Were Fox News Commentators Really ‘Caught’ Dissing Palin?

Well, the answer sort of depends on who you ask. Here’s the video in question, which shows Fox News commentators discussing TLC’s new series “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”:

According to the Huffington Post’s Sam Stein, the video of a “Fox panel mocking Palin’s new reality television show” was “leaked on Thursday.”

The two reporters who are caught on camera — Judith Miller and Liz Trotta — didn’t do much more than giggle in agreement with the New York Times and Washington Post television critics, both of whom slammed “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” as, basically, folksy political propaganda. …

An email to a Fox News spokesperson was not immediately returned.Instead, what’s more interesting is the fact that the video leaked in the first place. Off-air moments during the taping of a television show almost always produce more candid and newsworthy exchanges than those that take place on air. And increasingly, TV personalities, politicians and pundits have found themselves in compromising positions when they’ve been unaware, say, that their microphone is still on.

The HuffPo writer goes on to speculate that “someone within the Fox News structure” leaked the video in an attempt at “embarrassing Miller and Trotta or, more likely, underscoring that not everyone at the network is on the Palin bandwagon.”

Got that?  With no real evidence, HuffPo assumes that there’s been a sinister plan hatched at Fox HQ, all in an effort to stick it to Sarah Palin.

Similarly, Mediaite advises that “The Fox News Watch crew better learn to watch when the camera is rolling from now on, because they might soon feel the wrath of the Mama Grizzly.”

In actuality, the video had been posted to the Fox News site at least since Monday, not “leaked” on Thursday as HuffPo claims.

As TheOtherMcCain points out, the video making the rounds on the liberal blogosphere seems to show pundits secretly snickering to themselves about Palin’s TLC program.  But when the broadcast returned from commercial, the commentators continued to give their (sometimes brutally) honest opinions:

SCOTT: She has gotten a lot of heat for that new show. Some lefty groups, Ellis, are pushing Discovery Communications to pull the plug. How about at that for freedom of speech?
[ELLIS] HENICAN: Strategic misstep on the part of the lefty groups, as you mentioned. Let the woman talk. Believe me, the more she talks, the better off they are.
(LAUGHTER)
[JON] SCOTT: Interesting that some of these folks who don’t like her — I mean, she puts eyeballs in front of television sets, right?
MILLER: Yeah, and she got a network to pay her a million dollars per episode to do this. But I found the most interesting review to come from Karl Rove, who is not exactly a left wing lunatic, who said this is not going to advance her presidential prospects. This doesn’t make her look presidential. I’d listen to Karl.
TROTTA: And the numbers keep going down every time she makes appearance, her popularity numbers. You have to keep track of those. The more you see her, the less you like her. And overexposure is something the Democrats have to pray for.
SCOTT: So you think that –
TROTTA: Plus the fact that they can bank on the timidity of most men, who are so absolutely spooked by feminism that they’re afraid to criticize her.
HENICAN: Give her something on the Cartoon Network.

The “Fox News Watch” program posts all the videos of its commentators bantering back-and-forth during commercial breaks and reporting this one video as a “gotcha” is dishonest at best.  I personally viewed the commercial break video on Fox’s site Thursday evening.  The video in question was from the second commercial break of Fox News Watch, which aired Nov. 13.  Since the video has caused such a stir online, Fox seems to have since removed it from their site (original location here).

So, there wasn’t so much a secret plot to embarrass Sarah Palin as there was some chatter among free-thinking individuals who are entitled to their own opinions, invited to a fair & balanced network to express those opinions, and aired on a network that’s not afraid of differing points of view (like some other networks that shall remain nameless).

WOW! I used to have respect for both these ‘ladies’. No more. They sound like a couple of jealous, insecure middle school girls dissing on the nice pretty girl.It wasn‘t like they didn’t know this ‘discussion during the break’ wasn’t available to the public.
Everytime I hear someone saying this kind of mean crap about Palin, I think of something Dennis Miller said on O’Reilly. He said whenever he hears someone he knows talking hate about Sarah Palin he says to them “Really? You can reach way down inside yourself and find something to hate about this woman?”
    That says it all.
I live in Alaska so I understand you could say Sarah Palin’s a little hokey. Rough around the edges; like Alaska. But beautiful.I‘d befriend her in a heartbeat before I’d even talk to these two these snarky back snipers.
Notice how uncomfortably quiet the guys were? Even Ellis the liberal.
    Embarassing to all women.

I like Sarah as a VP more so than POTUS but the one thing about her is that she seems to be trustworthy and she is tough as nails. Sarah climbed that rock face and I know plenty of macho guys that would fail to climb that rock face.

They were so close to those bears that I bacame concerned about everyone’s safty. There aren’t many women that can be girly-girls and still be outdoors gals too. Sarah epitomizes what an American woman should be and the Beltway folks are all too soft to do what she is willing and unafraid to do. Real men aren’t intimidated by Sarah but the Beltway sissy boys might be. Everybody that bashes Sarah is scared of Sarah and that’s all there is to it.

    Rove is a girly-boy.

From my observation, Sarah Palin has more intestinal fortitude, bravery and gumption than this fraud con job called the President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama, the name he asked to be used when he was sworn in. As for these commentators, they should contribute and work as hard as Sarah Palin before they go off on their foolish rants.

