Westboro Baptist Church Set to Clash With Atheists at ‘Woodstock for Non-Belief’

We already told you about Reason Rally, the upcoming event that atheists are heralding as a “Woodstock for non-belief.” The daylong celebration, which is promising to be the world’s largest gathering of atheists and secularists, is scheduled for March 24 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. While The Blaze has divulged the fact that evangelical groups plan to attend, it seems there’s another group — the Westboro Baptist Church — that is reportedly going to picket the massive conference praising “reason.”

Westboro has become infamous for its picketing at military and celebrity funerals and for its bizarre slogans (they recently released a parody video about Whitney Houston entitled, “God Will Always Hate You” and alleged that the singer is burning in hell). In what appeared to be an effort to incite Westboro’s rage, Jim Klawon, Deputy Vice President of Administration of the National Atheist Party — the political party of non-belief — sent a letter poking at the radical “church” members and inciting them to attend Reason Rally.
In a note addressed to Westboro’s founding member, 82-year-old Fred Phelps, Klawon urged the cult’s members (mostly individuals who are a part of Phelps’ family) to “come out and join the fun.” Here’s a screen shot of the letter:

It wasn’t long before the atheists received a response from Megan Phelps-Roper, Fred’s granddaughter. Via Twitter, she accepted the invitation and pledged to picket at the “parade of fools.”

Additionally, Phelps-Roper quoted Isaiah 1:18-20 in response to the Reason Rally, posting an image of the verse on her Twitter account: “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.”

Justin Vacula, a writer for the Scranton Atheism Examiner, spoke with the young woman about the group’s plans to picket:
Atheists, Megan Phelps-Roper explains, deny God and should read Romans 1:22-29 which talks of atheists who have professed themselves to be wise and became fools and are filled with unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness and maliciousness. She also quoted Psalm 14:1 which says, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no god…”
Some atheists, Megan Phelps-Roper notes, when thinking of the Bible and the Westboro Baptist Church who will be attending the Reason Rally, might “act like it’s a big joke,” but they should see this as a “very serious matter.” “There is a god, there will be a day of judgment, and there is nothing unreasonable about worshiping your creator,” Megan Phelps-Roper says.
Megan Phelps-Roper has a special message for Richard Dawkins. She explains,“He is a blasphemer of huge proportions. He promotes rebellion against God using the platform God gave him and will have a hot spot in Hell.”
With the inclusion of Westboro, it looks like Reason Rally will be that much more interesting.

Regardless, BECAUSE there is no credible evidence for a god, why do YOU call them “fools”? Bringing up Psalms 14:1 is the same as calling them “fools” yourself, else, the verse wouldn’t be given against them.
Again, I ask how people who are skeptical and rational, and prefer science over bronze age myths, . . . how are they “fools”? Be specific!

If you are familiar with Calvinism, then you know what the basic term “fool” means. If you are looking for someone to give you the answer that is already in your head, then you are trying to control both sides of the conversation. That displays, at the very least, control issues and, at the very most, narcissism and bigotry.
Now, I suppose by using your previous logic, in your eyes, I have just called you a narcissistic bigot who has an incessant need to control others. Not the case. I will, however, based on you own words and denial of facts, suggest that you may be delusional.

You said, “You cannot hate fictional characters.”
Untrue. Scrappy-Doo is a fictional character. That doesn’t stop people from hating him.
And just because militant atheists dismiss God as a fairy tale doesn‘t mean they can’t hate him. Peter Hitchens, brother of the late Christopher Hitchens, wrote a book titled “The Rage Against God”, about his journey to atheism and back. The definition of rage is intense anger, which in turn leads to hate. And militant atheists HATE God.
If you‘re saying people can’t hate God because he’s a “fictional character”, you’re better off trying to pass off the WBC as a splinter group of GLAAD.

Posted on March 14, 2012 at 9:49amBalpit, . . . those who “hate Scrappy-Doo” would be irrational in doing so, . . . same as those who hate an entity that doesn’t exist. Now, there may be some new “atheists” who still “hate god”, but you can’t be an actual atheist AND hate an actual god. That, too, would be irrational.
I have no idea if any god exists, therefore I can’t “hate them”. What I CAN say is that I am against the human ideology of their god depicted in many sections of the Old Testament, and some parts of the New Testament. These writings, of how those initial writers believed their god to be, run contrary to what I would see as a “truly benevolent and loving being”. Considering WHEN they were written, and how men lived at that time, it is understandable that they would assume a god to agree with them.

