, whatever you want: Americans would still feel aggrieved, even after 160 years.

No. There are still a lot of Mexicans with indigenous ancestors in Mexico. Believe it or not, the natives don’ just disappear when they are colonized. Mexican natives interbred with Spanish colonizers for centuries–I would be willing to bet that there is comparatively little Spanish blood in today’s Hispanic people.
And clearly you have no understanding at all of the history of race. Hispanics have often been considered a distinct race, as have various Mediterranean peoples at different times (including Jews). Throughout the nineteenth century when the U.S. was fighting with Mexico over the border, Mexicans were absolutely considered a different race, as were the Chicano peoples who inhabited the Southwest before Americans got there.

Posted on May 16, 2012 at 11:08amA lie can go half way around the world before truth can even tie its shoelaces.
The truth matters not to the Left! They are only interested in making others feel enraged or even good about themselves through lies and overinflated senses of self…the selfesteem movement of the 80s is what helped lead us here to this day! Don’t believe it? Self Esteem replaced Self control, accountability and responsibility. Its sister attribute called Authenticity was called upon to help hedge up this fight. One is not taught about the basic truths of human nature which made this country great, we are taught that only self interest and personal feelings matter the most. If your not being yourself, your not being authentic or real. Thus your contributing to the problems of the society because your not being honest about how you feel. So you must constantly display your feelings for all to see. In this way everyone can share your pain and misery and you don’t even have to try to make yourself have any control over how you feel because its simply alright with society that you cry out to everyone within ear shot. This has led to suicides and mass killings on an epic scale as self centeredness only leads to more of the same and misery that can never be consoled…thus everyone must feel what they feel even if that means commiting murder and mayhem. She speaks from a place of an overinflated sense of what she believes is her peoples plight. This is her lie to self and to us.

Posted on May 16, 2012 at 11:09amThe Term Hispanic made its way into the Modern Lexicon in the early 1970s and IMO makes little sense. Not everyone in South America speaks Spanish, Brazil for instance speak Portuguese so it seems the only factor that defines Hispanic is Geography which as I said makes no sense for someone to refer to themselves as a Hispanic American when we don’t call ourselves European Americans. But lets get real and say the truth: Hispanic is an effort to create a new group for those that practice Group Politics, as a new group it becomes a center of gravity for Money and Power.

Ummm….clearly it’s you who has “no understanding of the history of race,” PUBLIUS. FYI, the word race is a political and social word with no real scientific, genetic, biological, or taxonomic meaning:
>>> “While biologists sometimes use the concept of race to make distinctions among fuzzy sets of traits, others in the scientific community suggest that the idea of race is often used [5] in a naive[6] or simplistic way. Among humans, race has no taxonomic significance; all living humans belong to the same hominid subspecies, **** sapiens sapiens.”
>>> “When people define and put about a particular conception of race, they create a social reality through which social categorization is achieved.[12] In this sense, races are said to be social constructs.[13] These constructs develop within various legal, economic, and sociopolitical contexts, and may be the effect, rather than the cause, of major social situations.”
From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_(human_classification)
Modern ideas of “race” come from…wait for it…RACIST ideologies and are mistaken for “phenotypes” which is simply the visual differences between groups of living things.

The victor writes history, as we did after the Mexican American war. We wanted their land and used Texas as an excuse to invade. The US had the Mexican president (who was educated in the US) in their pocket, who betrayed his general Santa Ana by not sending reinforcements, no ammunition or food to the troops, left to get slaughtered. Then we say we “paid” for the whole western half of the US, HA! We MADE them sign it with our guns in their faces and called it a purchase to mask what it really was -theft. If there was nothing wrong with it and we just took the rightful spoils like beck says, then why didn’t we keep Iran? Or Japan? exactly. It would simply become part of Mexico because “it was won squarely in victory.” Once again Beck shows what a moron with an agenda can do with a few facts.
I‘m glad to see Beck’s imperial desires are laid bare in this little commentary. Apparently he approves of the United States taking what it wants from weaker countries. The Greater Serbian Empire aka Byzantine Empire, the former Yugoslavia now Serbia aka Raska aka the Greater Serbian Empire aka Byzantine, was a Christian country, until it was occupied by the Muslim Turks! Kosovo was a Province of Serbia until the Albanian KLA Muslim Mafia seized it, with the help of Clinton-EU-UN-NATO et al. Now Kosovo has been turning into a terrorist state, and so has the Islamist part of Bosnia! Iran aka Persia was a Christian nation as Babylon’s King Nebuchadnezzar was converted to Jesus Christ.

