What Deserves Apology & What Doesnt: Tex Rep. Rips Presidents Numerous and Frivolous ApologiesAfter 30-year old Georgetown law student and pro-abortion activist Sandra Fluke was mocked by conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh, President Obama felt it was necessary to give her a comforting phone call.

Now, considering the fact that similar (and oftentimes worse) things have been said by pundits and politicians on both sides of the aisle, several critics have wondered why the president chose to get involved in this particular “kerfuffle.”

President Obama explained that he felt it was necessary to console Miss Fluke because he was thinking of his two daughters, Sasha and Malia.

“One of the things I want them to do as they get older is engage in issues they care about, even ones I may not agree with them on,” the President said at a news conference last Tuesday. “I want them to be able to speak their mind in a civil and thoughtful way. And I don‘t want them attacked or called horrible names because they’re being good citizens.”

But by accepting this explanation, one is left wondering why the president didn’t console, say, conservative author Laura Ingraham when she was called a “slut” or Sarah Palin when she was called things far worse than anything uttered by Mr. Limbaugh.

Rips Presidents Numerous and Frivolous ApologiesSome have argued the president felt compelled to reach out to Miss Fluke because, unlike Palin or Ingraham, she is a private citizen and, therefore, off limits. But considering the fact that Miss Fluke isn’t just some bystander but, rather, a professional activist who willingly interjected herself into a national debate, that argument doesn’t really work.

Furthermore, Samuel Wurzelbacher, more commonly known as “Joe the Plumber,” was very much a private citizen during the 2008 presidential election and, if we remember correctly, the media didn’t consider him a “hands off” situation. And we certainly don’t remember then-Sen. Barack Obama giving him a call.

So why did the president get involved in the Limbaugh/Fluke controversy?

According to some critics, the real reason President Obama gave her a call is because, well, he operates on a double standard. At least, that’s what Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) implied when he took to the floor of the House on Thursday.

“It struck me that the president recently found time to apologize to someone who had been up here on the hill testifying,” Rep. Gohmert said, “but he never found time to apologize those who he told ‘you cannot practice your religious beliefs.’ Oh yeah, he tried to make an accommodation for a church and hospital but Catholics that had these closely held beliefs?”

Rep. Gohmert noted that, after offending Catholics by telling them that their religious convictions were not compatible with the desires of the Department of Health and Human Services, the White House has yet to extend any sort of conciliatory remark to Church leaders.

And this brought Rep. Gohmert to his main point: that the president has made “numerous frivolous and harmful apologies…on behalf of the United States, while disregarding or even refusing to acknowledge some of the most important current events.”

“I thought that maybe it would be helpful to track, exactly, what deserves apology and what doesn’t,” Rep. Gohmert said, producing a chart he had prepared for his remarks (via CSPAN):

According to the Texas Congressman, the president made “frivolous” apologies when he:

  • Went before countries where U.S. soldiers have fought and died and apologized for American “arrogance”
  • Apologized for the CIA’s use “enhanced” interrogation techniques — the kind that led to Bin Laden’s eventual capture and termination
  • Apologized for detaining terrorists at Guantanamo bay
  • Apologized to Afghani President Hamid Karzai for the accidental burning of Qurans

Furthermore, Rep. Gohmert believes that the president, by his own professed standards, neglected his duties when he failed to apologize to:

  • The family of murdered U.S. border patrol agent Brian Terry
  • The families of American soldiers killed during the Quaran riots in Afghanistan
  • The numerous conservative women who have been on the receiving end of “jokes” made by left-leaning “comedians” such as Bill Maher (a major contributor to the president’s campaign) and Louis C.K.

“I think it helps to chronicle exactly what deserves an apology from the White House these days, you know, just so we know where policies lie and where this president stands and with whom he stands,” Rep. Gohmert concluded.

    I don‘t ever remember a president getting involved in people’s person lives before. When he did the beer thing, I was shocked that he would take sides in a non-national issue but now nothing he does shocks me.

    This lame excuse we have for a President has simply got to go. This is not a matter of politics or party. The liberal left is too blasted stupid to either see or understand what this lying, deceiving, conniving no good s o b is doing to this country both internally and over seas.

    What is really disheartening, frustrating and an utter travesty, is that there are so many foolish, ignorant, blinded American people who would even consider voting for this Imposter-in-Chief , let alone selecting his name in the voting booth on election day.

