Whale of a Tale: Kayaker Gets Up Close and Personal With Huge Blue Whale

Whale of a Tale: Kayaker Gets Up Close and Personal With Huge Blue Whale

A kayaker released this incredible video recently of his up close encounter with an enormous Blue Whale:

The Los Angeles Times writes the video was taken by a Redondo Beach kayaker off the coast of Southern California on October 8:

“The YouTube poster, MrRJCtube, described the Oct. 8 experience as ‘heart pounding excitement,” but noted that he does not recommend or endorse trying to swim with whales.

‘The whales are large unpredictable animals and potentially dangerous,’ he wrote.”

Blue whales are the planet’s largest creatures. ABC News writes that their hearts alone are the size of a compact car.

I do not think I have a wall big enough to display it on it as a mount.

I turned the sound of this guy off, didn’t hear a word of it, and turned on the song from the World’s Most Boring Song. I managed to stay awake, and got an eyeful of Blue Whale. cool vid that way.

I would do it if I had the chance, worth the risk! I swam with a bunch of barracudas once…well, NOW I know what they are!

What a terrific experience this must have been. In addition, this guy had the right equipment for offshore kayaking. Ocean Kayak makes ride-ons, not ride-ins; they don’t fill with water if flipped. As far as his personal safety is concerned, catching a fresh-water pickeral, pike, or muskellunge is much more dangerous. They have teeth!

I dove with a Manta Ray in Bonaire. It is a rare experience to see nature like this up close. I am sure the camera did not do the experience justice. The Manta, by the way, was as soft as baby skin. So awesome. The diving with a whale is a bucket list item for me for sure.

I had a blue whale swim alongside my sailboat not more than 20′ away. This was in the same general area. They are HUGE!

The entering the water audio reminded me of the day after I eat Mexican. I know TMI. Other then that I enjoyed it.

That’s amazing. The grace those spectacular creatures that God created! What is wrong with some of you people? This guy just had an amazing adventure, he was blessed to do something so few people will ever have the privilege of doing. As for being an idiot for getting in the water…no way, he is brave soul, not intimidate by majesty of those amazing animals, but to able enjoy the experience to its fullest.

This loudmouth intrudes himself into what should be a silent, magical moment with one of nature’s most majestic creatures. Sign of the times, I guess. Raised his self-esteem, I guess. “It’s all about me,” I guess.

Kind of disgusting, IMO. He can’t enjoy the majesty of this marvelous creature without injecting himself with his loud mouth “hoo hoo!” Kind of like sports today: a stupid dance in the end zone or belly bumping after a good shot. It always gets back to, “Hey, look at me, mommy!!” rather than a play well executed by the team.

Next time, dude, shut up and let us enjoy the unique mental state that descends on observers of nature’s wonders.

I think it’s very cool. @notreally, seams ur the big mouth here. What’s wrong w/ being excited and/or proud of a personal triumph? Not everything should revolve around a team concept. What I accomplish in life I dont plan on sharing w/ you.

Stunning! What a day for him. Blue whales are gentle giants and he was in very little danger IMOP. God wants us to enjoy life and that’s what this guy and gal are doing. More power to them and thanks for the video.

That guy is crazy. First off, I would never go out in the ocean in a little kayak. He was several miles off the coast. Second, he is trying to swim with insanely huge creatures. This guy is nuts.
