Weatherman Has a ‘Fit’ on Live TV When He Runs Out of Time for Forecast

Quick question: Has your boss ever made you do something that was not part of your normal job duties, only to find that your normal job suffers because of it? Well that’s exactly what happened to KTLA-TV (Los Angeles) weatherman Henry DiCarlo this week. The only difference between him and you? He got to tell the world he was unhappy.
As TV Spy notes, DiCarlo was sent out to do a local interview one morning this week. Innocent enough. However, when it came time for him to deliver the weather, he was apparently told that there was no time for that. That’s when he cut loose:
“When you send a weatherman out to do the weather, but you’re also sending him to do a story, you might want to give him a little extra time,” DiCarlo said testily upon finding out there wasn’t time for the forecast [...] . “But that’s just me.”
“Did Henry DiCarlo just have a fit on live TV?” Chris Schauble asked his co-anchor, Megan Henderson.
“I don’t think he’s happy,” Henderson replied. “We’ll work on that.”
You can watch it below, which includes DiCarlo seemingly walking off set, or rather off camera, in a huff:

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 9:46pmExactly right. Between his whining and the two morons that followed him, almost 45 seconds of air time was lost. A professional could have conveyed a lot of information, albeit probably worthless, in that amount of time. Completely unacceptable to subject his audience to his little foot stomping. He should be fired.

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 8:44amThe unprofessionalism of all the crew is what amazes me. The two anchors after his little tizzy fit then take up expensive air time to mock the guy was just as embarrassing. It was like watching teenagers. The only one with any class was the lady at the end of the clip. Fire the other three and put her in charge.

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 9:58amHere is a prime example of what TV news is becoming. All the national networks give onesided liberal/communist commentary. All the weather people on the same networks blame “Global Warming” for every abberation in the weather patterns. It is like a broken record.
To wit: Massive cold front spreads through the country. Freezing temperatures hit Florida all the way to the Keys. 3 to 4 inches of snow falls in Miami and the Bahamas. All this can be blamed on the effects Global Warming. BS! POPPYCOCK! HOGWASH! It’s called NATURE. All these WEATHER GUESSERS all come from the same liberal mold. – - – - Anybody ready for a 3 Stooges rerun? It sure as hell makes more sense.

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 8:37amWeathermen. Lowest on the totem pole. They are the Rodney Dangerfield of the news team, no respect. As someone else on here said, most of them are “weather readers” and should be GLAD for the jobs they have. In this economy, this baby should be glad he HAS a job. No one really needs a weatherman anymore. You can get weather reports from so many different locations, now.

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 10:34amMr. Weatherman I’m sure is well aware that when you are on a team running a live news program, time is everything and things have to get cut, dragged out, etc. and just have to deal with it. Image is a big part too, so I‘m sure he’s looking for a new job.

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 8:15amI flew aircraft for nearly 30 years and I have a respect for professional meteorologists. His public outburst is driven by the fact that TV stations are dumping profesional meteorologists in favor of weather readers. Check their on-line bios, many don’t even have weather “certificates”.
Worse, when the non-substantive “interview” was over, the director obviously didn’t think the weather portion was worth the air time. A flakey social piece won out over useful information. A real commentary on the decline of television in general.

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 8:32amFrom another pilot, I agree.
Too many stations are “purchasing” their weather forecasts from “syndicates.”
I think we lose experience and we lose the depth-of-knowledge that provides us with ACCURATE forecasts. MANY microclimates exist that forecast models cannot accurately predict.
We replaced the bathing suit blonde weather reporters with meteorologists decades ago, in favor of QUALITY reports. Now, we are racing for ratings and CHEAP overhead.
As my fellow Patriots know, there is a BIG difference in CHEAP and “frugal” OR “efficient.”
RESTORING LOVE
