Westboro Baptist Church to Picket Elizabeth Edwards Funeral

The Westboro Baptist Church, which usually protests military funerals with signs such as “God Hates America,“ will soon expand its hate message to the funeral of someone it calls a fallen ”witch”: Elizabeth Edwards.

The group announced on its website that it will picket Edwards’s funeral for an hour-and-a-half on Saturday.

“WBC will picket a respectful distance from the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards who split hell wide open on December 7, 2010,” the group says on its website. “This witch spent her life in defiance and disobedience to God, and blasphemed Him with her dying breath. She received multiple warnings and opportunties to repent. After God smacked her by killing her son, she thought she’d show Him, pumping herself full of hormones to have more kids. God gave her two more children, and she despised them like she did the first two, raising them to believe God is a liar.”

“Our message is for the living,” the group adds, “do not live like Elizabeth Edwards or you will die like her and spend eternity in Hell where the worm never dies and the fire is never quenched.”

Has anybody thought to pray for the Westboro Baptist people ? Pray that God might give them wisdom and a meriful nature ? They have so much energy – it would be nice if they put it to good use.

pray for them? judge them not? no, I have not considered that.

I have, however, considered beating the cr*p out of them, but that’s just a pleasant fantasy.

unfortunately, the WBC is always very careful to stand the requisite distance away and to obey all laws, so there’s nothing anybody has been able to do. it‘s sad that there are people like that who think that picketing innocent people’s funerals is a great thing to do, but the posters above who worried about the “slippery slope” of free speech are right. we MUST allow odious speech, or we get one step closer to banning other kinds of speech that are not popular. we can’t do that.

that’s why I always go back to the beating the cr*p out of them idea ;-)

You make me laugh. And you are right. It is a slippery slope that is very frustrating. I’m not sure if it was from this area or not but the WBC were protesting somewhere and when they returned to their vehicles, their tires were slashed. Seriously though, aren’t we suppose to pray for our enemy ? Not to say that they win a million dollars but that they turn from their wickedness. They are really being mislead and sooner or later it will begin to effect our freedom of speech. So why not try and nip it in the butt now. Can you imagine a prayer chain/circle around these people when they protest ? I can.

I am glad they are going to protest her funeral, Only because this will bring them into the focus of senators and congress, who have been ignoring the fact that these idiots have been protesting the funerals of fallen military. MAYBE now with this protest the law makers will want to do something about this group, or remove the police protection and let the citizens take care of the problem. Send the church a bill for protection services that are above and beyond regular needs. as they get over priced bills and have to pay them maybe they will slow down or stop.

There is already a pending Supreme Court decision on a case involving the WBC. The slippery slope is, if the Court rules that the WBC should not be able to protest soldiers’ funerals that decision could be used in the future to disallow protesting in general. (I think it boils down to 1st Amendment vs. 9th Amendment…I think.)

My thoughts exactly, I hate to see it happen to ANYONE, but maybe this one will shine a bright light in their dark little corner.
A couple of small communities have successfully avoided these “demonstrations” lately by forming a townspeople counter demonstration to block their access. The First Amendment works both ways. :) They post their picket schedule on their website if you’d like to see if they are coming to a town near you. If they come near my town, we will be ready.

You think these people are Christians? Judgement is the Lord’s, but looking at these people and what they believe, I’d say they have no idea what a Christian is. They pervert the bible and twist it to justify their hatred. The word “Christian” means “Christ-like;” in other words, we are to be imitators of Christ. There is nothing Christ-like in the views and actions of these people. A Christian, like myself, feels sorrow for Mrs. Edwards. I didn’t agree with her views, either, but children shouldn’t lose their mother, and she fought a long hard battle with cancer and lost it. It’s sad. I pray for the family, and hope they find people and comfort. That’s what a Christian does. I’m baptist, by the way. I don’t know how these people call themselves a baptist church, but they do not embody baptist, let alone Christian, values and principles.