There is a pattern. After SC primary boob gate controversy is started. After Alaska primary VF Hit piece hits the stand. Now after last Sunday Monday and Tuesday of TLC show and DWTS some gossip value news had to emerge. This was one try, but they hit the jack pot with Facebook controversy of Palin daughters. It is not about the hit piece or the controvesry and its content which will be denied and die out. The objective is to get the good news about Palin out of news cycle and get every one talking about the controversy. Remember the strategy discussed in the Journolist email (call some one Racist) or the recording of Alaska reporters discussing how to bring down Miller. The strategy is still in use and works every time as Conservative Media falls for it and is taken for a ride.

Jealousy shows up among many people. Sarah Palin has a huge fan-base. Her popularity is a thorn in many peoples side as are her looks. She is very attractive and nothing is worse than a womans jealousy of someone far mor attractive and interesting than they are. The guys just held back and let the gals run their mouths.I enjoyed her show, the scenery was beautiful and the Palin family is just a normal American family that most of us can relate to on some level. Not a major issue, we have plenty more to worry about than this.

Plus this is a commercial break anyway. Only the people with some sort of magical crazy television (0.000000000001% of the population) would actually see and hear that live, and not too many other people are “Fox News Watch” addicts who listen to what they say during breaks day in and day out. It’s a small series that will truly open your mind. It focuses on the work of one of the people Glenn Beck likes to talk about, and, I assure you, knows LOTS of his work, Edward Bernays. Bernays wrote one of the books Glenn likes to advise his audience to read. If you want to know what is REALLY going on with the string pullers, watch this(I dare you). Anyhow, here it is:

Oh and for the rest of you…..yes I might be having a bad hair day, and you might also…….but if your a half-way decent person, it’s fine, it’s okay…….

But if your getting paid by FOX or any other network for being snarky, and being so happy to unfairly attack one of the truly good people, who, like Sarah, is participating in our capitalest soceity (while it lasts), while producing a show, with beautiful scenery, as well as offering good clean, family programming, AND you ar also working steadily and saavily to help put our nation back, out of harms way, from the idiot-in-chief, then you and your tacky hair, and shrill, whiney, nasil-quality voice are fair game………you will never be more thatn you are now…..because we are the fastest growing group of consumers,,,,,and we will just not watch you…..and your ratings….well they along with your agent will just dissapear.

Meanwhile Sarah is laughing at you all the way to the bank……..and if we have to take a side here…well, it’s obvious we are on hers…..and her show WILL be watched by us and many others Sunday night (our tivo’s are already set), and your’s well….. that’s another matter.

No, I got it just fine. They wrote a fill piece about a non-story. Nowhere in the HuffPo piece does it suggest a grand conspiracy, as this article does. It(incorrectly) says one person may have leaked it and possible motives. HuffPo has already added an update admitting their error in posting a non-story anyhow. I won‘t argue that this website shouldn’t correct them, but to write something suggesting that HuffPo was working it up to be a behind-the-scenes cabal of Palin haters in Fox is equally lame.

I believe the left is showing who they really are afraid of in Palin. They know they cannot use certain tactics they have been using traditionally against her and it is scaring them that there are so many women that come out and like her. She may not get the Pres nomination but she has certainly shown that she is real and her voice carries well. DUSTYLUV- Fair and Balanced does not mean you have to find the stupidest ******* and give them a microphone… its because this some of the best the left has to offer. they look stupid because they are surrounded by common sense.

Palin is not a mystery . . . Let’s establish that pure and simple. She’s real. And that’s not the way it’s supposed to be. These so called “pundits,” intellectuals, elites, they’re not. They’re a fabrication of their intellects . . . they live inside their minds mostly and long for the capacity to step out into the world and feel it, to really feel it and taste it, to experience it with a boldness that is not ashamed of living; or is in fear of living.

It’s for this reason and this reason alone that intellectuals view Palin not as only a threat, but more as an intruder into their intellectual world . . . They don’t like it, and not at all as she has the capacity to do both, to be intellectual while also being among the living and experiencing life robustly; the finer qualities of a pragmatist and trend setter all rolled up in one.

Because of the length . . . of knowing the lack of brevity here irritates, I continued this brief conversation towards the bottom of this string in another post so as not to take up too much space . . . if you’re interested.

This takes the cake for me! I literally cannot stand that Judith Miller (mean spirited) and that Ellis has mean eyes and always says questionable things I don’t like, the other gal, Liz, I don‘t know her or didn’t pay attention, the other guy is???? But they have the nerve to say anything about Sarah. Didn’t her 1st new program have extremely high ratings? She is head and shoulders above these twits trying to add to the smears of a wonderful woman most of us love. Shame on you FOX for allowing this.

Not all the loony left are on the other networks and Huffy Post. Even FOX allows these fools to spew their propaganda and hatred. As for some of these so called elitists, their comments have very little significance to the real people of this nation!

What a bunch of elitist snobs who no doubt feel they are better than the “simpletons” like Palin. Notice how they had to throw Bush in there as a little dig on who must like Palin. America is waking up to these “Ruling Class” snots and it is so nice to see just who they are. FOOLS!