Like Muslims everywhere practicing their Islamic intolerance with its violent stupidity in the name of God, the Westboro Baptist Christian cabal are doing God’s work as part of a great public campaign proving yet again that religion poisons everything. No bigot gets away with toxic bigotry like religion-based bigots. If religion is involved and a person has the title “reverend”, there is nothing they can do that is so vile or nasty or hateful that it won’t be excused in the name of God. Moderately religious people are responsible for the extremists who read their religious texts and actually act on what is written therein. It is wonderful for atheists everywhere whenever pure evil dresses up in blood-splattered robes of the One True God and head out to hate with godliness. When these Christians slither into the public debate they come as talking snakes from some fairytale exposing evil. Religious people have a lot to be ashamed of whenever their Bible or Koran is quoted correctly to support very bad people doing bad things. If the atheists needed someone to prove their point that religion is bad, there is no one better to prove that point than religious people being biblically bad. For atheists, the best recruiters for the cause of rational thinking are religious people who take the words written in their religious texts serious and act on them.

Yes we should take a strong stand against sin labeled in the bible, however you can not pick and choose which scriptures you base your doctrine on. Also, we should compel sinners to come and repent (which includes LEAVING a sinful life behind) not slam them to the ground and bury their face in the dirt. Remember “such were some of you: be ye are washed..in the name of the Lord Jesus” 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. When did Jesus do anything like picket funerals of soldiers and scream at morning family members? When did Jesus treat sinners that way? Jesus sat among them, forgave them and expected them to change from their sinful ways. You must follow the new testament plan of salvation described starting in Acts 2:38 and live a holy, separated life from this world to enter Heaven. Repentance and infilling of the Holy Ghost is not a one time deal, as we must “die daily” to our flesh. 1 Corinthians 15:31. :)

Posted on March 13, 2012 at 8:37amPhelps is a good Christian. Phelps is saying in public what all good Christians are supposed to believe. Like Osama bin Laden, Phelps is sometimes taken to task because he has ‘hijacked the religion.’ The problem is no one can say where exactly Osama or Phelps has wandered off the true path of their faith. Christians like to brag about how nice their religion has been in the centuries it has been out of political power but everyone needs to remember the 600 years of horror show that was the cruel Christian Church ruling benighted Europe. Phelps is just another loony who actually believes the Biblical nonsense he was taught about the vengeful, spiteful, hate-filled, mass murdering God of the Old Testament. Reasonable religious people are the people who don’t actually believe the nonsense but want respect for pretending that they do. These are the people who won’t admit the problem with religious fundamentalists like Phelps is the fundamentals of the religion.

Posted on March 13, 2012 at 10:52amBeing Christian and claiming Christian are two different animals. Westboro nowhere meets the definition of Christian. You just like to use them because they are on the extreme side of Christianity. They are the left just like the Democrats version of Christians. I equate them to Muslim jihadist.
No respectable Christian would hold a sign that says God Hates **** or picket the funeral of military soldiers. The only people I see doing this are anarchist, Democrats, Liberals, Progressives, OWS – sound familiar.
Stalin and Mao may have had religious training, but that never made them religious followers. They were mass murders. Murderer’s generally do not have God in their lives or they have been deemed schizophrenic and would believe anything and kill in the name of anything.
I just love it when NON-CHRISTIANS tell CHRISTIANS what they are like and believe. It would be like me telling a brain surgeon how to operate when I only repair computers.
It is closed minded people like you, that is a detriment to society. You have a one track mind and can’t even imagine the possibility that God does exist.

HE drowned everything on earth save for one family and two of everything at one time. He also annihilated entire armies and cities. You read and know your BIBLE, I know this from your other posts. You are a ferverant follower of your religion of choice so you should not cast stones when you know the things written in the BIBLE are true. Posted on March 13, 2012 at 8:48amChristians everywhere should welcome Westboro Bapthist Church as these Christians quote the Christian Bible and hold signs expressing belief in basic fundamental Christian values. These people are the opposite of atheists because these certified Christians are perfect examples of keeping it holy by hating in God’s name. The fact that many Christians are ashamed to see their basic bigoted beliefs on public display should give pause and cause them begin to question the fundamentals of their faith until they can finally cast these Bronze Age myths into the dustbin of history.

