Westboro Protesters Have Tires Slashed During Weekend Face-Off

A Westboro Baptist protester is seen standing on an American flag during a weekend funeral picketing.
The infamous Westboro Baptist church from Topeka, KS, which protests military funerals with signs of “God hates America,” faced a bit of irony over the weekend after clashing with about 1,000 counter protesters in McAlester, Oklahoma.
“Shortly after finishing their protest at the funeral of Army Sgt. Jason James McCluskey of McAlester, a half-dozen protesters from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., headed to their minivan,” Tulsa World reports, “only to discover that its front and rear passenger-side tires had been slashed.”
Counter protesters were enraged when one of the Westboro picketers was seen standing on an American flag:
But as if the slashing wasn’t bad enough, to add insult to injury the group drove around unable to find anyone in town who would repair their vehicle, according to police.
“The minivan finally pulled over several blocks away in a shopping center parking lot, where AAA was called,” Tulsa World writes. “A flatbed service truck arrived and loaded up the minivan. Assistant Police Chief Darrell Miller said the minivan was taken to Wal-Mart for repairs.”
It was unclear if the repair shops in town weren’t open, refused to service the vehicle, or the group could not find any in the immediate area.
Tulsa World also reports that nearly 1,000 counter protesters showed up to thwart Westboro’s picketing. They reportedly chanted “USA, USA” while a few motorcyclists revved up their engines to muffle the protests.
Video of the event shows the crowd erupting in deafening cheers when the Westboro protesters pull away from the funeral in the disabled vehicle:
Counter protesters took a similar stand in Missouri last weekend. No tire slashings were reported then.

Posted on November 15, 2010 at 11:12amI cannot imagine the grieving parents having to listen to this while mourning their child. How can people be so heartless in the name of religion. I was raised a Baptist and later converted to Catholic, there is no way either of my religions taught people to act this way. Do you think Soros may have had something to do with this too? Just a thought. May God Bless.

Weston, MO is the right approach, even though this group of patriots efforted to have the same results; violent response to Westboro makes Westboro stronger—Do you think this activity of tire slashing will not strengthen their motives? BLOCK them out—yes! DO NOT let them win this war—-they do have a right to protest–as disgusting as this is. They are lowlifes-RISE ABOVE, DON’T RISE AGAINST WITH VIOLENCE—BE SMART!!!!! just sayin’

However…There comes a time when ones sanity break down, and the only thing left is to get their attention is a swift kick in the ass. Nothing does the job better and get their attention more than a swift kick in the ass.
And there’s few groups out there in this country that deserve it more than the Westboro Cult. They call themselves a “Church” but the bottom line is, they engage in hateful rhetoric. Calling them a “church”, would be like calling a pair of flip flops dress shoes.

Posted on November 15, 2010 at 11:03amThe problem with revving the motorcycles is that too disturbs the funeral/memorial service. Where I am we (The Patriot Guard Riders) just simply line up in front of the Westboro protesters with large flags and drown them out by reciting the Pledge of Alligiance or singing the National Anthem! This is less disruptive to the family and service and is effective as the protesters usually just leave after 5-10 minutes.

However… An encroachment such as what these sub-humans do at our troops’ funerals is beyond the pale. They’re crossing a very big line, and they need to understand that there are risks to doing so. And while the 1st Amendment may protect them from the government, it doesn’t protect them from an angry crowd, even if they hold up a copy of the Constitution.

Posted on November 15, 2010 at 11:06amIt is splitting hairs, yes, but I just meant that all of us would like to do something a lot more violent to them than slashing their tires, but that would only garner more attention for them. We need to do what the citizens of McAlister did and block them from the view of the family and overpower their voices with songs and support for the faily of the fallen. That speaks much louder than using viloence, which so far has not really been used against the Westboro clan, but I hope it never does. Something like slashing their tires could just be the beginning. Having said that, I wouldn’t want the tire slashers prosecuted for that either. I know, that could open up a whole new can of worms, but like I said, I have no sympathy for the Westboro idiots.

You answered your own question. If they were protesting at the funeral of a member of my family I would take matters into my own hands, literally, but I would do that knowing I would have to suffer the consequences. But to do something to them when your family is not involved will not garner much sympathy to you, and would strengthen their cause. Believe me, if any of the family members ever act out against these idiots at Westboro I will back them 100 percent. But they are the only ones who have that right, IMHO.

No matter how “deserving” or how “tempting” the idea of using a firearm against these fools is, don’t go there. It would only make their cause stronger. Right now, we hold the moral high ground of respect for country and those who serve. We need to keep that. Their hatred driven agenda that they believe is moral is reprehensible simply because of the tactics they use.
I think it was extremely foolish of them to stand on a U.S. flag, especially in front of so many veterans, but they probably did it to provoke the crowd into violence and everyone needs to be aware of that.
Sadly, I must admit that I really, really, really like the idea of the sugar in the gas tank that someone suggested, or even a potato in the exhaust pipe. My sin nature coming through loud and clear.
But let’s hold on to the high ground here and not give them what they want.

Violence is not the anwser no matter what. If you do then you become worse than them. Scorn, verbal “disagreement”, drowning out their speach with chants and turning your backs on them is the best way. I pray to God that this continues and becomes the norm with these people. They will give up because they cannot achive their goals. I do agree with making them pay out of their pockets. I have no problem with the tires being slashed or having to pay for repairs. I think communities and individuals should refuse to repair their van show them that we will not harm them nor assist them in their protests. We should tell them they are dispicable show them that we do care about fallen in action. If we can make them coming to these protests not worth their while then they will stop. I would like to see no videos of their protests and just the counter protests. Don’t give them the satisfation of knowing that they were on tv, internet, and the such. Lets unite against them and show the rest of America that we are united against these people. Let us as a nation scorn them and trun our back against them and drown out thier hate with our joy of country and appreciation of the fallen and all they gave for our freedom. Lets make these counter protests not counter protests but celebrations of our freedom here in the United States of America and block and drown out these people of hate.

I guess FREE SPEECH is a double edged sword-=-two way street-=-what comes around goes around……….I hope whereever the Wesboro pinheads go, the counter protesters go too…..To me, a revving Harley sounds ten times better than the disgusting crap copming out of the mouths of the Westboro pinheads.
Good luck all

Posted on November 15, 2010 at 10:10pmSnowleopard3200, have to agree altho I really got alot of satisfaction reading that article. They should not be issued a permit anytime, anywhere to demonstrate and tow their vehicle(s) away. Close impound until Monday morning and charge a hefty fine to get it out. Hopefully they bring their sleeping bags in case they can’t find anywhere to stay. They are the bain of our existence and should get back threefold what they are dishing out.

Posted on November 16, 2010 at 9:06amWhy are they allowed to use the Baptist name? Where is the Baptist convention on this? Do they condone this? It is time to do unto them. Protest outside their church during their services. Where do these nutz come from? Almost as brainwashed as another religion I know.

Posted on November 17, 2010 at 12:38amI do not think I will ever consider defacing or disrespecting a flag to be a form of free speech. It is an act, not speech. These folks do not seem to get that their acts of hatred, cowardly at a very difficult time for the grieving families, do their image far more harm than good. If their god rewards them for acts such as these, not speech still, they certainly do not worship MY God. Curious with all the things these folks seem to believe in if they actually agree with any other Baptist Church on this matter.
