‘We’ve Been a Little Bit Lazy’: Obama Sees a Different Kind of American Energy Crisis

President Obama has been detecting an American energy crisis lately—but this one isn‘t OPEC’s fault.
For the third time in as many months, Obama chided the United States for lack of effort in the competition for business. At the annual Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings in Honolulu Saturday, the president said the U.S. has been “lazy” about attracting new investments to its shores:
“But we’ve been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades. We’ve kind of taken for granted — well, people will want to come here and we aren’t out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America.”
In October, the president told donors in San Francisco that Americans “have lost our ambition, our imagination, and our willingness to do the things that built the Golden Gate Bridge and Hoover Dam and unleashed all the potential in this country.”
Obama noted in September that the U.S. had “gotten a little soft’’ when it comes to competing in international markets.
Following Obama’s “lazy” characterization at APEC, Jake Tapper of ABC News asked CEOs in attendance if they would use similar terminology to describe American business efforts internationally.
“I would not,” said Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt.

This over-regulation and over-reaching affects more than just business, however.
Take me, for example: I want to add an addition to my home. In that addition, I want to add a room so as to move my computer and my collections of motorcycle memorabilia and old telephones. I just received a letter yesterday from the county health department that I would have to re-design my septic system because “the addition includes a room which could ‘feasibily’ be utilized as a bedroom, which will increase the volume of sanitary sewage into the existing sewage system”…..
At one time, we had as many as 6 people living here (now 4) which utilized a system designed in 1925, when the home was built. I completely replaced that system this past June, and it was approved by the same inspector who sent this letter. This inspector has no right to arbitrarily determine what purpose the room will serve. Now, my window on pouring cement for a footing is closing.
But this article is about Americans being lazy, you say….not your addition. DUH! My problem is a microcosm of what the heck is wrong with our government, and economy.
Do you think that if I can be hassled for a home addition, that maybe the hurdles businesses face could be magnified exponentially?

We have a Whitehouse where they built a professional supersized organic garden to ensure the highest quality foods are devoured there, yet organic, raw, and free-range farmers are all being attacked or dismantled around the country. We’re slowly being forced to eat only pasteurized foods, which essentially kills half the nutrients and adds in chemicals and other compounds to unnaturally preserve it…Now this insult? A man who spends more time on short mini-vacations than any President, who cannot hold a single speech he wrote himself, or recite anything from memory or knowledge, who has everything handed to him and is taking and spending whatever he can on himself and his family…calling us lazy.
Perhaps the one positive from this will be the rationalization of the middle recess groups that are slow to come to any conclusion in politics that they should be angry. Perhaps we will see a turn-around from the groundswell up of outraged citizens that takes the Tea Party, and the ideas espoused by it to the next level. That said, with all the excess bureaucracy and restricting rules coming around on local levels, it’s becoming very difficult to get permits for anything, let alone getting a lone AFTER getting permission to start a business…and from what it seems in Decendent’s case, for your own house.

It kills many jobs just to comply with these pointless regs. Every factory has a place people can fall from if they are stupid. YOU CAN”T FIX STUPID or REGULATE it of of existence. I on the other hand do not get back anything or not more than $100. The other day I asked her if she realized I was subsidizing her – she looked puzzled . I told her the Gov’t is taking money from me and giving it to her so I am working several hours a week for her to get the money . Needless to say it was totally lost on her. It seriously upsets me.