Posted on March 13, 2012 at 9:24amCorrect. They don’t realize that, according to any real logic, their god sending people to a torturous hell for all eternity could ONLY mean that he HATES them with an extreme passion.
I know some will say, . . “no, he loves them but cannot abide with their sin”. Or “sin cannot abide in his presence”. Even if these were true, and it is demonstrable [literarily] that it isn’t, . . . that doesn’t address the torture chamber of burning fire where the non-believers will roast, writhing in agony for all eternity! Love would never do that! A TRUE love would be saddened, but let them go on their way unharmed. But it is clear that WBC has it right and most christians are offended BECAUSE they know it is the truth. God hates those who he calls “sinners” and gives a pass to those “yes men” who will grovel at his feet, extoling how great he is. All the while, turning a deaf ear to those “on the other side of the gulf who are in agony”.
Sounds like a great eternity for them. *sarcasm*
I HOPE the rationally minded put WBC in their place as the absurdly ridiculous people they are.

Posted on March 13, 2012 at 11:24amDEAVONREYE… God sends no one to hell. Those who are in hell are there of there own doing. Not accepting Jesus Christ’s payment due to non-belief, pride or just being defiant. So you want to go at it alone? Fine, you pay for it yourself. Fools turn down the gift of His Son. I would guess defiance would be the top reason of non-belief. After all why would you want to follow what the creator of all things says? He just rains on your parade all the time. What would God know? Children exhibit defiance at a very early age. Children left to their own devices and without foundation; you see the affects reflected in society today. IE: God tells us to not have sex before marriage but we do anyway and have disease, children in broken families and murders from abortions. Sad, a murder of convenience. Your almighty science tells us that the “fetus” is a human being. Talk about taking rights away. But hey if it does not cut into your “me” time then all is well. When it all could have been avoided if we would just listen and obey. So you turn away and plug your ears. All the while God is still there hoping we will listen and believe. Poor people have been duped into thinking we are simply meat sacks who came from monkeys. All you need are some slide shows, a few time lines, pictures of “missing links” and the promise of no consequences. Now that I think about it you have faith too. After all, God does deal a measure of faith to every man. Yours was just mispl

Posted on March 13, 2012 at 11:43amLet’s point out the flaws of Lemon here:
“God sends no one to hell. Those who are in hell are there of there own doing. Not accepting Jesus Christ’s payment due to non-belief, pride or just being defiant…turn down the gift of His Son.”
Wrong. Until you can demonstrate that YOUR god is real, and the hell you believe exists, then no one can make a TRUE decision,. . .especially when many other religions [like Islam] states their absolutes as well. Any TRUE god would not leave the decision up to human languages and “faith”, then disappear from discovery.
Regardless, . . . a “payment” of a human sacrifice is immoral and shows a god who holds a grudge unless something dies bloody. Do you think that is an advanced trait? O_o
“I would guess defiance would be the top reason of non-belief.”
Or, . . . finding actual evidence that shows error in scripture. “Rebellion” is a christian buzz word for trying to understand those who don’t believe their pet religion.
“All you need are some slide shows, a few time lines, pictures of “missing links” and the promise of no consequences. Now that I think about it you have faith too. After all, God does deal a measure of faith to every man.”
Go to talkorigins.org to see what actual evolution has stated and found. Apologetic “creationist sites” are bogus.
As for “God giving every person a measure of faith”, . . . if I cannot have faith in it, . . . then it is god’s fault.

Posted on March 13, 2012 at 8:07pmUnfortunately, militant atheists like Miyegombo Bayartsogt make a point of taking the Bible out of context.
There’s the case of the billboard which read, “Slaves Obey Your Masters: Colossians 3:22″. The verse was taken out of context, and they omitted the rest of it to make it look like the Bible condones slavery. They chose the NIV because it said “slaves”, as opposed to the KJV, which says “servants”.
The King James version of the “pro-slavery” verse (in context):
22: Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God;
23: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24: Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
Using their technique, I can make it look like Abraham Lincoln called his mother a whore.
“Four score and seven years ago, our forefathers…”
Four score: score, a slang term, meaning to succeed in having sex.
Forefathers: fore sounds like four, four fathers=any one of four men could be his father.
Therefore, Abraham Lincoln implied his mother was a whore: he says she scored four times with four fathers.
See where I can go if I take his speech out of context and cut the rest of what he said?
If you want to know what the Bible really says, take the time to actually read it instead of getting misinformation from religiophobes.

As you can see from the video, the American mainstream press will not help because they are benefitting from the fraud and corruption. People should be told about the EEOC. It has become a little more than a “bait and switch operation.” Employers use it to screen out workers. We would appreciate if you would help expose this fraud.