    If enough people, who have been mesmerized, deluded or charmed by this Charlatan-in-Chief, should have an epiphany, and awake from their sleep of death, just maybe we will be able to garner enough votes to send this miscreant home on election day of this coming November. If not we will have to see what other remedies are available to remove him from this position which he has no right to occupy.

    And I more than sure that all of this congressional testimony wasnt just some ‘Fluke’ anyway because I would bet the farm that this ‘busy busy in college’ (whats next for her, the Navy?) young lady has had a conversation or two with Axlerod or Valerie Jarett (who thinks Obama is some kind of right-hand man sent here from God to save the planet from us) or someone like that because this wasnt just some ‘happening’ but a long thought-out plot hatched in accordance with the paid-for contraceptive bombshell. Just typical Obama adm. bamboozeling. What else could be expected from this bunch of Fabian Socialist who has taken their time and infiltrated the system from within. They did what hey said they were gonna do and that is to ‘drop the tie-dyed shirts and jeans and don business suits and get inside the thing unnoticed”.     This so-called president has turned me so much against our politics and our so-called ‘way of doing things’ it has made me sick and if we are going to allow a (cant say it on here,but wish I could) li run this country then we deserve what we get. He makes me sick and what I just scraped off of my shoe from feeding my dog outside I would eat before I would shake his hand. I despise this man and as long as he is in the office I cant even respect it anymore and wont either because as long as he is in it its no longer respectable. Well enuff of his sorry butt, aint worth the space on here but whats gonna happen when he gets reelected? Our contestants are ruining their chances for beating him because they wont come together and stop attacking each other instead of the adm. that they are going against. The dums. are playing them like a fiddle and they are dancing to the music! Santorum doesnt even realize that the dems. that are voting for him are Obama Dems. not “Regan Dems.” b’cause they know they can beat him much easier than Romney. Whats the matter w/that guy? Gingrich wins his one home state and he acts like its in the bag now for him, Ron Paul is in just because he is having fun and loves the attention that he has never gotten before in his 21 or so yrs. in congress and at this point owes some kind of explanation to whoevers money he is spending I would think. People are losing their minds! Hell I think even Palin has switched sides! Her and Santorum both! NUTZ!

    The reason he did it was simple: He is in a fight with religious groups he could easily lose and by promoting her she is doing his work for him by escalating her to a national platform. She moves the debate away from religion and onto women’s rights. All against the 1st Amendment, which politicians both left and right believes is a moving target.

    She is his current Useless Idiot.

    President Obama‘s policy on insurance coverage doesn’t say anyone, “cannot practice [their] religious beliefs.“ The policy has nothing to do with ”practicing your religious beliefs.” Clearly, the policy allow anyone to “practice their religious beliefs.” You don’t want prescription birth control, then don’t ask your doctor for prescription birth control. That prevents you not at all from practicing your religious beliefs. That’s false argument, and even more, a deceptive one.

    What is the justification for for a Catholic run hospital, the vast majority of whose employees are not Catholic, forcing their beliefs on others? If you work for a Catholic Church, you also cannot have access to birth control, even if for medical reason?

    He also refers to the beliefs of “Catholics” as if they were this homogeneous group with a single opinion of birth control. Sorry, but Catholic couples use birth control as much as anyone else. So I don‘t really know what Catholics he’s referring to.

      @JZS, Why does the cost of contraceptives need to be socialized? They are cheap. Please don’t kid yourself that this debate is about some hapless 30 year old law student, going to a 40K+ a year college that can’t afford $9/month for contraceptives. This fight was chosen by Obama and is all about government dominance over personal choice. You might agree with the government’s position on this issue, but will you always agree with it. Sooner or later it will be your ox that is gored and you won’t even be able to say you fought against it.

      Catholic run hospitals are funded quite nicely through Catholic charity. Most of us even non-catholic folks benefit nicely from these religious institutions. Seems to me we should be thanking them for what they are willing to mercifully share with the public. Instead this president and his supporters find one more non-governmental service to run out of town in order to replace with Obama care. You can grovel at his feet if you like. I want to send him packing.

      marine249, I don’t see your point. No one is forcing catholic women to take birth control (although, frankly most catholic women trying to avoid pregnancy already use birth control).

      So the First Amendment allows Mormons to have multiple wives and marry 12 year olds? No, sorry, the Supreme says you can’t violate the laws of the land no matter what your religion.