Posted on May 16, 2012 at 12:15amYou said: “Iran aka Persia was a Christian nation as Babylon’s King Nebuchadnezzar was converted to Jesus Christ.”
Actually, Persia was Zoroastrian not Christian. There is but a remnant of that religion left in Iran today. Most who refused to convert fled to India. It is the Indian religious texts that survive since the muslims destroyed all the Zoroastrian texts in Persia when they overran it.
There is no indication that Nebuchadnezzar was Christian; he was long dead before Jesus was born. The closest he comes to a Jewish worldview is after he goes mad for being such a pompous a$$. He acknowledged the fact the YHVH was God. However, nowhere in the Bible or extra Biblical sources does it say he gave up his own Mesopotamian gods for the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Mesopotamia is not to be confused w/Persia. Ethnically and linguistically they are quite different. Persian is Indo-European while ancient Assyro-Babylonian is another Semitic language as Hebrew, Aramaic, and Arabic are today. It is quite likely that Jesus would have understood the Aramaic of Nebuchadnezzar even though separated by several centuries. Hebrew in Jesus’s day was ceremonial rather than popular. In Roman Judea, Koine Greek was the lingua franca of the day.

Posted on May 15, 2012 at 10:21pmI am a fifth generation Texan and actually educated in history. In about the 12th century anno Domini (AD) the Aztecs invaded from what is now Arizona and conquered central México, where they established one of the most horrific and primitive reigns of blood-letting worship, female abuse, slave owning, sexual exploitation, and human skin-flaying ever observed in the history of humanity. So those whining about being invaded, first invaded others. The Spaniards, revolted to the core by their now widely demeaned religion, stopped all this and brought the country into the realm of civilized man. After México won her independence, she “ruled” Tejas for ONLY 15 YEARS AT MOST, and even during this time Mexicans shunned moving to Texas and refused to come. Texas revolted against a proven, genocidal maniac dictator who made up his own fake “marriage” laws to rape young women and who not only was dedicated to the ethnic genocidal cleansing of the Texans but also carried out similar acts against his own Native American citizens. After he legally granted the independence of Texas, México betrayed this and precipitated a war. At the conclusion, the U.S. withdrew from central México and gave substantial war reimbursement, an act almost unheard of in other countries at the time. Texans created Texas, and we will keep it.

Posted on May 16, 2012 at 1:37pmI would only add that the Americans who came to Texas renounced their US citizenship and legally had to register and become citizens of Mexico, taking an oath of citizenship in order to get the land that they were promised. Many of them were quite happy until Santa Anna began to change the laws and take away from the American born immigrants. When the Texans revolted though, it was people from American AND Mexico that revolted against Santa Anna and his armies. Santa Anna’s armies committed atrocities like “freeing” unarmed prisoners of war and then mowing them down in open fields. Then to have Mexico basically change it’s mind about Texas 10 years later. And now look at what is happening with illegal immigration. I guess it is in their nature to want what isn‘t theirs and to take it by force when their whining doesn’t work…

And then Beck says, “Not at any time did the United States occupy nor rule Mexico.”
So, wait, the treaty specifies that American’s “withdraw from Mexico including Mexico City” but Beck says, “Not at any time did the United States occupy… Mexico.”
If the US didn’t “occupy” Mexico, then why did the treaty specify that the US “withdraw from Mexico.”

It was not a total occupational forces as we participated in with German in Post WWI, and Post WWII. It is more like the short time we ‘occupied’ a small part of Russia after WWI…LOL. Report Post »RJJinGadsden
Posted on May 16, 2012 at 10:29amJZS, Did you bother to read any of the material in that link beyond the word “occypy?” The troops in the area were still fighting a guerilla army in several areas while trying to keep it from spilling over into the U.S. Again, did the U.S. take over the Mexican government and attempt to establish our form of government? Can’t help it if the author failed to use one word correctly.
Report Post »RJJinGadsden
Posted on May 16, 2012 at 10:42amJZS, Another thing, if you start looking up definitions of an occupying force. You will need to look beyond the current international laws, and instead look at the international laws that existed in 1848. And, yes there were international laws regarding hostile military occupations into neighboring nations. The laws started to come into effect with international treaties shortly after the Napoleonic wars in the 1700s. If you can prove that the U.S. Army enslaved the populace of Mexico, superseded the Mexican government and established a new form of government or an American style of government, in any way mistreated the Mexican populace other than fighting the guerilla armies then you might just have something there regarding the U.S. actually occupying Mexico.

People like Beck, who have no formal education at all, let alone in history, are in the position of believing they can read a book or two and suddenly become learned historians, much as Rush Limbaugh believes he an expert on climate change or the economy. Posted on May 16, 2012 at 1:44pmI think that it depends on what your definition of occupy is. People like La Raza and Eva are using the term to mean occupied and settled and permanently taken over. So in this reference, I think that Beck is right to say that we never occupied Mexico.
In terms of war, occupy would imply soldiers being in charge of governments (whether local or national) and controlling roads, supply chains, etc. In this sense, yes we did occupy Mexico.

I live on the Tex-Mex border and frequently find illegals wandering the neighborhood. I call PD and then feed them for their trip home. Let’s face it, if they survive the Texas brush they are simply going to become someone’s slave up north. It’s a no-win scenario for the typical illegal Mexican coming across for a “better life.”
With shootouts daily in Mexican border cities, newspapers refusing to report on the violence for fear of being killed, is it any wonder that Mexicans are fleeing to the north?
I am not for illegal immigration at all. Use the front door not the bathroom window to come to America. If we really need more poultry processors or farm workers, then grant them visas. But by all means and in all haste, SHUT THE BORDER before more of the cartel violence finds its way here.
