West Hollywood Becomes First U.S. City to Ban…Fur

West Hollywood Bans FurWEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) — West Hollywood has approved an ordinance that bans the sale of fur clothing, becoming what is believed to be the first U.S. city to enact such a law.

Council deputy Michelle Rex says the precedent-setting ordinance received final approval early Tuesday. The ban would affect sales of clothing made from the skin or pelt of animals with hair, wool or fur.

Rex says the ordinance wouldn’t take effect until 2013.

The city has yet to decide what the penalties may be for violators. Officials also want to study the potential impact of a ban, which is opposed by some retailers.

West Hollywood has long been known for its animal-friendly laws. It bans declawing of cats, and pets are formally recognized as “companions” while their owners are “guardians.”

A tiny hamlet of 34,000 white men decides that the 1 clothing store can’t sell 1 product? I bet one of the councilmen might own a clothing store in the next town. You know how the greedy power hungry democratics are… even on the local level.

I’m just wondering if the locals will need to carry proof that the garment they are wearing was purchased legally.

“I swear, officer! This fur-lined wool jacket is pre-ban!”

I suspect Beverly hills won’t be enacting the ban,
but it goes to show that there is no end to the whining
      of the nanny state.

It’s a very small town in Los Angeles County, California. I don’t know how big your little state is, but we have over 35 million people who live here, and many of us are not of this sort of mentality. So keep your ignorant generalizing to yourself.

Up here in Washington, what happens in California is a preview of what’s coming here. We have been invaded by California transplants since the 1970s when a popular bumper sticker here in Kitsap County said, “Don’t Californicate Kitsap County!”. Well, it happened anyway. All through my working life almost everyone I worked with or met was from somewhere in California. They brought their lifestyles and politics with them, and now we are just as bad as they were then and are now. I have told more than one snotty “prunepicker” that if California was so good and so much better than Washington then why the hell don’t they go back!

California is a hell-hole. If there are so many of “you” there, why don’t you do something about it? Either you’re delusional, and there are a lot more of “them”, or you’re gutless, or when you say there are many of “you”, you really mean you’re part of the problem.

      Which is it?

I’ve met a few Conservatives from California, and they’re miserable. I think the fruitcakes far outnumber the common-sense crowd in the state. It’s a lost cause. The best the rest of us can do is re-empower the states and pull federal funding across the board. That way your nutbag policies don’t tank the rest of the country as you go sliding into the ocean.

      Best of luck.

JAYCEN- “California is a hell-hole. If there are so many of “you” there, why don’t you do something about it?” I am, and most here in the Southern part of the state are very active in state politics. If you are that interested in knowing how many please visit kfiam640.com

“Either you’re delusional, and there are a lot more of “them”” In this case there are a concentration of folks living in West Hollywood who are predominantely socialist, which does not reflect the many other cities here in Southern California which are conservative/libertarian. As for our state capitol the union interests coupled with the federal intervention of our issues (which happens in states which have large cities) makes our job as citizens much more difficult .

” , or you’re gutless,” HAHA! If you only knew me personally! I’m very active in local politics. Are you? Do you even know how much your city manager gets paid? Or mayor? What kinds of socialist municipal codes does your city contain? “or when you say there are many of “you”, you really mean you’re part of the problem.”

JAYCEN- “I’ve met a few Conservatives from California, and they’re miserable” I bet they would be miserable even if we had Ronnie was governor again. People who are miserable are the ones who you mentioned earlier who are gutless and expect the rest of us to do all the work.

.” I think the fruitcakes far outnumber the common-sense crowd in the state.” So your talking out your a**? Come over and visit the Southeastern part of the state (Sand Diego as well) and you will find many of us with common sence. Los Angeles, San Fran, and especially Sacramentos, does not reflect the rest of Caifornia’s citizenry. I know that this is difficult for someone in a tiny state to understand.
“It’s a lost cause.” No. Would you be saying that about our nation as a whole, or would you have the ****** to fight?
” The best the rest of us can do is re-empower the states and pull federal funding across the board.”
There, I agree with you. I want the federal government’s finger out of our states capitol.
” That way your nutbag policies don’t tank the rest of the country as you go sliding into the ocean.” I didn’t make the nutbag policies you moron. It’s up to your representatives in YOUR legislature to impliment laws like these. California does not force YOUR representatives to comply with federal pressures. What an ignorant comment on your part. “Sliding into the ocean”? Do you have any knowledge of plate tectonics? What a moron.

SCREWED- “Up here in Washington, what happens in California is a preview of what’s coming here.”
Blame your legislature, county reps, or city officials.

“We have been invaded by California transplants since the 1970s when a popular bumper sticker here in Kitsap County said, “Don’t Californicate Kitsap County!”. Well, it happened anyway.”
Because of your legislature, not because of people who cease to be Californian when they move out of the state.
“All through my working life almost everyone I worked with or met was from somewhere in California. They brought their lifestyles and politics with them ” Would you judge the rest of Washington by what happens in Seattle? I don’t. Because I am smart nough to know that each county, or city can have it’s own charter and municipal codes without a neighboring city or county (or state) influencing them.
I’ve been to Seattle, and I certainly hope that your town/city aren’t anywhaere near as progressive as that city is. I felt as if I were in Van, Can.

, and now we are just as bad as they were then and are now. I have told more than one snotty “prunepicker” that if California was so good and so much better than Washington then why the hell don’t they go back!” What do you paint with that brush? an aircraft carrier? I’ve noticed that when people move to another state (as I have in the past, & since returned), those comments usually come from being homesick or nostalgic. Just keep an eye on your legi

How about banning pretentious, ignorant, dillusional, self absorbed, self serving, hypocritical, lawless d@uche bags?

That, in itself should pretty much eliminate the need for the hundreds of stupid laws and regulations.