      @ Jesus is lord

You apparently have not made Jesus your LORD if your post is serious and not tongue-in-cheek. This is exactly how NOT to preach. You never saw Jesus going to the “sick” and pushing a slogan-laden sign is someone’s face. Jesus told the woman caught in adultery to “Go and sin no more.“ But he told the Westboro Baptist Church ”He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone.”

These Westboro people are nothing more than Pharisees. Jesus would have called them white-washed sepulchres because they may have the outward appearance of life and beauty but inside they are full of death. Matthew 23:27. I suspect when they appearn in the end at the Great White Throne of Judgment instead of the Judgment Seat of Christ they will say “Lord, Lord, didn’t we protest in your name? Did we proclaim your hatred for homosexuals? Did we show how you love to hate people because they sin?“ Jesus will turn to them and say ”Depart from me, you cursed, wicked people. I never knew you.”

These wicked hypocrites turn their liberty of speech into a license to demonstrate just how evil, stupid and self-centered they are. If you don’t want to spend eternity in hell with these people, turn to Jesus as your LORD and Savior. He is God and is the only way for salvation. If eternal life isn’t enough incentive to surrender your life to Jesus, spending eternity in heaven away from these people as they are likely to populate hell should be enough incentive.

Trolltrainer “He has shown that he knows the Bible better than many Christians!”

I usually agree with you but this I can not. You can’t know the Bible and be an athiest. You can read the words in it but it takes an open heart to Jesus Christ himself to KNOW the Bible. So he may know what the Bible says more than many Christians but that is as far as it goes. Knowing the Bible, is completely different.

And MrButcher – if you did know the Bible more than many Christians, you‘d know the Bible doesn’t say that Christians should act the way westboro is acting. I take my Bible very seriously and have no intention on putting that pain and judgment on another person. It has nothing to do with taking the Bible seriously. It has to do with using the Bible and a few passages that any true Christian knows is NOT inteded the way they are using it.

If they ever decide to come on my side of the world, I, a Christian will be out counter protesting these scum. Because UNLIKE muslims who stand by and do nothing yet claim to care I WILL stand up and show the world that these people do NOT stand for Christians and they are not tolerated by the Christian community.

“I usually agree with you but this I can not. You can’t know the Bible and be an athiest. You can read the words in it but it takes an open heart to Jesus Christ himself to KNOW the Bible. So he may know what the Bible says more than many Christians but that is as far as it goes. Knowing the Bible, is completely different. ”

Agreed. That was what I was trying to say. He knows the words but he does not understand the meaning. His exegesis or interpretation is usually faulty.

These people are nothing more than Pharisees.

These people seem like far far-left secular Socialists masquerading as right-wing pseudo-Baptists….just to give all us Conservatives a bad reputation…..Someone should check that church they attend, because I bet you will find some Communist/NWO propaganda laying around…..This is just another “divide and conquer” plot that is designed to even further divide us all, at a time when the enemy is at the gates and they know the only way to win is to have us at each others throats. It’s getting harder and harder these days for honest, patriotic Americans to find anything they can trust and count on, and the church tends to be one of the bedrocks of trust for us….what better way to destroy us, than to introduce a poison pill into the very institution we tend to trust above all others.

What do they believe she was being punished for? I can’t believe that they are going to picket her funeral – that group just has real problems. I wish someone would stop them! http://maboulette.wordpress.com

@LEFTFIGHTER, it doesn’t reflect on you, it sits squarely on their shoulders. I hope they are denied a permit to gather and, if they do choose to do so, are given fines so high they will have to stay in jail for a very long time. These people are sub-human.

I am a Baptist too…(of the independent variety), and these folks are NUTS!

How can you have the love and grace of Christ, and yet be so hate filled?

I don’t need to agree with John Edwards politically, to pray for his family over the loss of their Mom.

Their justification for demonstrating at her funeral is ridiculous. They are just looking for publicity.

As if I were not already totally disgusted with this bunch… this takes the cake.

Unfortunately…I also believe in free speech. Drat!
